perhaps i would.. struggeling with doubts of course, but going to the meetings and turning in 2 or 3 hours on my report every month like i used to.... what about you guys?

I started fading when I was about 22 because of the dysfunction all around me that I observed. As well, continuing "changes" in doctrine/policy by the GB told me that this particu;lar group of old men didn't know what God was thinking either.

It was years later that I bothered to google JW's on the web but even then only briefly for curiousity. Somebody mentioned this site to me last winter and I'm still amazed at what I didn't know about the org.'s history months later.

I feel compelled to use all this info. as ammunition in debates with JW relatives at the right time.

for me, it's mainly the money and the women, i suppose.. no, but seriously, i was thinking the other day about why i post here.

in september it will be two years since i left the organization.

i don't much care for doctrinal debates anymore, and i usually pass on threads that are concerned with he-said-she-said kind of stuff inside the organization.

since its publication in 1957, atlas shrugged has sold more than five million copies.

perhaps a measure of the book's continuing influence may be estimated from the results of a survey conducted jointly by the library of congress and book-of-the-month club in 1991. the survey asked readers which books had made a difference in people's lives.

the results found atlas shrugged placing second only to the bible.

I've got one of her books in one of my boxes (will dig it out later.) I checked out her institute's site the other night but was looking for a more critical biography . My initial impression wasn't promising but I'll persevere a little more to give her a fair shake.

How Canadian is this?

Two Canadian bowlng teams are on tour in London, England. One from Nova Scotia and one from Newfoundland. Both teams decide to go on a double-decker bus tour of the city.

The Nova Scotians take the lower deck and all the Newfie's take the top deck. The Nova Scotians get blind drunk, partying like it's 1999 until one team member suddenly realizes he can't hear a sound from the top deck. He goes up to investigate and finds all the Newfie's pale with fear, with white knuckles clutching their seats muttering Hail Mary's.

The Nova Scotian asks the nearest one, "What's wrong? We're having a great time!" To which the Newfie replied, "yeah, well at least you guys have a driver!"

WELCOME to the forum Petruska.

I found the site this past February and I was amazed about how much I didn't know (I was a lifer too!) about "my" organization. You'll find many people here with the same living challenges (socialization was very hard for me when I "left" too). It does help to realize that there are so many humans experiencing the same problems that my sibs and I face (even after all these years).

There are lot's of intelligent posters here and it's a great learning environment so read away and don't worry about your English.

As I posted, I've never really read any of her work (though I'm going to try given your strong recommendation). What I meant is I tend to avoid these types of authors in general. So I am talking a bit out of my hat in regards to her life experience (professional and personal). Given Russian Jews' collective experience in systemic persecution however; I would expect her background had a huge impact on her philosphy and mind-set (much like the German Jewish expatriates who urged Einstein to press for an Allied Nuclear weapons program even when there was no real threat of the same in Nazi Germany).

Is there a decent quality biography out there? I don't really expect to learn anything but I do try to keep an open and receptive mind for quality thinking.

Is it better to just LEAVE or FIGHT?

although, i have not been victim to the same level of damage from the wts as many of you on this site, i have noticed that it is very difficult to fight such a large entity with deep pockets and passionate (though misled) supporters.. .

since i am still in the very early stages of leaving/fading, i wonder:.

i have already spent the vast majority of my life sacrificially serving the interests of this org.

I agree with Evil.

A lot depends on your definition of "fight" (direct confrontation, picketing, etc...). I think a better word would be oppose (every time you post on this site, you're doing it!). One way is by being the highest quality human being you can be (disproving our "evilness" with deeds) by helping others. Be a passive-aggressive bastard/bitch!

I've got a huge pack of JW relatives and I'd like to be there for the younger generation while taking advantage of the occasional "accidental" debate with the older ones (as a former "golden child" I still have some credibility with them and cordial relations made possible by my self imposed exile).

For my personality type, I have to oppose the org.'s members knowing what I know now, but more through education and kindness than aggressive personal attacks (unless they're really objectionable). That said, make sure you take time to "heal" and re-orient yourself first. You're not on the clock anymore!
