scholarly lectures on bible history or evolution
by cobweb ini recently enjoyed this series of yale lectures on youtube about the hebrew bible.. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=plfbxb0kkaycq2hf6jlccdn6z47ysyxscw.
i really liked the woman doing them and she had a lot of knowledge.
it does seem quite rare to have such university lectures available.

MIT offers most of their undergrad courses online, and I'm sure there are other schools with similar open course programs.

Your Favorite Poetry
by compound complex inthank you, dear friends, for expressing your thoughts today on the importance of the arts in your lives.
many years ago, a number of threads were devoted to poetry, literature, even english grammar.
rather than resurrect an old thread -- usually with zero results -- i would like to introduce a new post, asking you to add some of your favorite verse.

"Love, now a universal birth,
From heart to heart is stealing,
From earth to man, from man to earth,
It is the hour of feeling."

David-Jay, I would just like to point out that the phrase "God is dead" was by no means coined by Jews in the holocaust. Read "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" by Neitzche if you are interested. -

Hello,
The members of this forum hold a wide variety of beliefs, and you'll likely get a wide variety of answers to your question from them. The one thing we all have in common, however, are our experiences in a high-control religion and the struggle to make independent religious decisions. It seems strange to me that a person would exit an environment such as the wtbts and then continue rely on other people for information about religion and spirituality. What about Catholicism do you find appealing?

Singapore does the right thing

I wouldn't say they are necessarily doing the "right thing". Banning literature (of any kind) is a dangerous slippery slope, and I feel that their are better ways to counteract the jdubs teachings than to censor people's writings.
Also, it feeds their persecution complex - remember, that last days are close! :P

ATT: WARNING
by EJ257 inplease be aware of everything that is happening around the world at this moment in time.
this goes to anyone, ex-communicated, removed, serving, believer and non.
at this point in my observations i have realized many religions/ideologies know there is some sort "end of time" or a transition into a new order of living in this earth.

Sparky, I think someone should throw a trademark on that "I MEAN IT". It's real catchy when used like that.

"Most women would prefer to be stay at home housewives. Women's lib did alot of damage to women!"
by purrpurr inthe above is a quote from a jw female relative.
this was in response to a discussion about the suffragette movement ( and the movie about it that's currently in cinemas).
she seemed to think that it would be so much better if women were just daughters/ wives/ mothers and didn't go out to work and have career's?

Let's break this down into a non-gender based argument, shall we?
A) I would argue that most PARENTS would like to spend as much time as possible with their children, especially when they are young.
B) I would argue that most PEOPLE would prefer to have some career where they are able to apply themselves and feel rewarded.
C) I would argue that most PEOPLE, when indoctrinated over the course of their lives to believe that they are inferior to a different group of PEOPLE, will internalize and perpetuate those doctrines.
Just sayin, there's certainly no "womans' place" or even a "mans' place".

Attempting to stir up paranoia within a group of ex-doomsday cultists? I like your style.
