  Do they really know what they claim to know?

  everyone in the religious field, it turns out, has relevant expertise.

  yet there is prodigious diversity and complexity of religious thought and practice.

  why God won't can't or just doesn't care to end all of the confusion.

  We may both end up athiests.

  I don't think we will ever be able to answer these questions, which seem to assume that God is a kind of Being like a person, but with superhuman powers, and which operates in spacetime like we do, making choices and decisions etc.

  People are all different, and seem to reach different levels of understanding, enlightenment and experience, or not, through such as mysticism, religion, science, etc. For me science and Christianity gets me closest, but not without doubts.

  Perhaps the common attempts to interpret the nature of God from face-value Bible reading are mistaken, and lead to the type of questions posed by this thread. Perhaps our questions in our minds are somehow the wrong approach?

  I believe Jesus Christ was real and was special, but why did he always speak in metaphor, parables, symbolism and hyperbole. But that does not make his words false, even though he was often misunderstood, even by NT authors.

  I always found it hard to reconcile the Bible with science, and the Bible with itself, but reconciled a lot of my questions and doubts this summer unexpectedly whilst reading what I expected to be an orthodox Christian source. I'm almost embarassed to say it was something of a Eureka moment, when I no longer had to apologise to myself for having seemingly conflicting beliefs. The jig-saw started to fit, although I'm not sure I have all the pieces!

  did the wt gestapo finally get wind of his hijinks at the conventions and pressure mommy to take him down?

  Birthdays?? Good explaination...please??

  i would love it if someone out there could clarify for my stubborn brain just why birthdays are forbidden??

  for the life of me, and i was a witness for over 30 years, i still can't wrap my brain around that issue.

  i need something more than the two accounts 'gone wrong' and pagen, in the bible.

  Why did Christ appoint a religion in 1919 as the FDS who were pagan, by the JWs definition? ie birthdays, xmas, the cross, pyramids, masonic symbols, false prophecies....

  It was essential during Rutherford's era to come up with teachings, biblical or otherwise, to put a gulf between JWs and all other Christians. It was essential that they create as stark a THEM & US illusion as possible.

  New Light?

  i have looked up the scripture (in its proper context).

  firstly, it does not even mention "new light" at all!

  secondly, who can read the whole chapter and honestly say this is about god's progressive revelation of informaton to an organisation appointed by jesus to teach people truth in the last days?.

  i am desperate to get the book coc into the hands of my daughter and her husband, just trying to find a way.. it got me thinking i wonder how many active jws could read that book and still stay in the org ?.

  it had such an impact on my life and others i know.

  i had never even heard of such a book.

  Someone on this board (JW) claimed to have read it and stayed in - said it made him stronger in the org. But there were definately clues that he had not truly read it. But I would not call him a liar unless I was sure.

  The return of Jesus Acts 1v11, 3v19-21

  the following appears to teach the literal return of jesus in visible form to this earth.

  how do jehovah witnesses view this verse, and the emphasis of the various phrases (in bold) ?.

  acts 1:11 (kjv): "which also said, ye men of galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?

  Warm welcome to the board. I'll study the scriptures later, not used to KJV lately and I find it hard to read.

  I don't think you'll find many J Witnesses on this board, but they'll no doubt disagree, or more likely ignore a question that seems to prove their doctrines false.

  Why did none of the authors of the Greek Christian scriptures ever use any form of the Tetragrammaton in the New Testamant?

  Defd, Are you brave enough to check some J-references for me in your Kingdom Interlinear? My ordered copy has not yet arrived. This is a serious challenge that will lead to the truth about the Divine name in Greek Christian scriptures.

  So the WTS was teaching darkness before and is now teaching light? They pass it off on Jehovah revealing His truths in His due time

  JWs describe other religions teachings as:

  • falsehoods
  • false doctrines
  • false prophecies
  • pagan doctrines
  • false religious views etc etc

  When they are guilty of these things the language changes to:

  • past truths
  • old truths
  • cherished errors
  • views in need of refinememnt
  • misplaced optimism
  • serious disappointments
