I had doubts for years, then I came on this board and it substantiated my doubts with facts and that was it for me.

I'd like to introduce myself
by Alpheta ini'm "alpheta".
i've been reading here for the past few weeks, but have visited from time to time over several years.. short history, i started studying in 1993, was baptised in 1996, and succinctly and with much planning disassociated myself in october, 2003.. i don't believe i have any lasting psychological damage or issues, but i was curious about the state of the wtbts (or whatever they go by these days), and i found your site and a lot of information that, i have to say, i found shocking at first like - oh my goddess, they really did that?
- kind of thing.. anyway, nice to have read your posts and i really enjoy the sense of community here.

Soothe Sayings
by MsMcDucket inafter reading john walsh's post, it made me think of things that my mother used to say, like:.
what you do in the dark will come to light!.
everything that is known in not told, and everything that's shiny is not gold!.

What false beliefs do worldly people have of the JW's?
by JH in.
when you went out door to door, or just talking with non jw friends or family, what false beliefs did some have of the jw's?.
-

The worldly people I've met don't know much about Jehovah's Witnesses; think they are holy rollers (pentacostal) or just odd.

Extro or Intro? and Why do you think that is?
by Crumpet ini've noticed a few people on here saying that they don't mix well or prefer not to - there's a particular bird avatar i have in mind and its not the emu but the name escapes me (w?).
i'm interested to know if since you left the borg you find yourself extrovert or introvert?
what effect did your upbrining have?
-

When I first left JW's I was extroverted, wild and crazy. Making up for lost time. The past two years I settled down and have become interoverted. I was extremely introverted as a child--probably because of my upbringing with dysfunctial alcoholic parents and relatives.

Questions -
by Agent Socrates inthe socratic method is a teaching tool.
the practice involves asking a series of questions surrounding a central issue, and answering questions of the others involved.
generally this involves the defense of one point of view against another and is oppositional.

Welcome to the board, Agent. Independent thinking is discouraged. Questioning during a personal bible study is encouraged as long as the questions stay within the boundary of the paragraph of the book you are studying. One can stray slightly from the topic but often Witness will say they have to stay on the subject.

Welcome, Rob.
I'm an Ex JW. Was DF'd, tried reinstatement but couldn't dismiss my doubts so I ended up here where I no longer have any doubts; my suspicions of the WTS and its rank and file have been substantiated.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Who else is living in a "Sauna"
by JH in.
it's hot 85f and very humid 95% right now.....ewwww so uncomfortable.. i don't recall seeing such a humid summer.......it must be the end.....

Here! It has been 98 degrees and humid for several days and the last two including today are 101 with a haze that is suffocating. I do have one window air conditioner which I have been in front of for how long I can't remember. Opening the door to the outside feels like opening the door to a blast furnace. Leaving the air conditioned room into any other area of the house feels the same. And, it is making me out of sorts. I wonder why people get hostile when they are overheated but I have never heard of hostility or aggression caused by cold weather. I feel like I am going to get into a fist fight with the first person I encounter.
I have to use public transportation (MTA bus) and transfer to another bus. The buses are not air conditioned and packed to capacity with people having to stand during their daily trek. Consequently, I have not been to work this week. So the heat is costing me money as well as extreme discomfort. I really must give credit and admiration to people who live in the south where this is probably the norm all summer. They have to be hardy souls. I am doing my best to endure it 'til the weekend when it is supposed cool down to a mere 90 degrees.
I'll be happy as hell when this summer is over.
