Yeah me and my partner laugh and joke about it a fair bit and she will often suggest i put my eyes back in (in jest) but I wouldnt dream of disrespecting her by following the look with the words 'phhhoooar' or 'I wouldnt kick her out of bed for eating biscuits' because not only would it hurt her it would hurt me too when i get a well aimed slap across the mush.
Seriously though, we are only human and I concur with my friend who was referring to their diet and the menu.

i have been thinking about this for some time.
i have been thinking how the society could maintain the same number of yearly obligations but lower their costs.
i could see the society making some changes to the assembly/convention setup in the near future to cut costs.
We used to canvas the neighborhoods during the assemblies with promotions and publications and assembly day time was allocated for "service". I understand that feature was not very popular and may have been discontinued. An active Witness can bring this up to date for me.
Although definately not active and neither have I been for some considerable amount of years I do remember these days when an afternoon was devoted to the ministry and it was awful; I do remember it ceasing though and that was when i was still active; i think it changed when the days changed from 4 days to 3 days for the DA.

this topic has been covered many times, in many different ways, but let's open this for discussion: if the witnesses allowed an elder per congregation to be trained as a "pastoral counselor" as other religions do, would that make it more bearable to be a witness and play by their rules?
would it lessen the number of depressed, suicidal people who feel they have no reason to live?.

Isnt there a risk that this will boost the ego of the janitor elder concerned? I mean not only is the Janitor an Ordained Minister but hes a counsellor too??? Wow...he'l be saying hes a Doctor next.
No the only thing that would stop the amount of mental illness within the congregations is to disband the congregation, disband the WTS, disband the GB, and get professional help for those who are ill; counsellors are only part of the healing process in whatever situation they find themselves in, they would do much better by seeking help from those completely dispassionate to their beliefs and background as opposed to allowing self serving hypocrites manipulate them further.

Maybe you should look into history and learn some of the sexual practices that were the 'norm' before you just assume that THEN was better than NOW. Look at other cultures and see what is considered 'normal'.
This is a really good point...when it comes to sexual practices I would bet my left arm (notice its not my right) that we are less liberal than society was back then; the romans and greeks were infamous for homosexuality and sexual perversions and wouldnt bat an eye lid at promiscuity; Sodom & Gomorrah...need I say more about what we are told went on there.
The issue in the bible which highlighted Lots daughters being offered for rape is testament to the fact that such things were considered normal, he went on then to actually sleep with his daughters. One elder pointed out that he was drunk but we all know that he mustnt have been THAT drunk. Again it goes to show on a limited scale that such things were considered the norm or at least were marginally acceptable.
Truth be told I think Jez is right we are certainly no worse than we were back then, sex these days in its various forms has become stigmatised and is still treated as a taboo subject even in the more liberal of our cultures and this creates a different situation to back then but it might well be argued that things were a damn sight worse when people were less intelligent.

I believe the bible reflects humanity, not that it offered some mind blowing advice on how to live. The writers time capsuled via words, the best and the worst of humanity. They observed, they reported, they did not receive some divine intervention to write those words.
Exactly....whilst the words are not the inspired words of god but they do reflect the very worst and best of humanity....besides that....not really much use.

i say main meal, because dad's prayers were always considerably lengthy before a main meal, and are an institution in every jw household.
even now after a few years i'm just about ready to tuck in when i find myself saying a simple thanks under my breath.
From my distant memories of being a JW i remember an elder coming to dinner with his wife and my mother asked him to say a blessingTM; and well he went on and on and on and on....bloody food was cold by the time he'd finished...what was the point in that? I asked my mother that if he was ever to come to dinner again he should say a blessing before she started cooking...that way he might finish by the time its cooked.
Supporting this stance with the words of an animation seems as ludicrous as praying to an invisible entity you feel pretty certain doesn't exist.
Ludicrous but funny nonetheless... the stark honesty of the comment stuck with me...it was hardly an academic quote of great importance...but again funny nonetheless.
