  HATING JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES

  from what i have gathered, you all were once jw's and now hate them or the organization?

  do you still believe in jehovah and love jehovah?

  i have to admit i dont like, actually i rather dislike, some of the sisters in my congregation and i know that's wrong of me, but some of them really think they are better than me and are quite judgemental.

  A WARM WELCOME.

  There are all kinds of people on this forum. I have never been a JW but am studying with an elder. My lifelong friends are newly baptised JWs.

  They have turned from loving caring people to those full of fear and hate. I hope to point them in the right direction, away from the falsehood they have been deceived by, and to show them the real difference between JWs and Chistianity. It is not possible in my view to be both. Christians find it possible through Christ to let go of hate and fear.

  If only JWs would read the gospel of John, perhaps in secret (because JWs teach the New Testament is not for non-anointed JWs) to see who and what Jesus really is and how God and his Son really want us to spend our lives.

  Please stick around, its good to have new faces here.

  Twin Towers\ Armageddon

  hey all this may have been mentioned before.

  i was thinking last night about when the twin towers fell and i remembered thinking how close armageddon must be did anybody else think similar....i guess it would only apply to those who were still in the borg at the time es

  Everytime somethinmg happens that prompts people to think it is a sign of Armageddon, the more sure I am that it is not. In reality, if we believe th Bible and what it really teaches, then we should have no basis for believing something symbolically called Armageddon is near at all. It might be, but that is not what the Bible indicates.

  question about the last genaration

  with 2014 only 9 years a way...how could it be one genaration to the great trib....am i off on this or does it seem the dubs have missed this one too...what is there explation???

  Yes, I have just remembered the elder I studied with showed me the scripture about after the flood and said thats when God capped the lifespan of men at 120 years!

  The next day I read about people after Noah living for 900 yeas etc so was confused by his comment. They wouldnt change their teaching back to give a limit to a generation, would they?

  You probably know that so many of us get depressed, even those of us who were never a JW.

  So never think you are alone, even if people dont know what to say to you at times.

  Jaredg Well, firstly the book doesnt really teach, as much as try to explain what the Bible teaches. The author is a Christian, but non Christians should not let that put them off, really, this should exclude no one! The common wrong understanding of the Bible is what the author believes leads many people to the conclusion that it is not relevant today. He believes the Bible is inspired by God, but God-breathed rather than God -dictated, this based on the Bibles own teaching. I dont know whether he believes the Bible to be the only collection of holy writings as that question may go beyond the scope of the book. His critique is aimed at many Christian religions, but could well be applied to JWs. Issues include interpreting Biblical teaching about:

  • the coming of Christ in glory
  • salvation
  • evil & divine love
  • sin & grace
  • the sacrifice of Jesus
  • resurrection
  • judgement, heaven, hell
  • moral law

  It combines the Bible and religion with science, mysticism, cosmology, world religions. It goes one step beyond Ray Franz in exposing all cults and many so called Bible based religions for erroneous biased teaching, enev those that have the basics right. It is far more exciting that I have just made it sound.

  I have read a lot since then, but for me personally, the most influential ones (you remember where you were when you first read them, and had to go back to them) were:

  • The Bible
  • Brief History of Time (Stephen Hawking)
  • The Elegant Universe (Bryan Green)
  • In Search of Christian Freedom (Ray Franz)

  I can add to that list today:

  • What the Bible Really Teaches: a challenge for fundamentalists (Keith Ward)

  Not the easiest book to read, but what a fresh and radical look at the facts. Ward argues that if we interpret the Bible using the best Bible Commentaries, and using correct scholarly methods and principles, then we will be surprised (shocked) at what the Bible teaches about itself and so many other things close to all our hearts. He argues that free of religious spin, it often teaches the exact opposite of what people generally believe. I intend to post some articles for discussion on some of the points it makes. It has strengthened my faith, because I now have a better understanding of so many things in the Bible I found hard to accept, everything from subjection of women, to Armageddon and Revelation. For the first time I am fairly sure there is no Biblical reason to believe that we are living in the last days.
