  I'm thinking of going back

  over the weekend my cousin came to visit from mi, and her husband (elder) started to do his shepperding thing with me (have not attended meetings for over 1 year), and made a compeling argument about how the holy spirit is given by god only if you attend meeting and go to field service...etc, etc.

  and the whole "faith and works" issue.

  it was a different angle that i have never heard before, about me being a "instrument or tool" of god...blah, blah, blah... anyhow, it got me thinking about going back...especially when things are not going to well for me right now... (he said its because i left jehovah).. how can i convince myself that this is not true?

  DH... whilst your remark is pointed and will probably cause some offense i dont think i couldve said it any better myself; well said.

  With respect to the poster on this thread; the fact that things havent gone right for you or couldve gone better is not because you have left jehovah it is probably because you (like the rest of us) have made wrong decisions...this is how we learn so take dont be disheartened...dust yourself down and get on with life.

  The comments from the elder suggesting it is because you left the organisation strongly implies that we have no control over our life and discounts the whole freedom of choice issue; it is one of those manipulation techniques used to enable the WTBTS to obtain control over the lives of those who have given up taking control of their own. Jehovah does not control your life....you do...by all means give praise to him for the blessings you do have but give him greater praise by being true to yourself.

  Words of advice....take control, pray about your choices if you believe in a creator, consider them against the background of the events and make a decision either way.

  Do You Look Down On People Because They Don't Agree With You??

  when i read some comments here, it seems that some can be so full of themselves that if they are disagreed with, they will mock, castigate, or be elitist with their condescending opinions.

  in answer to your question... life is too short to be condescending or looking down on people...why bother...we all have our opinions its what contributes to making us different and ultimately human. Wouldnt life be boring if we all agreed!

  Has anyone got anything positive from being a JW?

  i hear and read alot about peoples experiences and some are pretty horrendous....does anyone actually feel they have benefited from being a jw at least in one way or another...me personally i feel i benefited from the ministry school as public speaking is part of my job and has definately improved career prospects?.

  Hotel Tipping at Assembly Time

  does anyone remember any stories related to hotels not wanting to do business with the witnesses anymore because the witnesses were leaving literature in their rooms rather than tipping maid service?.

  For goodness sake...does the borg need to control or suggest what its members do in every circumstance...we range from the extremities of oral sex between consenting (married adults) and tipping in a hotel????!!!!!

  If you are happy with the service you receive then you tip dont you? if not then you dont? Simple...why waste a tree to print guidance on it!!!!???

  ok ... to me it's not totally related to jw life actually, i'm here because i'm used now to chat with people (you know like you go into a cafe and share wathever you want with whoever as this board is very rich and full for immediat interaction), support them, get some support ... i just like that ... also of course it's very interesting at the same time to follow some news and get information that i might spit back to my familly in time to wake them up .... what about you ?

  Im on here for all the above reasons i suppose; its difficult to tell people who havent experienced life as a JW what you are feeling and this board provides a useful (no pun intended) sounding board for ideas and thoughts about our past life.

  I also like to have a break out time in the office where i can just think and read...this board is useful for that too.

  Born Again Christian, Jehovahs Witness, Mormon....it spells the same to me...its all organised religion...and that spells danger in my eyes...why allow another human to tell you how to worship...what to worship...when to worship? What gives another human the right to say he or she is closer to god without physical proof...that would be blasphemy dont you think?

  Lonelysheep i can certainly concur with you on that...as a witness growing up i was prevented through force of conscience to pursue my career; then again...its the only way to keep people surpressed... take away their ability to reason, question, and critically assess and that is what education does....as the old professor at university says....accept nothing until its proven....question everything! Wise words i believe.

  I was Molested by my CO grandfather

  i was molested by my grandfather from the age of 3 to 7. he was also molesting his daughter (my aunt) and maybe others.

  it was covered over and my entire family was actually shunned when we went to the elders when i was 18. i did not tell anyone about it until then because my grandfather had me believing our relationship was special and it was our little secret.. when confronted, he of course denied it.

  my mother even spoke up of a time when he had tried to molest her when she was 8 months pregnant with one of my brothers.

  Sorry to hear of your pain, you are not on your own here....all of us have had or experienced some personal truamas which have disturbed our belief system at the time; the most important thing i can advise you to do is rely upon your true friends and live your life now as full as you possibly can; its the only way to bury the demons...be positive.

  Ok i was brought up in the organisation; but didnt know abou this oral sex thingy....wheres the scriptual basis for that rule then....it would be typical though wouldnt it....if your a JW you cannot have any fun...
