Just thinking about all this brought back memories of things I don’t have to deal with anymore.
I think this was mostly a ‘sister’s’ problem because the women in the Jehovah’s Witness religion were inflicted on each other more than the men were on each other.. It was awful being thrown together with people and seeing their insecurities up close. I didn’t have a “kingdom hall” personality. I acted the same as at work or anywhere else.
I tried to be friendly but some people (women) wouldn’t for whatever reason. I think some were ‘afraid’ of me because I was single and worked (not ‘spiritual’) or maybe they were afraid they would reveal too much about themselves. The conversations were stilted because they weighed their words. What really got me was when somebody tried to put on ‘airs’.
Then there were the nut-jobs and others that were overly sensitive and you had to tip-toe around them. And this was before the days when they actively recruited people with serious issues just so they could fill empty seats in kingdom halls.
No, my tolerating or being exposed to this nonsense is a thing of the past. How ironic that now it is MY turn to run from or shun Jehovah’s Witnesses.

These attempts to butter up the faithful elderly are because the religion knows when these people are gone - the JW religion is never going to see the like of them again.. Nobody supported them like this WW2 generation..and these people had a reverance for the religion more so than anybody else, IMO.
The religion is now just making its last grasping attempt and probably hopes some of these gullible people will be generous.
Your grandfather is right that this is not the religion he remembers from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. It’s like an ameoba that keeps shape shifting and has changed drastically in the last twenty years I have ‘Faded’.

Isn’t it funny that people ‘Out’ who have gotten on with their lives are being contacted by JWs.. Because of your husband you are closer to the situation and would be contacted.
You are right about not answering them - because any answer just leads to more intrusive questions and contact you don’t want..from people who (as we both know) are not your friends.
I don’t expect to be contacted by them and have no patience for them and see through the whole thing. This ‘reactivation’ is because the religion is looking for money and is losing the demographic of elderly who are passing away. I was criticized for having a full time job and don’t want Jehovah’s Witness coming around asking for anything!
Just keep ignoring those calls & texts.
i recall when it was released ,that's when i was a drone, how excited i felt at the prospect of reading it and formulating ways to sell it at the homes in my area.. i thought, finally a book to explain the last book in the bible and indeed one that the churches seemed to want to leave alone!.
i sold quite a few probably because of my enthusiasm and can still remember clearly the first day when i went knocking on doors with it ,and it's been decades since.. but over time it lost it's shine and my mind started to question the explanations in it due to the scene of other things being changed in the jw beliefs.. do you remember they flogged that book so many times in the book studies even when it was found to have "newer light " eclipsing it!.
who else remembers the printed pages with the official corrections to insert into the book ,so many that the book collapsed to be of no relevance anymore really.....what an embarrassment!.

This was back in the days when they had the Tuesday night book study in somebody’s home.. I remember some brother making a joke with comparisons to the Wizard of Oz, the Wicked Witch and Emerald City.

Well, I guess I’m off their radar because I haven’t seen or heard from them.
I know certain ex-Witnesses will be pursued more than others..Maybe a brother (because there aren’t enough men), or somebody who has some skill that Users in the congregation wanted, OR a family that opened up their house, entertained, served food, etc.
They didn’t so much as get the time of day from me since they criticized me as ‘unspiritual’ for having a full time job.. There’s probably a notation next to my name somewhere - being as they take notes about everything else.😉

If this was biowarfare on China’s part, then they sacrificed their own citizens to accomplish this!.. Unless they had a twofold purpose to reduce their high population. Very cruel if they did.
Nobody knows the exact death toll there and I’m sure it’s very high. My family knows of someone who worked there (not even in Wuhan) and they say the crematoriums were going night and day for a while before word got out that there was a pandemic!
People can say what they want about ‘conspiracy theories’ but I think we haven’t been told the whole truth about what happened in China.
