i come and go a lot from this board but i do find that some people have an un-healthy obsession/dependance on this board and take things too personally. its a anonymous message board people, 90% of the time people try to be nice and helpful, the rest of the time who cares, its a message board.

The JWD stigma about being "nice"
by changeling ini'm back from a little jwd break and i'm happy to see that things are not as volatile as when i left.
however, some things never change.
and one thing that seems to be a constant around here is the mentality of some very intelligent and knowledgeble ones (in their own minds at least) that if you are "nice" you are some how emotionally needy and/or not too bright.. i don't think the "happy people" on the board have anything against people with high iq's.

4 the Faders. How did u get out leading the cong in prayer while fading?
by blkblk13 ini've always had serious doubts but now that i am @ a point in my life were my parents have helped me to purchase my first place and now that i am no longer under their wing i feel like i am in a position to start doing something about it.
nothing drastic but just the beginnings of a gradual fade b/c i don't want to humiliate them in the circuit b/c they r very well-known and admired in the circuit, plus i owe them alot and am still a little financially dependent on them.
so my dad is an elder and conducts the bookstudy.

my dad used to do the exact same thing to me, not to keep from fading, i think to encourage me though. i don't remember what i would say but it was pretty generic and i would rush through it

My intruction on JWD. Hi!
by easyreader1970 ini posted this in my profile but since i've never formally introduced myself, i thought i would print it here as well as my official "hello" message.
i am currently an active jw.
i don't want to be but the situation i am in doesn't allow me to do anything differently.

unless you cheat your wife is not allowed to leave you so i suggest just fading away, doesn't sound like you have many JW friends anyway since you are considered weak. your wife might even surprise you and come around.

Interesting Book Study Stories
by Ex-smoker inwith the news that the book study arrangement might be going away, alot of memories come flying back.
we used to have the study in our house for a couple of years and every week we had to clean our messy house so that it would look spic and span that night.
the cleaning sweeping, doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom, and vacuming it was such a pain.

@Layla - i was in a spanish congregation so I don't think it was the same one. @Ex-Smoker - that reminds me one of the worst consequences of getting baptized at age 12 for me was that for the next 4 years until i started fading i was stuck doing the prayer at the bible study or was in the running anyway, usually there were only 3-4 baptized bros including my dad and i.

I know of a family who's house was robbed by a teenager who stole a spare key while at the bookstudy. He broke in on a meeting night when he knew no one would be home.
We had an old guy who always wore his pants to high and he was the reader so he was facing everyone, well his prostate enlarged balls were visible to everyone, it was disgusting.

Emotional Reactions to the Loss of the Book Study
by DT ini think the loss of the book study will hit some like a death of a friend.
it will mark the end of an era.
it will forever change the religion of jehovah's witnesses and i believe the change is completely irreversible.. of course, most witnesses will be delighted by this.

i think you guys are over-estimating the impact. the happiest people will be the homeowners who don't have to worry about having their house spotless and setting up chairs, cleaning up after people's bratty kids, hiding the good china. i'm sure there are a lot of horror stories people have about their house getting trashed, things stolen, etc.

Meeting schedule rearranged...WHY?
by sir82 inofficial speculation thread.... even if a reason is given for the meeting rearrangement when it is announced on 4/27, we all know how the society spins things (e.g., awake magazine being reduced to one issue per month to "put more emphasis on the bible" real reason.. .
so why is the society doing this?
on the surface, it seems to be a loosening of control.

I would have loved this when i was a kid because all the cool kids attended a different BS, since my dad is an elder we had ours at my house, boring.

Elder confirms "changes are ahead" but did not elaborate
by truthseeker inthe elder conducting the wt study said that changes were imminent but did not elaborate so unless someone spills the beans between now and next week, i guess we'll all have to wait.. right now we have three possibilities:.
1) the meetings are being restructured - rumors suggest that the congregation book study may no longer be held at private homes.
however, if they are held at kingdom halls, this will have significant impact on congregations that already share a kingdom hall.. it has been suggested that most announcments are made at the service meeting and i concur, but if this is a restructuring of meetings, then it would make sense to announce this on a sunday as the public would be present and the handbills will have to change.. if the book study stays perhaps it will be conbined with the school and service meeting with a question and answer review of the material with no paragraphs read.. .

i bet its something stupid like a new publication, tract probably, that works for a sunday. either that or a mass suicide ritual. pass the kool aid.
