  Is the "new light" doctrine scriptural?

  i already heard one argument on this, that the scripture referred to (proverbs 4:18) in context was actually advice of a father to his son on how during his life he would continue to grow spiritually throughout his life.

  but a closer look shows that there is no mention at all of new light, in any context.

  it says "but the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly estblished" [analogy: from darkness of the night gradually to the full light of the day?].

  the foundation of the great apostasy was laid in the separation of a class (called clergy) from the church of believers in general... this was not done in a day, but gradually.

  those who had been chosen from their own number, by the various congregations, to minister, or serve them in spiritual things, gradually came to consider themselves a superior class.... next they felt it beneath their dignity to be elected by the congregations they were to serve...their councils ..came finally to decreeing what should be considered orthodox... this self exalted clergy, becoming more and more vain and boastful, finally concluded that they alone constituted the church, and that the laity... were not to be classed as joint heirs... to the promises of coming glory and honor and association with christ...

  memorial advice please?

  i've been invited to a memorial on thursday.

  i'm currently unsure of my beliefs (somewhere between agnostic and christian, with an interest in science).

  i have been baptised twice - catholic by sprinkling, and seventh day adventist by immersion - and have partaken of the bread & wine in both religions (although come to think of it, the catholic priest always kept the wine for himself).

  Been searching scriptures for "salvation"

  i?ve been given a nwt bible, but don't understand how jws believe as they do.

  why does the ?bible topics for discussion?

  include some issues, eg celebrating birthdays, that seem less important compared with the question of how to attain salvation.

  no one ever let their kids die

  my soon to be baptised friend has started talking to me since i said i might study with jws.

  he tells me some people really believe jws have let their kids die over the blood issue.

  i suggested that may have been the case in the past but he says it is all lies.

  i only became interested in jws because by lifelong best friend and his wife are soon to be baptized.

  at first this all seemed harmless and i noticed some positive changes in their lives.

  i have studied the bible & past watchtowers plus ray franz books for 5 months to dissuade them from the path they are on.
