Trinitiarian "proof-text" John 20:28 has some problems for "Trinitarians"
by booker-t inall through my years as a jws and after i have always wondered about john 20:28 where thomas says "my lord and my god" to jesus.
i just could not find a suitable answer for this text to disprove the trinity doctrine.
i really never swallowed the jws intrepretation of "shock" by thomas something like "oh my god" but at the same time i had a gut feeling trinitarians were hiding something about this verse.

I don't know what his being a teacher of Hebrew would have to do with his abilities in koine, but in any event...
... in the Greek whenever a person was being addressed as "My Lord" it was always (Mou Kurie) and not (Mou Kurious).
In the case of John 20:28 the o kurios mou may not be intended as a direct address (and, therefore, would not be in the vocative).
However, the use of the nominative in exclamations can be used as "'a sort of interjectional nominative' (Robertson, p.461) and is a device for emphasis." Also, "[m]any grammarians call attention to the nominative 'in place of' or 'as' a vocative." (Vaughan and Gideon Greek Grammar of the New Testament p.25.)
In Matthew 16:23 and Mark 8:33 Jesus does address Peter as "satan" ("adversary") or "Satan" (presumably metaphorically); the name is in the vocative ( satana ).

UNLESS the Governing Body intends for convention-goers to go forth heavily armed with the intent of massacring the locals,
it would appear that the allusion to Numbers:14:7-9 is an egregious misapplication of Scripture.
Perhaps the Watch Tower Society's abuse of the Bible will wake up a few...

Will firing the DOs be the first step to a new Watchtower?
by Juan Viejo2 inagainst my better judgement, i've decided to share the following as a response to guy pierce passing and the announcement of the elimination of district overseers later this year.. late in january (2014) i got an email from one of my contacts (a fader) who served at bethel for several years, but is no longer at wt hq.
he still has a lot of close contacts within the service department and in other departments at patterson and knows people in all of the ny offices.
i kept this email set aside on a flash drive and haven't shared it with anyone - figuring i'd publish an article about it later this year when i had more time to do it right.

Bah. Sometimes the Watch Tower Society is so predictable:
posted 6 years ago(7/20/2007) 276 of 633 Joined 2/15/2005 Watch for the appearance of a sub heavenly class.
Maybe, Gary. But my guess is the Society will soon be receiving "New (and improved) Light" indicating that the number 144 000 is not to be taken as literal. That way they can keep the two-class/two-destiny system without worrying about the non-declining number of Partakers. The number 144 000 was conspicuous by its absence in the 01. May 2007 QfR. And an increase in the number of partakers won't threaten the current power structure because the Governing Body has already declared that the "genuine" (non-GB) anointed willingly serve under the direction of the Governing Body, have no special insight, and may even be 'spiritually weak.'

The picture is intended to depict the Apostle Paul dictating to his amanuensis.
No one would have used nomina sacra in manuscripts of the mid-first century A.D. (the original manuscripts) ...

"Incidentally, Bible chronology also fixes the time for Christ's second presence and the assuming of his right to rule as at 1914: this date was published in The Watchtower as early as 1879, thirty-five years before 1914." (The Sign of Christ's Presence, p.3)
No. This is what is called in ordinary parlance a "lie". The Watchtower taught before and even after 1914 that Christ's Second Presence had begun in 1874, and that He had assumed his right to rule in 1878.
(It was the Society's willingness to boldly lie that contributed most to my departure.)

Important(!) In the earlier post, I incorrectly stated the month (sorry!); the following is correct:
Jehovah's prophetic word through Christ Jesus is: "This generation [of 1914] will by no means pass away until all things occur." (Luke 21:32) And Jehovah, who is the source of inspired and unfailing prophecy, will bring about the fulfillment of his Son's words in a relatively short time." (Watchtower 15. MAY 1984, p. 6 [brackets theirs!])

"Jehovah's Witnesses, in thier eagerness for Jesus second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect. Because of this some have called them false prophets. Never in these instances, however, did they presume to originate predictions ' in the name of Jehovah '. Never did they say, ' These are the words of Jehovah'." (AWAKE! 22. March 1993)
Oh, really?
Jehovah's prophetic word through Christ Jesus is: "This generation [of 1914] will by no means pass away until all things occur." (Luke 21:32) And Jehovah, who is the source of inspired and unfailing prophecy, will bring about the fulfillment of his Son's words in a relatively short time." (Watchtower 15. March 1984, p. 6 [brackets theirs!])

Now predicting increase of anointed?
by jgnat ini came across this nugget in the may 2014 issue:.
"are you moving ahead with jehovah's organization".
....at one time, the anointed remnant were like the little one, but their number grew as other spiritual israelites were brought into gods organization.

....At one time, the anointed remnant were like “the little one,” but their number grew as other spiritual Israelites were brought into God’s organization. (Gal. 6:16) Because of Jehovah’s blessing over the years, the increase continues with the gathering of the great crowd....
I supect it is simply poorly phrased and that they are actually referring to the increase in the number of members of "God's [earthly] Organisation", which increase is primarily due to the increase of the supposed Great Crowd (--Or did they mean "Other Sheep"?--)... On the other hand, in the past the Society often stated things ambiguously to run ideas as a trial balloon before committing to a doctrine; they could then "clarify" in a Question from Readers article.
