I'm truly sorry. I understand. My dad threw me away and as a result my son does not know his grandson. Why wouldn't he want a relationship with his grandchild??? That's the question that keeps me awake.

I feel my faith is weakening

i am in that stage and i feel as if i'm seeking out the ttatt.
i feel the wt society is hiding way too much.

Brother Mike - I recall coming across these types of sites many years ago when I had no doubts at all. I believed strongly! I was in my early twenties at the time so we are talking fifteen years ago or about that.
I wasn't ready - I put it to the side. But when I was ready I knew it, and everything I read came back to me. It prompted me to read more and when i did fade I knew I had made the right decision. I also had a strong network of non Jehovah's Witness friends. I can't stress how important it is to you to build those networks now. And be prepared to be the freak of the group for a while whilst you learn social niceties. Trust me, what is acceptable behaviours amongst the JWs can seem increcibly weird and peculiar to non JWs.
you will know when you are ready. But read, ask questions, make friends. I also found being a member of this forum highly therapuetic as I worked through a lot of emotions and growing up.
I wish you all the very best and hope that you will find genuine happiness sooner rather than later.

"I'm thinking of getting reinstated just so I can get my family back."
by Julia Orwell inthis was just said to me by a friend who was disfellowshipped just over 2 years ago.
she just had a miscarriage, and her partner dumped her rather than supported her through this process.
she told her jw parents, and they refuse to even call her or offer her any emotional support.

I don't know how hard core her family is but I have seen this happen many times, people get reinstated to establish connections back with their family and they continue to have very limited, to the point of shunning, contact until they are 100% certain this person has chosen the witnesses again for pure motives. I have witnessed that this kind of behaviour can average from 1 - 2 years.
I would advise this to your friend if you can, it would be even more devestating to put herself through the pain of reinstatement only to be continued to be treated so poorly.
My good wishes to your friend that she will recover from her miscarriage swiftly.

JW religion is not all that bad really
by veen ini know we all have issues with the borg, but really i think there are far more despicable religions on the go, namely american style evangelical christianity.
i'm watching a film called 'jesus camp' as i type and all i can say is any of you idiots who post on here who say you left the jw's and have now found jesus are totally retarded.
you really need to get a grip on reality and stop needing religion as a crutch.

Dear Veen
Not all Christian groups are the same. That video you are watching is extreme and I disagree with it completely. I think you find a lot of Christians would.
Your post is very agressive and hostile. Perhaps you could tone it down.

To the Christians...
by VoidEater into the christians on the board:.
thank you for living up to the best your beliefs have to offer.
with very few exceptions, my flailings and rantings as i refine my own "truth" have been greeted with patience and kindness, or kindly ignored.. i do not foresee that i will ever return to a belief system that you hold dear, yet i do respect your beliefs - and appreciate your insights.

I think I'm going to throw up!
Quite a few of the 'Christians' on this site are intolerant, judgmental and narrow minded.
Gladiator surely you would agree that it's always the stand out minority who make the majority look bad. Perhaps there are a few christians who post on JWD who are as you have described. However there are a lot who are nothing like that.
Try to recall the ones that don't behave in a manner that induces you to vomit!

What do you think fellow posters think of you?

Perhaps they might think: MissPeaches... what the hell is she doing back here?
Restrangled: there may be a minority on the board that don't agree with you. But that is their issue not yours. That's something that always happen on a discussion board as well. Don't you stress about them.

Have I become like those I despise?
by Hortensia inwell, yes, as a matter of fact.
i have become a desperate, needy, clingy burden on my friends, so depressed i don't know what to do.
every day i say, pull up your socks, put one foot in front of the other.

(((Hortensia)))
Sometimes we feel so unhappy and we think to ourselves, "My problems are minor in the big scheme. I've no right to feel so depressed". And we begin to hate ourselves and our feelings so much... All of a sudden feeling unhappy begins to escalate into something even bigger and more challenging.
It is OKAY to feel down. It is OKAY to feel dissatisfied with the cards life is dealing you. It is OKAY to vent your feelings, to get angry about things. Keep telling us how your feeling!
Here's something that might help you first work out what upsets you and then start working on how you can manage the situations... Every time you feel yourself beginning to become upset, think about what led up to you feeling that way. Write it down, then give it a rating from 0 - 10 (0 being minor 10 being major). After a while you will see a pattern emerge. Tackle those big issues first.
Hang in there. Your loved here.

Witness Kids - Scared silly by the WTBTS
by misspeaches ini wonder if anyone else who grew up as a jw can relate with me on this subject.. i grew up hearing stories of 'faithful brothers & sisters' being tortured to a point where they were almost dead.
all they had to do to be set free was renounce jehovah and their religon.
the stories i heard of torture were graphic in nature and to this day i can not handle hearing about torture or watch it being portrayed in movies.

Hi JohnnyC and welcome. Thanks for your input. I am going to have to respectfully disagree with your comment:
wouldn't characterize it as if WTBTS makes this part of their 101 on raising children.
From my perspective the mere fact that the WTBTS expects all family members, regardless of age, to study the same material and attend the same meetings they are deliberately encouraging people to rear children and expose them to horror stories.
I do however agree with the remainder of your post and feel you make some very important observations.

What Was The Silliest "Offense" That You Were Counseled For?
by minimus inwhen i was a teenager, i was told by an elder that because i smiled a lot and was known for my good sense of humor, that i should come across as "more serious".
so before i was appointed a ms, while in my late teens, i transformed myself into a much more "serious" brother.. were you ever told that you needed to work on something that you knew was stoopid?.

oh goody! I love these threads..!
It's a toss up between these two for me:
- We had a MS wannabe elder in the congregation who was very tall. I got in trouble by the elders. Apparently he'd gone to them and explained that from his height he felt he could see too much of my bosom/cleavage whatever and he felt that it was distracting him... Mind you this same dude used to be an elder until he shagged a pioneer and got relegated to publisher... Going by his track record one would think that it's not me who was in the wrong but possibly him. What a perve!
- I got in trouble when a stupid little fool in the congregation confessed to the elders that I had touched his earlobe! He wanted to get baptised and felt that I had corrupted him somehow or other and it needed to be addressed. WTF???
