I had various doubts for years, even as a jw child.
yep, it's mid-week and so we could take a little respite to do some scientific research.
here's the survey question:.
how long before you quit did you entertain doubts about "the troof"?.

I had various doubts for years, even as a jw child.
with all the talk in the organization about the end being so close, and we have all heard this story over and over again for years, as a young/loyal jw, did you think you would see your 60th birthday.. if we were to walk into the kingdom hall today and poll all the jw's under 30, and ask them "will you see your 60th birthday", what kind of response would you get ???.
armageddon is not coming, the year 2014 will pass, as will 2025, 2075, 2100, and even 3000. .
would love to hear experiences from some of the older ones on this board, who probaly thought the same thing when they were young.
We were told that the end was so near, we would never get into elemetary school before armageddon. Then it was high school. Then it was before we would move out of the house, get married, and have children etc etc etc.
I remember the bold urgency of my associates and family. I think we all played off of it so that we could have something to look forward to since the current jw life was very difficult. I remember getting "chills" just thinking about how soon the paradise would be.
Those feelings are long gone since even way before my exodus from the org. The urgency of the jw's took a huge downturn after the "this generation" changes in the mid 90's. I went through some personal depression of having that world view changed. The urgency was gone. This played a HUGE part in my doubts.
after reading posts on the learning from the great teacher, the part about gets playing with themselves each other makes the demons happy.
i wondered how many of us were scared to death as a youngster and even in our 20's 30's that the demons were going to attack us , in our house, furniture flying at us, if we strayed from the organization or once we left the org.
that they were waiting for us, just another scare tactic from the watchtower, what a bunch of bs.. any thoughts ??
Yes, I would have sleepless nights in fear of the demons. I woudl remain completely still, hoping that if I did not move, they woudl not do anything, lol. We were taught they would do anything, resort to anything to turn you away from Jehovah and his organization.
Thank goodness I outgrew that. If demons do exist and if they like to bother people, I am very confident they have no interest in bothering me!
Oh the memories!

when i was a witness i knew of many who would either celebrate certain holidays in secret or make up for them some other way.
such as, family day ( christmas ) costume parties ( halloween ), i even knew several who made it a point to go see the fireworks on the 4th of july.
my mother told a wife of an elder that she always felt weird on mother's day for not sending a card to her mom, because her mom expected one.
As a child, I would gaze out the car window on the way to the Hall and be mesmerized by all the Christmas lights! I remember feeling warm and cozy on the inside. I told no one ever, because I would have gotten in trouble for even thinking about liking a digusting pagan holiday.
Some of the witnesses in a bigger congregation from the one I was raised in would meet a a brother's house who lived near the place they had the fireworks for the 4th of July. I went one year and felt very guilty for participating, but reasoned it away that other Jw's were doing it so it must be border line ok.
Were any of you forbidden to eat Birthday cake at school? We were. I remember I had to be sent out of the class when someone had thier birthday so that I would not be participating by eating the cake. No wonder all my classmates thought I was weird. Talk about feeling left out and having it rubbed in royally. Then my brother (Gambler) revealed to me that he sometimes would eat the cake. Boy was I mad when I found out! Here I endured teasing and humiliation in the name of being a good witness, and he just didn't care and ate the cake and got away with it!

the "what if" thing comes to mind... no matter how much i strongly believe that they are not, what if armageddon happened tomorrow and they were correct?
would you have any sorrow for being wrong???.
i, personally would not.
Interesting question. Questions like these offer interesting dialogs!
I do not regret my decision of leaving, and I never will. I am proud of leaving and getting enlightened, thinking for myself. If it would turn out that armagedden comes as JW's believe (which I HIGHlY doubt), I would stand proud of my choices and trust that I would be judged fairly as I have tried my best to understand this life and to lead it well. I have faith that no matter what happens, I will be ok.

thanks to little toe's piquing my interest on this subject, i hafta ask it...... .
has anyone here had any personal spiritual experiences and is anyone here brave enough to describe/relate any personal spiritual experiences they've had, whether pre-borg, during being borganized or post-borg?
to be more specific, have you ever seen any angels or spirit creatures, been made aware of their presence in any way, interacted with or communicated with them, or had dream/visions...etc?
In 2001, right before my flight home from a trip to Las Vegas, I had an unmistakable feeling that I KNEW something was going to happen on our flight. Sure enough, our plane ended up making and emergency landing in Denver. The way it happened was so wierd too, the pilots never told us what was going on till our decent. This may not seem like a big deal, but I knew for certain something out of the ordinary was going to happen on that flight. Needless to say, I was a nervous wreck the whole time and ended up hyperventalating and just about lost it.
I also get the same feelings that a previous poster said of when you go into antique stores, the feeling that you can sense the past. It is more than just the smells and feel of the place, it goes a lot deeper. I seldom tell people about this because most think you are crazy or trying to get attention somehow.
There used to be this old museum in a small town I grew up in. We would visit it once in a while. I found it facinating and educational but also got the creeps from it. It featured old artifacts indigenous to the area, a lot of old settler, pioneer, and indian things. I swear to you that when I would go to the sections that had the mannequins and artifacts set up, I felt that they were alive. I could feel the presence of people in the past.....as if they were still living there right now. Then I would go to other areas of the museum and the feeling would dissappear. Of course, when I would tell my Witness friends and aquaintences about it, they would say that I was just getting carried away with my imagination. I knew deep down it was real, so I just stopped sharing it.

with extra cherries and extra cream!! Yum yum!
"the truth will set you free.
that is what we were always told when learning the wonderful bible truths tm.
freedom from ancestor worship, worrying about an eternity in hell (well, now you had to worry about getting nuked at a. but never mind), if the world would be destroyed in a nuclear holocaust, etc.. what are some of the things you felt you did not have to worry about when you were in, but do now?.
When I was a witness, I never worried about making friends. You had all these "token" friends that you did not have to work to make as long as you remained a good witness.
Like others have posted, I did not worry about death and my health. On a funny note, I seldom brushed my teeth when I was a witness because I figured that Jehovah would give me a new set of teeth if mine fell out if the new system had not come yet. LOL.
I also did not worry about employment as I was convinced that if I put Jehovah and his kingdom first, he would always provide adequate work for me. It is a shame because now I am paying royally for my neglect back then. Any one else have similar thoughts?

this is a local news item.
i doubt the link will last more than a day.
it appears the man had no connection to the jw's previously, he just considered them an "easy mark".
Forgive me, but I found this so funny, cant stop laughing.
Wish exciting things could have happened at our meetings. Most thrilling or scary thing was when maybe the power would go out for a little bit!
:-) I find this so funny!
