I was Catholic when I converted to Jehovah's Witnesses in my teens. But the concept of heaven actually revolted me. Everyone programmed and flying around on wings. I was very attracted to the idea of paradise earth -- until I began to realize as James Woods so interestingly commented, the inconsistencies which filled my mind in my latter years as a Witness and disillusioned me. I still like the concept. I just can't believe it.

How Many Of You?
by justsomedude inhow many of you, when you were an active and zealous jw (assuming you were), were motivated by the paradise idea?
i was basically born in, so i wasn't drawn to the religion, it just was.. the whole idea of the paradise never really exicted me though.
i followed the religion and did what i did because i just believed it was the right thing to do and not so i could obtain the carrot on the end of the string.. how many of you felt the same way?

What did you do with your literature when you left?
by ontarget inwhat did you do with your literature when you left?
i burned my literature except for the wt cd which i sold on ebay.
i did not want to just throw the literature away as i did not want the trash man to read it and become a witness.

I kept all of mine from the '60's to the '90's. Then this summer I gradually began to throw them away.....little by little, 'til all I have left is about a dozen WT magazines. It was hard to do; the literature had been such a part of my life.

Do you feel 'Disconnected' since leaving the borg?
by AK - Jeff ini mean - many of us had a history that was exclusively in the 'truth'.
nothing else.. now having left, do you long for a discussion with some who share your past culture, understandings, and lifestyle?.
is that the 'appeal' of this board to many?

Yes, 'fraid I do at times. Such an empty feeling comes over me and I want to run to a meeting to reconnect. The feeling is diminishing with time.

Nice post Tetra. I found this line from your post especially moving.
i tried to re-experience that type of anguish that only lurkers, and people who are still JWs experience when they are all alone, but know it's not the truth anymore.
