For me it was the Michael Jackson scandal in he '80's when he launched his first hits and I found out he was a JW. Any organization that disfellowships its members for dancing as he did but allowed him to be a member because of his notoriety and money had to be wrong. Then, just recently the NGO WBTS scandal.

What was the "last drop" which made you to leave JW organization?
by Lehtiveli inthis is a littlebit of quiz but still worth of talking.
so, what was the last thing which made you think that jw's are not "the truth"?
i'm trying to collect things, which are crucial points for jw beliefs so i can write something about all of those things.

PETA Protest Backfires
by Stephanus inhttp://www.gjsentinel.com/news/content/news/stories/2006/05/18/5_18_1a_kfc_protest.html
a human inside an injured-chicken costume, hobbling in protest on the sidewalk wednesday in front of a kentucky fried chicken restaurant, didnt achieve the desired effect, according to many who dined there.. brad steig called wednesdays protest in grand junction by the people for the ethical treatment of animals good advertising for kfc.. the protest consisted of four adults and one child holding signs in front of the restaurant, handing out fliers and dvds and urging people to not eat at kfc until the restaurant buys chickens from humane vendors.. steig, a manager for halliburton, said he heard about the peta protest on the radio and decided right then to eat at kfc on wednesday, the day of the protest.. not only that, but he bought seven of the biggest buckets of chicken and all the side dishes and used four trips to load them into his halliburton pickup to treat his co-workers.
i don't know if there's an "ultimate" right-wingers' fantasy, but collecting 7 buckets of fried chicken in a halliburton pick-up in front of a peta protester must come pretty close.

To Stephanus, Breakfast at Cranberry's and Sad Emo:Thanks for the posts. Don't know what to say at this point. What you have posted is a shock to me. I will henceforth withhold my contributions to PETA. I was unable to search the links Stephanus posted as my AOL kept giving me error messages but I will attempt it again today.
I suppose it is my naivete in idealizing animal rights groups. I do believe what you have posted is factual. I probably would not consider any of it were it not for the fact that we all come from the same place, namely, the WBTS and it is this alone which has given me reason for reconsideration of my beliefs. You have had experience in your local areas--which I have not. So, forgive me if I ranted for a cause which was one-sided without equal consideration of the other side. (An old Watchtower conditioning which I still haven't been able to discard.)
Peace to all.

Hi Juni,
Thanks for responding in a civilized manner, although I must say your first post made me laugh out loud (about the minks). I visualized all these critters running around.
You sound very sensible about the subject. I do agree that there are extremists in all walks of life and the animal rights activists I knew were really obsessed. I never felt completely comfortable with them but I did admire their courage. My affiliation with the group was minimal because of it. I am surprised that PETA has allegedly committed the crimes they are charged with and I have no reason to doubt what you tell me. What I am reading on this forum about PETA is unsettling to me.
I never had anyone insult me when I went door to door though I'd heard many horror stories of what happened to others.
Anyway, thanks for the information. I will be doing some researching on PETA.

Stephanus: For more humane treatment of animals. As society gets wealthier, we can afford to become kinder and more informed on how to make life better for the animals we depend upon in our day to day existence. Yes, for the reason above stated. I am no longer involved in the animal rights movement but I still have compassion for mistreated animals. To stop people eating animals altogether? No. We were there to inform the public of commercial farming of animals. To stop people having pets and companion animals? Nope. I have a dog and a cat. To stop all co-existence between people and animals? No. have you seen the "Your Daddy Kills Animals" propaganda comic? The "argument", if you can call it that, is that a dad that fishes is perfectly capable of killing his kids' puppies and kitties, just because he's so addicted to killing. No....haven't seen that one. Sounds a bit sensationalist. I May 22, 2006 -

I have been reading the posts pro and con PETA. Stephanus' posts have given me reason to further research the subject. Personally, I side with Kate and Insomniac and even though I am an almost vegetarian, I don't believe I dislike people because I like animals. Every propagandist against PETA has used that ploy.
Although I have never protested for or with PETA there are local animal rights groups I have protested with and I will say this for animal rights activists whether PETA or others: It takes a hell of a lot of guts to be a minority on a downtown city street with truck drivers screaming "why don't you get a real f......g job" than it ever did when I was a Witness proseletyzing door to door. With a householder it was just one on one.
It seems the animal rights issue can be is as highly charged as religion. With animal rights activists there's no disguising what you are there for.

The DaVinci Code -- overreaction or a chance to rumble?
by cruzanheart inhere's an excerpt from a bbc.co.uk article i just read:.
"the holy koran recognises jesus as a prophet.
what the book says is an insult to both christians and muslims," maulana mansoor ali khan, general secretary of the all-india sunni jamiyat-ul-ulema, told the reuters news agency.

I also read the book and just saw the movie yesterday. I thought it was very entertaining; having been a Catholic before I became one of Jehovah's Witnesses probably made the movie more appealing to me than most of the public. Sort of like being on the outside looking in for a change.

Alternative Medicine
by kazar indoes anyone know if there is any truth to the following claim?.
"jehovah's witnesses who refuse blood transfusions have been saved by hyperbaric oxygen chambers.
their limited blood supply became saturated with oxygen and the hypoxia (lack of oxygen) was removed.".

Thanks, Blondie. This is the first I've heard of this procedure for JW's refusal of blood.
