But arent you just a bit jealous of people like this who are so sure that their version of truth is indeed truth. Such certainty must be nice for a while. Who said ignorance is bliss? Were you ever happy as a JW 'knowing' that you had the truth. I bet many of you have been in Hibs shoes... no?
I learn more truth when I am quiet and listening than when I am spouting off, so I'll shut up now (I learned this from z on a post last week)

You mentioned sacrifice. You have just illustrated how fundamentalists do not understand the meaning of sacrifice throughout scriptures. Have you studied the work of Christian and other experts in this field? Evidently not. Can I recommend a good Bible commentary?

You are just quoting the same scriptures that others preached at them for years and turned out to be liars. The same scriptures. Perhaps you should try a different tack. I dont think you ever mention the central teaching of the Bible ie Christianity and Love. Have you ever read and thought about the spiritual meaning of John's gospel. You only seem to see the literal and superficial side of everything. If you love Christ in order to be saved, then that is sad and unBiblical and unChristian, can I interest you in a Watchtower magazine?
What did Jesus say was the law and the prophets? Do you understand the enormity of that revolutionary statement?

I am following with what the bible is saying not my favourite verses
This is just another assertion, not backed up by evidence and argumentation. For every verse you quote someone can quote another that seems to say the opposite, so how do we discern which is true?

The Lord is not? willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9HibGood one, you are catching on to Bible study instead of selective Bible reading. Ask yourself, if Gods will was to create this universe, some achievement, then can his will that no one should perish also be achieved by God? Now why not connect this with 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 and similar scriptures that many christians choose to ignore, like the ones I mentioned on about page 3 or 4 of this thread. Are you really following the Bible in a holistic way, or following your chosen denomination's collection of men's teachings?

I was in a similar, but not so bad, religion until my late teens. It has taken me 28 years to even feel like opening the Bible again. Ironically only through trying to warn someone against becoming a JW, did I study again. But in a completely different way. Another thing that led me back to belief is my studying science.

Well said Chia. Belief linked to fear of punishment or desire for reward in unChristian and unBiblical. That is what the Bible really teaches (for those who believe and understand it at a spiritual, not just literal level, learned from the holy spirit)

There are some fairly sound scholarly methods that Christians use to try to sort out which bits of the Bible are myth, history, symbolic, hyperbole etc. Did Jesus really mean for us to pluck out an eye if it causes us to sin. If you take too much literally, you will find contradiction upon contradiction, and you will be no better than JWs at deciding to accept and preach about only those parts that fit with your beliefs, and ignoring, rejecting or distorting those that do not.
