HTTPS (SSL security) Now Available
by Simon ini've setup an ssl certificate so you can now use https to browse the site.
this creates an encrypted connection between your browser and the server which is more secure and prevents urls visited from being shown in router logs, content can't be eavesdropped etc.... there are also some performance benefits but they won't kick in until i make some more changes.. consider it experimental for now but at some point it will likely automatically redirect you to the secure version of a page.. you can try it by adding 's' to the http part of any address or just goto the home page and browse from there (some mixed content means you may not get the fully green https status in your browser just yet though).. let me know if you have any issues using the site..

I don't know if this is due to the https certificate, but I've tried posting a link under the new format, and my recipient gets a 401 error.
They are interested in the shunning inactives article, because lately they cannot get ahold of their 'in' family and they wondered why. They are not ready to join JWN, or I would direct them to your site.

Indiana "Religious Freedom" (right to discriminate)
by Simon insickening to see the photo of the religious zealots all stood around the governor signing into law the right for people to discriminate against others (gay, lesbian, trans-gender) based purely on religious dogma.. if religious people want those freedoms then the can't have it both ways - they cannot complain if *they* are discriminated against.. "sorry, we don't like zionists, get out".
"oh, it's some special mass and you can't work your shift?
you're fired!"..

Correct. It needs to be more focused, like a laser that can surgically cut the stupid out people that pass useless and bad laws like this.
You do realize that the junior Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, voted yea on the Federal law? How could a Constitutional scholar vote for such a law? How could soi disant 'stupid people' elect a man for the highest office in the nation who would support such a law? That is another issue altogether and not really germane to the history and scope of the laws, although perhaps it needs to be the focus of genuine outrage.
The key to the Federal law is a statutory right to practice your religion, free of government regulation except where necessary to serve a compelling government interest. The real question becomes what is compelling government interest? Interstate commerce?
Interestingly, in 1997 the Supreme Court ruled the Federal RFRA could not Constitutionally be applied to individual states. If states wanted to protect religious practice subject to the compelling interest test, they would have to do it themselves. This is the background to why states began enacting their own RFRAs. Again, State's interest is the question, and the free market will provide the answer, not lawsuits.

The misguided outrage over Indiana's RFRA is out of hand. Read the law and understand the history; reacting to the headlines is irresponsible and ignorant. RFRA is a current federal law introduced by Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and it passage in the Senate was virtually unanimous (only three nay votes) in 1993. President Clinton signed it into law.

No wonder this guy is retiring. He's a quacktivist judge, who may wind up having his ass handed to him in Federal Court for judicial misconduct.
I wonder what his view on the WTB&TS Pedophile Paradise might be?
Nathan, UCLA Law Professor Eugene Volokh's article in the WaPo (which I've linked above) tells me all I need to know in regards to his views.

joe134cd, not sure what you mean by being sorry for an elder who knew of the molestation accusations and did nothing to alert the authorities.

Van Gogh removed part of an ear when Gauguin made him feel stupid.
An ear, you say? Should have given him a finger instead.
I've got a mini meat grinder magnet with a working handle.
