Why do/don't you believe in God

now for all the scientists out there this is not a question of proof or anything along those lines.

for my part i choose to believe in a god because i honestly believe there is one (though i did start doubting for a little while) i've always felt that there was more to our existance on earth - and that doesn't stem from me wanting to live forever or as a spirit, as i don't even know if that will happen.

i also believe in him because many many times when i could not carry on, on my own strength, i managed to pulled through.

In part many of my views are shaped by my upbringing and there may well be an echo of JW ideology in my statement. I do however stand by it.

Another assumption but if the bible is a clear as some people claim then why after millenniumis it still being studied and debated?

Like the evidence that the world exists, or that people die and there's often a residual feeling that it's not the end, or...

Questioning the existence of the universe and our part in it has lead many cultures to believe in god/gods. Which one to pick?

The reformation had a lot to do with that, and some denominations continue to revise the "hymn sheet" as evidence becomes available.

So if there is a need for revision does it not follow that there are articles of faith that were originally in error?

If so how are we to chose what is and what is not correct?

It isn't that long since the existance of "black holes" was evidenced, yet there were plenty of scientists who poopoo'ed the idea before then. As it happens, many of their speculations about them are likely groundless (such as them being wormholes to other dimensions), and this may ultimately prove to be true in the "god of the gaps" debate. Meanwhile, he who merely ridicules only opens himself up to the potential of having egg on his face.

Whilst it is certainly true that many scientific discoveries are poopoo'ed initially, the poopoo'ers base their stance on the available evidence not their beliefs or faith. More importantly they change their stance when new evidence is presented. Is there a mechanism in religion where evidence takes precedence over scripture?

I don't believe in God. Evolution did it for me.
They're not mutually exclusive. I happily believe in both!

If this is true why isn't it written down in any religions texts?

Anyone going to GILLINGHAM Convention 2moro?? (Kent, UK)

just come back from the first day of the gillingham, kent, uk convention.

it was the first convention there, because i think they wanted to take the pressure off the twickenham rugby stadium... my cong was assigned to twickenham stadium, not to gillingham, but i "volonteered" was volonteered by our po (the same one who's on a rampage to appoint me as a "mini"... .

i didn't do much today, was assigned to car park duty, then went to sit down for the 1st and 2nd talks... took some notes, then decided to walk around to look for "poztates"... i didn't find any... (we should have a way of noticing each other), i didn't write my name or cong on my badge, so i thought that might be a little sign which might go un-noticed by the r&f, but i didn't attract any attention apart from a couple sisters who looked at me and called me "brother blank"... .

in leu of all these threads lately about what attracts us to the opposite (or same) sex, i was wondering if any of y'all out there share my love for the ladies (or gentlemen, if in your case) to have a little "junk in the trunk" or "cushion for the pushin'"?

i like really voluptuous women.

not obese, mind you, but some chunkyness is okay by me.

ive been here for sometime now.

long enough to know that some peoples hatred toward th wtbts and some of its members are based on wrong information.

for instance: ive read on hear many times that the wt promotes the idea that everyone whos not a witness are not friend material or will be destroyed at armageddon.

Ideas for a ex-jw party theme/games

i am planning to have a few ex-dubs over next month and i am trying to come up with some sort of game or theme maybe for the party.. it will just be a few people but i thought it might be fun to do play some game.. any ideas?

JW knocks

Two people go outside, they then knock on the door and everyone has to hide behind the furniture. Anyone who is discovered is “converted” and becomes the knocker.

Kingdom melody statues.

Play a kingdom melody whilst everyone mouths the words like a concussed goldfish. Stop the music at an unexpected point and anyone still mouthing along is avoided because they are obviously spiritually weak.

Kingdom hall chairs.

Place hard unstable plastic chairs in rows and get your guests to sit on them for 2 hours. Nothing else happens but it sure is a relief when it's over.

Pass the unwanted parcel

Rap up various gifts in layers of old Watchtowers and Awakes. Play kingdom melodies while the parcel is passed around. Stop the music and who ever ends up with the parcel has to explain to the person who gave it to them why they can't accept because of religious principles.

We once needed a focal point to answer all the nagging unanswerable questions of how did we get here, how should we live our lives and where do we go, questions that each religion tries to answer, some more successfully than others.
Science has answered many of these questions for us and possibly one day science will be considered in the same light as we now consider the universe being made out of someone's testicles

You really know how to insult a chap.

I don't dispute the fact that biblical laws have their place but I don't see any difference between them and secular laws.

Perhaps us humans tend to overanalyse things and that has lead to so much confusion.

Which is why I don't agree with the use of metaphor for a text that claims to be as important as it does. Metaphors can be misinterpreted or twisted.
