Need Ideas - Parenting Problem/Question
by exjwshell inhere's a question to all of you parents out there.... do any of you, especially those who were born and raised as a jw, have trouble parenting your non-jw children?...
i've been "out" for 18 years and since then have married and had two children.
i find it incredibly difficult to not parent "witness style".

Being a parent is hard enough without adding into that all of the irrational fears that the org indoctrinated us with. I feel for you.

he?s married, with 3 young children, but is very confused as to what to do, as his family hasn?t been activity supporting the kingdumb hall (i.e., borg)!

SHUNNING AT A TIME OF BEREAVEMENT..i told them what i think
by chuckyy ini posted yesterday or day before regarding my anger at my wife being shunned the day after her father died.. in fact it was a very deliberate shun by 3 women who went out of their way to brush right past my wife.. i saw 2 of them today and went up to them in the school playyard and said very loudly for all the parents to hear:.
"i would like to thank you both for your condolensces and for walking right past my wife when her father had just died.. true christianity??
?.....isn't it lovely!!!!!!.

I am so sorry for your loss.
When my mother died I had a very similiar experience. I think that the reason that they behave the way they do is that they realize that "the hope" offers little or no comfort to someone who is grieving. What is left for them as JWs to say? Instead of reaching out-----they hide. I would've killed for someone to tell me that nothing that they could say would make this less of a loss. My family was abandoned by our "family"the congregation and my unbelieving "worldly" relatives embraced us. Even after being shunned by us for not having the same beliefs. We were grateful and ashamed all at once.
I applaud you for taking a stand in you wifes behalf. I can tell you from experience, that what you've done means the world to her. Hopefully, those sisters will be forced to look at themselves and feel shame.

Cherry juice will take down the inflammation and celery seed tea will inhibit the uric acid from building up. Take care of your liver-----try something natural!

How about the demonic connotation the having an "open mind" has? I told my mother in law recently that I thought of myself as being open minded and I thought the poor woman was going to have a stroke!!! If witnesses carried holy water, I would have been covered in it. She was completely freaked out!

Is the need to be in a religion a personality trait....................
by BLISSISIGNORANCE inlike the idea that alcoholics have a particular gene, certain mannerisms we inherit from parents or grand-parents, red hair is a recessive gene etc.
is religion inherited as a life style or emotional dependency?????????????????
is it low self-esteem and the need for others to decide what is right and wrong, how to live and even die???????.

I have to agree with most of what Rebellious said but, I do think that people generally fall into two categories: 1) Loners 2) Joiners. While most "Loners" can deal socially but, prefer to be alone or with a limited number, "Joiners "don't do very well unless surrounded by a crowd. These are the same people who before ending one relationship, are jumping into another. I think they are confusing being alone with being lonely.

Refusing magazines/books from JW relatives
by JustTickledPink inrecently my mother dropped in on us and in front of other people, very nicely handed me some trinkets aka dust collectors for my house and some wts magazines.
the way she handed everything to me at once i just held out my hands and took it all.. i threw the magazines away immediately, i consider them trash and don't even want them around... but then decided exactly what i was going to do.
i am going to buy a yard sale cross or virgin mary statue and give it to my mom.. i specifically told her i don't want any publications and she slipped them in anyways.... so, on that note, she hates any religious icons, i am going to give her something that she doesn't want.
