so what is the jw version of the events that will take place in "the last days".

here is how i understand the jw version of things.. 1. beginning of last days.

christ returns (1874, then 1914) (we are still here right?).

i hate it when people call it a cult

Yes that is not a very considerate or Christian thing to say to people. Nobody likes to have their deeply held beleifs held in contempt. Even worse, is when a person presumes that somebody must be bad or dishonest if they don't agree with what we think the Bible means on something.

For instance, I get really irritated when some people are so sure that they have "the truth", that they act like I must be some kind of jerk because I don't agree with them.

I am always very careful not to do that, because I am a Christian. I always try not to do things to people, that I wouldn't want done to me.

Do you think that is a good idea?

This is a logical fallacy known as a "hasty generalization". It is likely that some do, however you couldn't possibly know, unless you researched all 3000+ known or unknown religions, whether or not this is a true statement. Keep this fallacy in mind next time you here jws telling you how all other religions "don't follow the Bible". Furthermore, your statement implies unlike members of other religions, JW members do not sin between services? Are you saying that every member of every church is less debout and serious about their faith in Jehovah? That is quite an assumption indeed.

You might be surprised to find there are some churches with teachings nearly identical to the jw on God, Jesus, the trinity, the immortal soul, and whether or not hell is really hot. The Restored Church of God (www.thercg.org) even rejects blood transfusions. Some, like the Christadelphians, were teaching the exact same things when Jesus was making his examination in 1919. Why did he choose the jw then?

Yes. But I also smile when I hit them and they get that confused, forlorn, "Oh crap! What does the organization say about that!!!!" look on their face.

or you could just flip them off and slam the door.

Ha! I like it yours better actually.

But since I can't slam the door on my wife, I will use mine.

Plus, as a rule, I think you should always look for opportunities to claim the moral high ground when dealing with a dub. It really chaps their ass when worldlies do that.

If you slam the door, you give them the chance to feel persecuted and oh so SUPERIOR.

wow, what's going on here?

i look at all the new folk here that seem to have joined in the past 2 months and are posters who are under 100 posts and i gotta wonder why.. has something happened in dubland recently to cause a lot of folk to reach out?

if you are new here at jwd, how did you find us?

I wouldn't mind seeing stats on growth of membership too. The more the merrier!

Plus such growing membership would be irrefutable evidence that WE are God's organization.....

My Dad

just a wee update on my current tentative drawing out of my family.

i sent a letter, which not coincidentally was timed to arrive on fathers day weekend just gone.

its the first letter i've sent in 8 years to my family and whilst i was careful to avoid any mention of religion i did talk about how happy i was generally and mentioned how nice it is that i see so much of my inlaws who despite living 800 miles away make regular visit to us at least 3 or 4 times a year.

Every little bit helps, I know.

I hope your daddy wakes up. Daughters love their daddies so much. I look at my little girl, and I know her sun rises and sets with me. I could never stop talking to her for 8 days, let alone 8 years, no matter what she did.

I think you understand that it isn't your real dad who is doing these things, but the cult member that has been grafted on top of him. He loves you so much. Don't forget that.

And good job on making the distinction and not taking his distance personally. That was one of the hardest parts for me.
