now that we're in the 21st century, and all those pre-millenium worries that a few had about armaggedon seem to have gone, everyone seems to be getting on with their lives, buying homes, going on cruises and planning for their retirement.. not everyone does these things, but there is so little talk about the great tribulation, armaggedon and the new system, you can't help but wonder if they are just going through the motions.. i see young people at the hall - they couldn't care less about spiritual things, although they may comment and go out in service.. i see people in the 30s quietly getting on with life - a few are building their own homes from scratch, others are planning on moving and some have bought new cars.. nothing wrong with this, but each of these things show an investment in the future.
a car has to be paid for (if its a lease), a home needs a 15/25/30 year mortgage and this all takes time.. time with a capital "t".. let's face it - the urgency is gone.
no one thinks about the "time of the end" and everyone does their own thing.. families are still having children.. one of my college professors once asked me: "how do you know that people have confidence in the future?".
Sense of urgency? How about a pulse.

The Watchtower is very much like the little boy who cried "Wolf" once too often. People are sick of getting ready to escape the wolf, when there is no wolf. Now, even if the world were about to end, who would have confidence in the watchtower's predictions anyway? The world may well end, but I think it will be in spite of - not because of - what the JWs have said.

i have been out of the wtbts for many years.
can someone enlighten me as to why there was some kind of scandal or something in the early 80's?
also--i have read people alluding to jw's attitudes changing after 1995. what happened in 1995?

i just found out today that my jw mum has turned down a proposal of marriage for the fourth time.
none of the proposals were from the same guy either, although all 4 were jw's.
i'm also told that mum's considered quite a dish for an octogenarian.. however, i'm also reliably informed that one of the main reasons for her refusals is because of the df'd "state" of my kid brother and myself.. see, she's considered a mature dub, one of the elite, and she also gets her own quiet ration of new light.
She deserves your love and respect. She obviously is a great mom, and going against the grain with the JW's is not for the faint of heart, I admire that she would be willing to give up companionship just to make sure her boys remain in her life.

has anyone here adopted children while a jw?
what are your views about this?.
My aunt and uncle are JW's and they adopted two biological sisters that they fostered. The girls are now in their late teens and seem well adjusted, however I don't think JW's should be allowed to adopt kids unless they are willing to drop the blood issue, If there was a way for JW parents to adopt and not have the right to refuse blood for this child than I would be all for it.

hello everybody...my daughter (in-law), whyamihere/brooke, has been at the hospital all day with her little boy, 1 yr. 4 months old...who has had such a bad case of the flu that they had to hook him up to an iv for fluid.
he was sick all last week and then was getting better...then took a turn for the worse yesterday.
can't keep anything down.

i just recently join this site because i was looking for a friendly place for witnesses to go and chat.it's ok!..but i seen a lot of witness bashing.there's another site i want to get into, that's also a site for the witnesses.but i don't know what po means.and that's the only way a true witness can get in.i think maybe there is where i want to be.because i don't need to be in a site for witnesses,where its suppose to be friendly.yet witness haters are coming in.i haven't heard any witness bashing anyone in this site..but yet its the other way around.
