Kingdom Hall Weddings - November Kingdom Ministry
by BluesBrother inif this has already been posted up - then i missed it.. this question box left me .
.

What concerns me most regarding this article is the fallout that will occur where some have decided (or will decide) that they really didn't want the hassle of the Kingdom Hall wedding. The "Rumour-mill" will quickly conclude that they were forbidden (or realized they would be forbidden) to use the Hall because of "conduct unbecoming a Christian"...

Deceptive or just wrong?
by johnnyc ini have been virtually non-stop studying everything i can get my hands on with regards the wtbts, and "apostate" literature and information.
in all honesty, 80% at least is non-sense and over critical.
however, i do find about 20% (if i have to create a percentage reference) is appropriate in its line of reasoning and questioning.

johnnyc writes:
there are many examples by which imperfection of God's channel still required obedience thereof - it does not let us off the hook for going our own way...
Fine and dandy, old bean. But the Society is in no way, shape, or form "God's channel"...

The Society does claim to be a prophet. Publications of the Watch Tower Society establish the view that they claim to speak for God. Rutherford stated:
“These are the anointed class on earth, and these are they who are watchmen and who joyfully do the will of the Lord on earth. Since he commands what shall be done on earth we should have no difficulty in finding that he is directing his work. The Watch Tower is the medium of communication with the various ones who are watchmen and who love the Lord. The Lord has long used it for that purpose. During the year just past THE WATCH TOWER, we believe, has set forth some meat in due season sent from the Lord. (WT 01. Dec. 1925, p.355)
“Without a doubt the Lord uses his angels to cause the truth to be published in The Watchtower, and the faithful followers of Christ Jesus who hear and give heed to the message of truth from the Lord and render obedience thereto are thus a spectacle or theater to others, both men and angels...” (WT 01. Feb. 1935, p.41)
“In 1927 God began to reveal to his people the meaning of the dream had by Nebuchadnezzar. Thereafter, in August 1930, by and through the columns of The Watchtower God caused to be published the proper understanding of the dream of Nebuchadnezzar. As stepping stones gradually leading up to the understanding of the great image was the publication of the articles in The Watchtower, to wit, “The Winepress,” September 1, 1926 ; “The Stone in Zion,” October 15, 1926. No man can properly interpret prophecy, and the Lord sends his angels to transmit correct information to his people, and when these truths come to his people and the facts fit the prophecy, then they should take it as from the Lord and receive it with rejoicing.” (WT 15. Feb. 1935, p.52) .
(The Society’s new understanding of Nebuchadnezzar‘s dream, although declared to be “proper”, “correct”, and “from the Lord”, has since been abandoned as false.) Thus the Lord gets the blame for Rutherford’s erroneous teachings and false prophecies.
Rutherford even went so far as to equate his false prophecy regarding 1925 with the Gospel:
“Therefore it seems that now is the time for the church to proclaim far and wide in Christendom this good news. Hence it is the purpose of the Society to ask every public speaker, all the Pilgrim brethren, all the elders of classes, all who can give a public discourse in every part of Christendom, to prepare a discourse upon the subject: “The World Has Ended~Millions Now Living Will Never Die,” and to herald this message as a witness to Christendom; and it would seem if the church fails to do this, the very stones will cry out.” (WT 01. July 1920, p.200)
“Surely the words of the Master are now in course of fulfillment: "This gospel ["The World Has Ended: Millions Now Living Will Never Die"] shall be preached in all the world for a witness, and then shall the end come". The Master’s inspiring words thrill the heart of the Christian and spur him on with greater zeal to give the witness now. We urge the dear brethren everywhere, everyone who is qualified, according to the Lord’s arrangement, for speaking to the public, to use for all public addresses the subject: "Millions Now Living Will Never Die". It is the message that we want to get to the people. It is the message of the hour. It is the message that must go to all Christendom as a witness before the final end of the present order.” (WT 15. Oct. 1920, p.310 bracketed material in original)

Santa & Kids - To Lie or Not To Lie?
by sweet pea inthis will be our second christmas since leaving the wts but we will be away in nz with besty's extended family so probably won't bother much with trees and decorations but the santa issue is playing on my mind, especially now podlet no.
1 is at preschool.. do we bring the children up to believe in santa & co with all the magic, mystery and excitement associated with the fairytale or do we tell him right away what the deal is - either route is going to feel very strange.
my gut feeling is to go along with the myth and give them those happy memories of wonder and anticipation - what do you all think?.

I would imagine that a child can have pleasant childhood memories without being told that fiction is truth. However,...
Why not just allow "Santa" to be like "Winnie-Puuh", or a Teddybear -- "He's not real -- but you can still play with him..." (My younger son once told us [tongue-in-cheek] after the season's first snowfall that his Teddybear was now hibernating...)
My children knew from the beginning that there is no Santa, but we could still have fun with it.

JW'S: WHAT A LOVING BUNCH!
by Mary ini just found out that one of my moms friends is in the process of being taken to the cleaners by her scumbag son-in-law and her own daughter---both who are witnesses.
she's been widowed for several years now and, like many witnesses, her husband had no life insurance (why bother----the new system was going to be here long before either of them got sick or died right?
) and she had never worked outside the home.. anyway, she managed to save enough money through working part time (she gets part of her husband's pension but it's only about $800.00 a month) and she put a small downpayment on a place to live.

Even when you are dealing with the "friend sticking closer than a brother", it is wise to 'put it in writing.'
Because sometimes people die.

They are NOT "just wrong", they are deceptive.
"The Watchtower has consistently presented evidence to honesthearted students of Bible prophecy that Jesus' presence in heavenly kingdom power began in 1914." Watchtower, 15. Jan. 1993, p. 5, para. 3
However, the Watch Tower Society actually taught that the presence had begun in 1874: W May 1881, WTR p.223, W Sept. 1898, WTR p.359, W 01. Jan. 1910, WTR p.4543, W 15. Feb. 1928, p.54, para. 24. Other pre- and post-1914 statements indicate that the teaching promulgated by the Watch Tower Society had been that Jesus' reign in heavenly kingdom power began in 1878: e.g. W Dec. 1879, WTR p.58, W 15. Dec. 1892, WTR p.1484, W 15. Nov. 1916, WTR p.5990.
"Based on what [Jesus] said, along with the words of Daniel and John, Jehovah's witnesses pointed to the year 1914, decades in advance,* as marking the start of 'the conclusion of the system of things.' " Awake! of 22. January 1973, p. 8, para. 4
However, the Watch Tower Society actually taught that the "time of the end" began in A.D. 1799: W Nov. 1890, WTR p.1258, W 01. Nov. 1914, WTR p.5565, The Harp of God, p. 229-234, W 01. Dec. 1928 p. 25, para. 13.
The Watch Tower Society has knowingly lied about its history.

Can I play, too?
we can either accept the Scriptural chronology (with 1914 following from this evidenced by dramatic and irrevocable change in the world situation i.e. “the last days”) ...
The change was so dramatic that they continued to trumpet the year 1799 as the beginning of the last days until at least 1927...

Defence of watchtower society Links
by reniaa ini thought long and hard before making this thread, that many will not agree with it but i think there needs to be balance and people to realise there are alternate viewpoints out there on many of these subjects, the ones that are most spoke about on this forum.
i was recently sent a full message containing mary's book and these links give the rebuttal to many of her points.
those that are still open-minded enough feel free to look over them even if in the end you still don't agree at least you have heard both the defence as well as the attack as they are on the internet.
