I thought it was a great movie. It shows that if you give your goverment a little to much power over personal freedom, the government will take it upon itself to take the rest of your freedoms. Loved the moved from start to finish and Natalie Portman is one hot bald chick!

Need a good question to ask a JW at work
by claytoncapeletti inif you had to pick the best question that would disprove a scared jw belief what would it be?
i am not looking to debate the meaning of a scripture vs. a different scripture, rather i am looking for one of their beliefs that science and or history can totally dispute.
i may only be able to ask one question and there is a good chance that it will end up back to the elders.

Study ended because he asked too many embarrassing questions.
by bronzefist innothing new here just a reminder to those who havent been to hall for awhile.. a workmate just had his study cut off.
there were some things he was being taught that he agreed with (trinity) some he didnt (faithful and discreet slave being a group of old men in ny).
here are a couple of interesting facts:.

The best way i can describe growing up a JW is that you always feel different and left out. From the moment i entered grade school, I was led to beieve that it was bad for me to make friends, play organized sports or join any kind of social clus. After being told so many times that everyone but JWs are bad people looking to turn you away from god, you evenually start to believe it. Since I had a lot of friends at the hall, I did not think that I was missing out on anything. When I left and all of a sudden had no friends and had no idea how to actually make friends, thats when I realized how important it is for kids to be socially involved with each other. Looking from the outside in, I can see how harmful it is to raise a child and brainwash him into thinking that only one type of personiw worthy of friendship. It creates isolated, lonely chidlren who do not know how to cope with the real world. It wasn't missing out on holidays or having to go in service on Saturdays that makes growing up a JW kid harmful. It's being led to believe that the world is out to get you and being forced to miss out on the opportunity to connect with the rest of the world.

I'm Attending the Memorial
by RichieRich inmy lovely girlfriend and i sat down over a homecooked meal, and discussed the pros and cons of attending the memorial.. i decided, with her support, that we would attend.. i spent years of my life pretending to be a witness to please my mother.
when i left the witnesses, my mother said some hurtful things.. and those things really hurt me... for a while.
but i established myself as my own person, developed my own relationships, and have gotten a good start on my own life.. i don't know that i want to hurt my mother back, but i do want to make it abundantly clear to her, my grandmother, and all the members of my former congregation, that richierich is alive and kicking.. and i think that walking into the kingdom hall, dressed respectfully in a suit, yet with full piercing jewelry intact, and with erika wearing something classy that steals the brother's eyes, and draws glares from the humble sisters, will be just the thing to send that message to my mother.. i don't plan on partaking or making a disturbance.

I feel so left out, no elder has stopped by for a special visit and to invite me to the memorial. If it were not for this board I would not have even known about the memorial. I even work with 5 JW's and none of them told me. I guess I am not wanted anymore.

Buddhism, Taoism, Meditation, and any other Non-Christian Journeys...
by exjdub inthere have been a lot of christian threads lately, so i thought that i would open a topic for other journeys.
because there is no way i will ever be a christian again because the curtain has been opened and i can see behind it, however i have an open mind and have started some meditation practices.
i have been thinking about visiting a buddhist temple out of curiosity.

I have been practing meditation and studying buddhism for a little while now and I find it a great way to peace. It has helped me open my eyes to other possibilities other than the standard christian view on the world. I have wanted to go to a meditation class or to some kind of buddhism class but still have not been able to. Still looking for somewhere to go in S. Florida and the time to dedicate to it.

Stupid "Bible" Prophecies The Watchtower & "Slave" Fed Us
by minimus inbible writers must be rolling in their graves if they saw how their writings were taken apart and mangled by the "spirit directed organization".
the watchtower prides itself in getting ones 'tasteful spiritual food, nutritional", even!
what stupid understandings have the witnesses believed in over the years that show you they certainly do not have the "truth"?

My favorite is that only 144,000 go to heaven while the rest of the JW's and those "worldly people" who die before armaggdeon will live forever on a paradise earth. It's unbelieveable that I once both into that twisted logic. I now understand why people would look at me so wierd when I tried to explain that one in field service.
