Our parents' anniversary was always a big event. We would go out somewhere the kids liked for dinner, come home and unwrap tons of presents.

WTS publication: Mankind's Search for God
by Gorbatchov infriends,.
at the end of the 80's the wts published "mankind's search for god", about the global mainstream religion's.. what's your opinion about this publication?.
i think it was written for use on the weekly bookstudy, there were questions for all paragraphs.. after the publication it was never used at the bookstudy, and it was only rarely used in the congregation.. .

As WTBS books go, I thought it was one of the more even-keeled, though definitely filtered through the lens of JW theology. Not being an expert on world religions, I took most of what it said at face value.
I looked forward to studying it at the BS, but obviously we didn't. Despite it's JW perspective, there are long sections outlining the beliefs and practices of world religions with nary a constesting scripture or WTBS thought in sight (although the slant of the writing lends itself to the whole thing being skewed to WTBS thought.)
In my opinion, a reason it never was studied was because there would be entire book studies spent solely talking about Buddhist or Catholic or Hindu beliefs, and many times not a contrasting JW viewpoint presented. One could come away from these meetings with some genuine interest in these other belief systems and investigate them further, and that could not be allowed to happen!

What will the elders think?
by TMS ina week ago my wife and i ran into a jw nephew and his wife at the supermarket.
despite knowing that my wife and i are no longer jw's, he was very gracious, giving his aunt and i a warm hug and introducing his wife to us.
he casually mentioned meeting with the elders and their decision to disfellowship.

I'm pretty sure that tattoo = no MS or eldership if you have it done after baptism.
Time to get inked!

Are you a lonely JW this xmas day? read on...
by highdose inthis is a post for all those jw lurkers out there who were once like me but probably think they are all alone and that noone else is going through what they are.... xmas day as a lonely jw is a real bitch!
what happens is: you spend the whole day alone, knowing that all those jw familys in your area are all together today having a great time!
if you have a family thats not jw then they are also all together having a great time... but you can't join in.... so you sit there watching tv, all the xmas films coming on... showing familys together on xmas day.... but wait a second!

Working for a JW, what a horrible experience...
by HappyGuy inone of the things that made me start doubting the wtbts and jws was the way jws treat their jw employees.. i worked for jws several times.
the experience was always the same.. 1. pay was less than the going market rate for the same work at "worldly" companies.. 2. there were no benefits of any kind, no paid holidays, no sick time, no overtime, no insurance.. 3. whenever possible the jw forced the jw employees to pay their own company related expenses like gas, pager, company uniform, etc.. 4. any attempt to discuss the poor working conditions was always responded to with "but you get to make all the meetings and you get to go to the assemblies and you get to work for brothers.
" and, if you said "i would go to meetings regardless of who i worked for" and pushed back on that answer then they started in on your "loyalty" and you were unspritual if you questioned a "brother" and were not "loyal" to your employer.. 5. any attempt to find another job was met with harassment, being told you could not give the jw employer as a reference, being threatened with lawsuits, etc.. 6. the jw employers themselves were lazy and would not do the things they expected of their jw employees.. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------.

I would never work for JW's again, the things that annoy me about the constant invasion of privacy in my private life cross over to the work place. Plus there is absolutely no regard for non-JW's and their beliefs, feelings, or observations. A total lack of respect. I apologized several times to non-JW's about boorish, insensitive JW behavior with a sheepish "Not all of us are like that."
But I also worked for a faded JW and that was just as bad because he knew the whole JW system and thought process and used it to his advantage regarding holidays, end of year bonuses etc. In fact he ran the place like a mini-Bethel. But then again if I was supposed to be a good little JW I wouldn't have had any problem with that either.

Last Nights Mtg. "Demonstrate Personal Interest" (New Bible Students Beware)
by WalkTall insometimes it just hits you how cold and unfeeling this religious corporation is.. last night there was a part in the kingdom ministry about helping new bible studies.
in one paragraph it mentioned how the new student might cut ties with former associates because they are not living by bible principles.
it says that their families might disown them.

"Not living by Bible principles..." = "Not doing what the WTBS says"

Marcy Playground "Sex and Candy"
Thank you! I couldn't stand this song when it came out (mid-90's?) and it was played to death by the new "alternative" stations that were popping up everywhere. I thought it was lazy and boring (still do.)
Then it was named one of the "100 Best Songs of the 90's" by VH1. Aaaaargh!

I was horrible with roommates, just always around, having to share the tv, in my way in the kitchen, stealing my cds, strangers crashing on the couch...not my thing. I had lived on my own for a long time and moved in with some peeps when I moved to another city. But if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have done it. But family is completely different, I love that.
