okay, what's the deal with the smurfs?
i've heard mention here and there about some 80s rumours regarding demonized smurfs (or something) that got jws in a panic.
i remember when i was a kid my aunt telling my mother about smurf dolls with blood on them walking around, i think.
After 18 years out of the dubs, I'm still scared to death of smurfs! At an assembly in the 80's we heard all kinds of "demon possessed" smurf stories...one smurf bit a baby at the Hall, one ran down someone's stairs screaming, one shook a little girl's bed...one smurf started screaming when a brother tried to burn it...it was so scary! As ridiculous as it sounds it was traumatizing as a young child hearing all of these scary stories.

if you are da'd or df'd and an elder from your former hall ran into you in public and tried to engage you in conversation, what would you do.
would you talk to them or shun them as the rank and file are required to you.
i would walk away without even acknowledging their existence.
I'd probably say, "It's been a long, d*mn time! How the h*ll are ya, *sshole?...

they are a lying, unaccountable organization - with an emphasis on the word unaccountable!

i have a big problem remembering my childhood.
it gets quite frustrating sometimes.
every so often i get a flashback to a memory but only by triggers, usually smell.
I have the same problem...I was in 18 years, out 18 years..have had very little memory of my childhood..but being here and reading the posts on various topics, especially about assemblies and field service has helped me remember more.
Both of my younger sister's memories seem to be pretty clear...

ok, if any of you have read the other thread about ghosts, you will remember that i dont care too much for them!
just a few minutes ago my daugter told me she had a weird one last night here in the house, where i have never had a problem.
she was in the bathroom brushing her teeth, and "one "of the holders on the counter that are all made of heavy glass, started shaking back and forth like crazy.

Although it may or may not have been your grandfather that made the cup shake, your grandfather is obviously around you. If the thought of him popped into your head...he's making his presence known to you.
It took me a long time to get past the "demon" issue I was taught. I am now really open to many different things and possibilities. If I were you I would simply ask your grandfather if he's around you (which I'm sure he is) and see what kind of response you get. If your too scared to try this, he will sense that and leave you alone.

Well the point of my strategy was to try to avoid those "tricky" little ways they will have of indoctrinating the kids. Is there something my above described strategy does not cover.
One particular problem I see is that you mentioned that your wife believes what the jws teach....in that case, she believes that those who do not follow the ways of the jws will be destroyed in armageddon ... wouldn't that mean you?
I think that any person who truly believes this teaching would fight like heck to keep their family from dying in armageddon.
I do think you're in a position of power being that you are the "head of the household" but that does not give you authority over what your wife is taught by the jws or what she feels or believes to be true.
Just my two cents, I guess.

I was born and raised a jw...until I was 18. I left when I turned 18, for many reasons but especially because my parents drilled it into my head that everything I did as a child would reflect back onto them in Jehovah's eyes.
They would sit with us (my two sisters and me) and have these "family meetings" and tell us how they were scared sometimes because of some of the things we did (stupid things like accidentially swear or say something mean or rude to someone...little things...) and they would tell us, If armageddon came tomorrow they didn't know if they would get to live in the "new system" based upon the things WE had done. Since we were little kids everything that we did NOW would effect THEM in the END. Now, that is a terrible, awful way to grow up!
My point is this...BE CAREFUL! Witnesses are VERY tricky. I would hate for you to get "sucked" in and then have to raise your children the JW way. I think you already can sense that they have their "ways" to get someone involved. I think it's wonderful that you are putting your children first in your life...Don't compromise them, stay strong.
TRUST ME when I say...It's a horrible way to be raised.
