DESIROUS OF CHANGE:
I agree with you about ‘keeping your eye simple’ and how it kept costs down! So, if we took anything valuable from our JW experience that should be it.
As for the attitude that some have about the govt. bailing them out:..the JWs have the same attitude who think other Witnesses who saved or were criticized for working are going to give to those who didn’t want to...Not gonna happen.
MEAN MR MUSTARD:
I am referring to expensive things like rent, car insurance and medical insurance. Why these things are expensive? That’s a topic for another thread.
I agree with you and DOC that many people live beyond their means which has to do with their values. But, that’s also another topic for another thread.

How Is The Governing Body Viewed Today By Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by minimus inare they revered like the pope is to catholics??
back in the 1960s , fred franz and n.h knorr were the only men that counted.
after franz died, the governing body became more of an idolized entity.

DESIROUS OF CHANGE:
Yes, the GB no longer have the holy mystique they had when they were more anonymous.
But, even when I was an active JW I never really swallowed any nonsense about them having any ‘special communication with God’ or whatever weasel words used.. When you really think about it somebody having communication with God would really be SOME event wouldn’t it?..If anybody really communicated with the Creator, I want to shake that person’s hand! -

HOSER:
Absolutely it would get ugly fast. I think some people are in denial about that. I can’t say it enough that we have to get up and running again.
If anybody wants to stay home let them. But, I’ll bet they aren’t in immediate danger of starving and can probably get somebody else to do their errands for them.
MEAN MR MUSTARD:
I feel badly for these small businesses. It’s true that people should have savings but for some that’s easier said than done with everything so expensive.

MINIMUS:
I am a long time “fader” and cannot know for certain how the GB is viewed by JWs in general.
Although, some years back when I spoke to an old acquaintance they mentioned they didn’t care for a certain guy who makes all those facial gestures and talks down to everybody like they were little children.
Back when I started my “fade” the GB were mostly unknown except for their names and them giving talks at district conventions. Now, with their public broadcasts and scandals about expensive liquor purchases and TV programs about the religion’s massive problem about child sexual abuse, my opinion is low.
I would really like to know what certain JWs say behind closed doors to their spouses about this. We all know those are the only persons a JW could confide in about their doubts. Anybody else would rat them out.

SEA BREEZE:
Yes, about twelve months to develop this sounds optimistic. And what about getting it out and then getting everybody to the doctor or wherever to get this vaccine? That’ll surely take a while.
No, we have to get out now and get things going again. Of course we have to be careful..I’d like to think that this awful experience has made everybody more conscious of the fact that they have to act like responsible human beings.

SEA BREEZE:
Not feasible to be saying people of any age shouldn’t go out until we have a vaccine...We could be waiting a very long time for a coronavirus vaccine!
Unfortunately, some people over sixty still have to go out and work!. Maybe they were Witnesses who listened to the stupid religion and never prepared for retirement or the future. I’m grateful I never listened to their nonsense!
But, even people over sixty who are retired have to go out for groceries or whatever.

MINIMUS:
No question about it. We have to be brave and reopen the economy. Anybody who thought this could stay closed indefinitely was kidding themselves.
The most important thing is that the food supply chain can’t be disrupted. No food means panic, rioting, social disorder, violence and loss of life. If this were to happen there would be no other businesses and whatever society we have would unravel.
I see mask wearing for a very long time maybe indefinitely.
FINKELSTEIN:
I would like a vaccine also. But, I won’t hold my breath.

CORVUS:
Welcome to the forum and sorry you were witch-hunted because you spoke about things that are embarrassing to the JW religion.
And we’re a long way from 1975. Sorry you were told you wouldn’t need schooling. So many JWs were told this throughout the years. Even though I wasn’t raised in the religion they do try to sabotage people who have a career!..I would not be Retired today if I listened to them!

July 2020 Watchtower - A little observation
by Listener inthis is a comment made in the latest study watchtower under the main discussion of humility.
11 jehovah values humility more than ability and unity more than efficiency.
therefore, do your best to serve jehovah with humility.

LISTENER:
The worthless JW religion is in love with abject servility and this is REALLY what they want from their followers.. They won’t call it this, of course. Instead, they say ‘humility’. But, we all know what they mean.
DATA DOG:
You’re right on the mark about the religion wanting ignorant and compliant followers. They might like the occasional rich JW with a business. That rich JW also loves the idea of desperate JWs working for them for cheap! Everybody’s happy.
It’s also my opinion that the religion wants uneducated people because (I suspect) what happened at some point was that educated people must have gotten into it verbally with ignorant elders/COs..They naturally ended up looking stupid so they issued directives ‘condemning’ higher education.. So, some shithead hurt EGO was at the bottom of this I’ll bet.
I’m sure this attitude also figured into why I was viewed so negatively because of the full time job I had. They not only hated all people with education/careers. But, they hated a woman even more so.. I’m glad I paid no attention to their opinion because I wouldn’t be Retired.
Let them go ask somebody ELSE for charity in this coronavirus crisis they are now jumping on the bandwagon about!
