I'm starting to really get into the New Testament. This is great!
by MichaelM instuff i never really touched much when i was a studying with the witnesses.
i'm in awe.. amazed.. at the things jesus is saying/doing.. some of it is even putting me in tears.
one chapter that i really love so far is i'm in luke and i'm reading about the woman who came into the pharisee's home and started kissing jesus' feet and jesus told the story of the two people that owed money.

Another Elder Suicide?
by still_in74 inwell it looks like a southern ontario elder just took his own life.
i cant go into details as we live in a very small world in "the truth" and even the smallest amount of detail on this one could quickly connect this to me, so for now its on the d-low.. it is a relative of a very close friend and he is godsmacked by it.
he said to me, " we sure seem to be seeing more of this lately arent we?

This post highlights to me why the organazation is so dangerous. It's like the line in the song "Hotel California" "You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave". I guess the elder spoken of opted to "check out" rather than suffer the "never leave" part. I also like to think of it like an animial caught in a trap that has a choice to make. Either Gnaw off it's foot and survive (Get disfellowshipped), crippled or remain trapped and suffer eventual death. (By denying consceince and logical reasoning). Neither option is a good one. The situation is worse the longer you've been in. So sorry to hear of another loss. seek2find

What's the main purpose to the out of town Assemblies?
by JH inwith all the meetings jw's attend each week, why do they need a district assembly or circuit assembly?.
is it to show how big the organization is or is it just to baptize a few.. couldn't this be done staying in their home town.
is there a financial advantage to the watchtower to have these assemblies out of town ?.

The bad thing for some that live in rural areas is that they have to travel to the bigger cities to circut assemblies and SADs some travel over 200 miles and have to stay overnight. Even tho the smaller closer towns have facilities, the bigger city is chosen because of convience to the CO and DO and visiting speakers. So the same people have to travel long distances while the ones that live closer to the big city don't have to do anything special. Not quite fair, but then again who said all in life was fair. :) seek2find

Why label it a cult?
by rebel8 inwhat purpose does it serve?
it just seems to polarize people and ostracize those who aren't ready or willing to label it a cult.
anyone can look up the dictionary definition of a cult (or experts' definitions).

I think it's like the debate over whether Alcholism is a disease or an addiction (Weakness) it's all in how each individual preceives it. If we label it as a cult, we (some of us anyway)are making the statement that we have wised up and aren't going to fall for the deception anymore. As far as the leadership goes, I don't beleive any of the leaders at the top beleive that it's anything other than "Gods Organization" in some ways they are the most deceived of all. Like Ray said in "Crisis of Conscience" they are victims of the organizational concept. seek2find

To Scottsman:
You said: " ...the forum for the faithless is still going"
That's an interesting coment. Some here have lost faith. Some of us also have found real faith. I think the thing about this forum and the reason it's so popular is that all who seek support and fellowship here have lost faith in an organization who set itself up in the place of Jesus Christ and by doing so profaned his Holy name. So yes I guess I have lost faith, faith in promises that didn't materialize, prophecies that never came true (1975 and Generation of 1914) but that I was fully expected to beleive in. Yes Scottsman, I'm sorry I lost my faith in those things and the Organization they came from. But at least for me there is some good news, the Apostle Paul also lost faith in an organization he spoke about it in Phippians the 3rd chapter and summed it up in verse 8 "What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ" (NWT highlighting mine) seek2find

Miranda for the fader
by changeling inthere 's been a lot said on this board lately about revealing our feelings and doubts to friends, family, and that "reasonable elder".
well, i just wanted to share something with you guys.. a while back, i had what i thought was an innocent conversation with someone very near and dear to me.
all was calm and rational, questions were asked in a spirit of wanting to understand.

I've experianced the same thing many times. I've concluded that their is no way to say anything negative about the organization to those who are 100 percent on board. Everything and anything you say can and will be used against you and will be shot down by the one you are talking to. Loyalty to the organazation is prioty number 1. seek2find

Really, What's So Wrong With The Jehovah's Witness Religion To You?
by minimus inis it that bad??
is it worse than fundamentalists of every other sort?
are jws worse than radical muslims?

Some of the post on this thread and this board in general, dramaticaly illustrate why the JW religion is bad. The real root of the problem is this. They encourage people to build their faith in an organization, rather that to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. So as a result when faith in the organization collapses the person is so badly burned they don't trust anything or anyone. They sometimes lose faith in God and stop beleiving in him, when he wasn't the real problem, the organization was. I read a saying recently that describes many of Jehovah's Witnesses. It goes like this: "Some minds are like concrete. Completely mixed up and permantely set." Real danger exist within the JW beleif system because in a way their thourly mixed up way of thinking encourages suicide. How many times have we all heard a witness say the following after a non-witness relative dies. "Oh well at least now we will see him in the resurection" So the same thinking is extended to the individual witness that if he or she dies before amageddon they will be resurected. So when depression hits and life seems to be unbearable they get to thinking, "maybe God will forgive me if I kill myself and resurect me, but if I get killed in armageddon, I won't have any hope. Maybe I should try option 1" I myself prefer a third option. Re-Building on the proper foundation that of faith in God through Jesus Christ alone who said "I am the way the truth and the life" seek2find

question. urgent.
by DeusMauzzim inthe situation: a friend of mine was df'ed recently.
i live with my mom, who is still active.. my mom told me that this friend couldn't come around anymore now.. i said that i had already figured that out, because she would be dfed if she kept contact with him, so she could do nothing else but follow the rules of the borg.. she responded that this was not so, that this was her personal choice ('out of love') :s. just to be sure.. we all know this is crap, right?
examples, quotes, please!.

I think it varies as to where you are and the attitude of the local elders. Although there is suppose to be unity, in the real world there are elders that are super strict, and others super liberal. Whether your Mom would be disfellowshipped depends on the local body and how strict they are. seek2find

What was your 1st Deception as a JW?
by JH inwas was the first thing that really decieved you, in your jw years?.
was it the way you were treated, or maybe a teaching that deceived you ?.
i think my 1st deception was when they said that the resurrected ones wouldn't be allowed to get married in the new system.. then i wondered why ???

I 've been a JW all my life, so I don't know which one was first, but the biggest (for me) deception is 2 fold. That is the teaching that the faithfull men of old Abraham, Moses and David, ect will not be in heaven but will always be on Paradise earth. The other part of the same deception is that there was only 144,000 true Christians from Jesus day till 1935. Especially when Acts mentions that thousands were being added daily. seek2find
