i'm fairly new here.
i wanted to get opinions on something.. the congregation i was raised in, built a new hall in june, 1984, when i was 7 years old.
Here in South Dakota, USA a real estate listing can be cancelled any time before a sale and a buyer can change their mind about selling and say no to ANY offer, even an offer over asking price. Are you sure the real estate agent wasn't a Witness out to get a nice fat comission?

well today is my 7th aniversary with my boyfriend.. we met in a nightclub and are still together!
the moral being you can find succulent meat in a "meat market", as long as you, maybe, have no morals!.
so when i woke up this morning, sun streaming through the windows, daughter padding about quietly (children can never be quiet - or maybe our ears just go to high alert when kids are in the house) downstairs, i began scratching at myself madly until my boyfriend woke up.

who still find it strange years on to dive straight into your mail meal without 'giving thanks'?
i say main meal, because dad's prayers were always considerably lengthy before a main meal, and are an institution in every jw household.
even now after a few years i'm just about ready to tuck in when i find myself saying a simple thanks under my breath.

my sister is planning on getting married within the next few months.her jw husband committed adultery and left her when their son was 7 weeks old.after getting a scriptural divorce she began a friendship with a "worldly" man and now this friendship has grown to a soon-to-be marriage.
this man studied with the jw's for a while but could see right through them found too many of their teachings didn't make sense so he stopped studying.he's made his stand with my sister and told her she can still attend meetings if she wants to.he's also a good worker and seems to really love the kids.he's not perfect but no worse than many jw husbands.
anyways,the elders pulled my dad aside on tuesday night and told him he could(could????!@#*?
Being blunt (for a change); he could simply tell them to mind their own business; the elders do not have to know whether or not he went to the wedding and hes under no obligation (other than perceived) to tell them, hes not committing any sin, hes not compromising his precious beliefs.
The elders have too much time on their hands if they are concerning themselves as to whether or not someone attends their own relatives wedding...I dont personally think theres a win win situation to be gained from this in all honesty, its time he made a choice...unfortunately for both your father and your sister the WTS has a great amount of control over their members and he will be battling with his guilty conscience.
This power over people is extreme and this type of pressure was placed upon me at one time, I did tell the elders to mind their own business (although I was extremely polite about it) but in all honesty 99% of the time they back down especially if you do not rub it in their faces and mention it any further.
when i was df i decided to use the time wisely and read the insight books which is how i came across this

Agreed Blondie; its staggering that the womens movement only really came into effect relatively recently...speaking hypothetically it makes you wonder whether the WTS will revert to this form in their so called new system. Wouldnt surprise me in the slightest.

there are some conflicting views on this subject; when i was a teenage jw i was friends with someone of the opposite sex and we were the best of mates...nothing sexual, no attraction in that department at all but it was frowned upon by those in the congregation (as you can probably imagine).. my ex wife never believed a man and woman could be just platonic...hence no longer with her...but..now being somewhat older (and a teeny bit wiser .
what do you think though, do you think a man and woman can be just friends and more importantly has this view been changed since leaving the jw's?.

The main point is whether your view on this has changed since leaving the witnesess...they tend to view these sorts of things with a great deal of scepticism...usually borne from their own twisted sense of values but nonetheless...the question still remains?

most of us often talk about what we don't like in the jws and why we left but i think there are some smart persons/families/entire congs there who know how to play the system, they don't really give a toss about the wts ideology (or behaviour) but they stay there just to have a good social or family life in exchange for giving 5 or 7 hours to the org per week.
to them it is a social club not a religion.
have you seen or heard anything on this?
Just adding to my previous comments.....its not just hypocritical its self serving...some thrive on the politics its almost like a vocation to them with the meetings like networking opportunities to prime the pump for their next step up the social ladder...it makes me sick especially when they dont live their lives in accordance with what they purport to believe.
