this week, my congregation has the privilege of the visit from the circuit overseer.. my mother took a day off work to go out.
i put in for extra hours.. in the off chance we get wrapped up in discussion, what should i say?.

I think when we all get to meet God, it will be alot like meeting someone at an apostafest that you have been talking to for awhile online.
He won't be anything like what we imagined, but once we meet him all the stuff that he said and did will make total sense.

I don't know if there is a single thing to look for, although I would say the first thing to go when my wife is vulnerable is field service. If she isn't 100 dubbed out, field service is a no-go.
But I have learned to look for other clues. Usually a dub goes in phases of zealotry and doubt. When my wife is doubting it is usually at a time when she isn't keeping up on things as much. Other things are taking up her time, and the jw lifestyle starts taking it's toll. I try to read her comments in her WT. Those are interesting and illuminating. You start to see what is important to them.
I also know that there are times when I should back way off. Or when we are discussing a topic, I have learned when I have stepped to far.
It is hard to say J. I think I mostly go on instincts. It is a matter of honing, refining, and trusting them.

It is more then that. They were neck deep in the attack on the Marine Barracks in Lebanon. The USMC wants payback for 220 dead Marines in 1983. They won't "get over it"

Iran is a conundrum.
We can't let Iran get the bomb: They are simply to crazy. MAD worked because the soviet leaders could be trusted to not do something that would destroy the dream of worldwide socialsim. The Iranian leaders would see it as martyrdom. They are the avowed enemies of Israel, the US, and the entire non-muslim world. They also sit on and in close proximity to most of the worlds oil reserves. By possessing the bomb they could invade and exercise hegemony over the entire region and keep the world at bay. An Indian general said after Desert Storm that the lesson was don't tangle with the Americans unless you have nukes. Iran wants nukes because they want to tangle with us.
We can't invade: I just don't see how an invasion, or even a limited bombing campaign would do any good. They have certainly learned from the Osirik disaster when the Israelis took out Saddam's nuclear ambitions in one swift strike. Their facilities are distributed and hardened and secret. Absent another 9/11 type attack , the American public would not support another invasion looking for WMD. That was the most unfortunate failure of the Iraq war. The most publicized purpose for the war, turned out to be false. Now any discussion of war to remove the Iranian nuclear ambtion will be lambasted in light of the failure to find wmd in Iraq. And the American public has no desire for another occupation.
The other ticking clock in Iran:
Regime change. That is what everyone is hoping/waiting for. Everyone is hoping that the much hated regime will finally be toppled by the young, restless, and freedom loving populace. The actions of the new president shows that those are genuine fears for the regime. He has removed several members of the military hierarchy. There has been brutal suppression of all dissent. Unfortunately, the rest of the world has done almost nothing to help support any democratic movement in Iran.
So the question is which clock will go off first?
Will there be regime change before there is a bomb? Do we have good intelligence on how far along the bomb is? Can we trust any such intelligence in light of the failure to find wmd in Iraq? Glad I am not President/Prime Minister. The world is starting to bear eerie similarities to 1914 and the 1930s.

Steven Hassan says that no matter how long a person has been in, they will always yearn to be free. I have also heard people here say that they are glad they are out.
I wonder some times though. I know people that have been in a VERY long time, they have just tuned it all out to keep their sanity. I wonder if a non-jw loved one spent some time and effort, that it wouldn't take much to give them a different perspective.
I guess if a person is ready, they will find their way out. If they are not, there is nothing another person can do about it. So if we just help all we can, the ones who can't or shouldn't be help will protect themselves from the truth about the truth.

like the subject title says, i'm hurt, desperate and confused and don't know what to do anymore.
i'm so desperate to have something to live for that i'm considering converting to something like the jehovah's witnesses.

I am glad you have felt at home and supported here. Most have been through alot and have some really messed up family situations. I guess that is why you fit in. I think the other reason is that a lot of folks were just like you when the knock at the door came. We can't go back in time, but we can warn you.
I am very glad you are away at school. It sounds like your home life is not a place that is very healthy. Being away from home can be very disconcerting though. It is hard to setup the new friends and routines that give us stability and comfort. I have moved several times in my life, and I have found it takes about a year for a place to feel like home.
The key is it sounds like you are dealing with your situation in a healthy way. You are doing things to deal with your problems that will make your situation BETTER. Often, when we feel down we do things that might give us a short term bit of relief, but make our situation much WORSE.
You sound like a pretty sharp kid. From the story you have told it has probably taken quite a bit for you to be as wise as you are showing yourself to be.
