Education vs JW?

i am 15 years old and recently just doubting this whole religion that was introduced to me when i was very small from a very good family friend.

doubt obviously comes with shame and guilt and i hate those feelings because it feels like i'm betraying this whole organization that i grew up in.... anyways, i've been doing research and found that jehovah's witnesses dislike/shun kids who attend colleges & universities that are more than 4 years long?

have you heard of this?

No, they’re not interested in helping anybody..and that communal attitude would not work in the modern world.

The hateful attitudes I saw in the JW religion came from the top down...Yet, the older hypocrites in the congregation were collecting their pensions so they were obviously in the workforce!!

Anybody looking in MY direction to do favors for the old ladies with cushy lives and other Users was deluded!!. I had no intention of helping anybody when I was criticized and shunned for having a job...Where did these idiots get their nerve?

No, I looked out for myself.. I stayed on the fringes of the congregation with few friends until I began my ‘Fade’ after they came out with that 1995 Generation thing...I cannot stress enough that my life would have been ruined if I listened to these hypocrites...If these people were still living I would track them down and write a letter telling them I’m Retired because I never listened to any of the nonsense in the JW religion.

i am pimo, but now have 40+ years of being a jw as i was raised in a 3rd generation family of witnesses and continue to fake my way through things - fading as i can.. for the vast majority of my time as a jw, the meetings were the central focus for all jws to get teaching, association, information and so on.

nothing was more important than being at the meetings!

over the last 20 years starting with the elimination of the weekly book study in homes and continuing down to today - my opinion is that the value/purpose of the weekly meetings continues to be diluted or minimized.

Yes, it’s true that it is extremely hard to keep up the hope in something called ‘urgent’ when decades pass and people get old. How could they not feel let down. But, I guess the religion nips that thought in the bud by saying that people shouldn’t ‘be serving for a date’. So, I guess that guilt trip kept quite a few in their seats for life.

When I read what you said about how frugal your grandparents were and how they never bought their house but remained as tenants until death, and those that came after them were determined to own property, etc...Well, why shouldn’t they?..Why is owning properties an indication of less spirituality? There were wealthy people in bible times. I never agreed with this stupid (and hypocritical) stand the JW religion has.

I can understand that the zeal and enthusiasm have gone - because SO much time has passed. Nobody can maintain that edge of your seat excitement when literal lifetimes have passed. You say many of these relatives are still in the religion. I guess it’s all they know.. I also suspect they and many JWs are victims of the ‘sunk cost fallacy’ and this is why they don’t leave..

I wasn’t born in but decided to leave after the 1995 Generation teaching. I wasted a little over twenty years there...Cannot believe I wasted that much time!!. Was treated like shit because of the full time job I refused to quit and have No regrets about that..But, when the religion pulled this Generation stunt, I could no longer continue there even though I tried...I have been happily out twenty years and Retired several years ago.

Yes, I am glad you realized it would indeed be a nightmare if someone didn’t prepare for Retirement!!!

I came into the JW religion a young working adult who refused to quit my job to appease these people. (Don’t know if it was jealousy or if they just hated women with independence/self-esteem.)..You were supposed to go out in service, do housecleaning and then be minding everybody else’s business in the congregation by doing favors for Users.. NO WAY!!!

Meanwhile..the older people in the congregation were collecting their pensions - which means THEY were in the workforce!

Thankfully, I did not listen and am Retired today..These people who tried to ruin my life are mostly dead now..and they went to their graves living a cushy life.

So you can understand that I don’t want the Witnesses coming near me looking for anything..I have no use for them.

Welcome to the forum. It’s wonderful you want to study medicine. Luke was a physician.

They tell people not to go to college - meanwhile they are looking for doctors/lawyers and other professional people. How did these people get their qualifications? They went to college, that’s how. Do you know there are thousands of older Witnesses who never got college or career and didn’t prepare for retirement? They are frantic! Don’t make the same mistake.

Any older people telling YOU now not to get your education are not going to be around to even help you when you are older in life.

It’s as important as ever because if JWs have no contact with the congregation and the hounders, they will get used to the freedom. Can’t have that happening! So, that’s why there are Zoom meetings with heavy pressure on people to have their camera on so they can be seen and participate. People are also expected in the lockdown to always be available to video ‘chats’ because it’s assumed they have nothing else to do!

Trying to get my head around these go bags

when i was looking at prepping back in the 90s i was told by several elders that we needed to just rely on the org and jehovah and not prep.

i started to put away vacuum sealed bags of rice beans and spices anyway.

now they have this go bag crap.

The ‘Go-bag’ thing was a response to hurricanes and natural disasters.

The JWs came out with this suggestion after everybody else heard about it first on the media. They want to give the impression they are on top of things but also because too many JWs are in a news blackout.

When I heard from my JW friend getting all excited over Go-bags, I asked humorously “where are you going”?..The reason I said this is because the average person who has a Go-bag knows it means they have it in case they need to evacuate to higher ground because of flood conditions because of heavy rain, hurricanes OR if they are fleeing wildfires.

The impression and vibe I got from this Witness was that they were preparing for Exodus 2..I’m in agreement with BLUES BROTHER. I think they thought they were going to be crossing the ‘Red Sea’ or hitching a ride to neverneverland.

That’s why I asked this JW “where are you going”.

The JW religion’s guidelines always come out after the general public already heard these things on the news.. But, don’t forget that some JWs are in a news blackout - so they have to hear it from somebody..The religion is just enlightening their most stupid and dysfunctional members.

As far as washing hands: I didn’t need anybody to tell me this! All through the years I have washed my hands til they’re chapped. It’s too bad we have a population of slobs who needed a pandemic to get them to do simple hygiene. Who knows if it’s because they were never taught it OR just developed lazy habits over their lives..

What you know about vitamins and supplements is correct. I’m on the same page as you there!

With regard to the religion trying to get money and goods out of people in this pandemic?? What is there to say except that I’m glad I ‘Faded’ years ago. I could ever tolerate this, not to mention I’d be the last person to be helped if I were stupid enough to still be there.

I can certainly believe that all they do is just read a little bit just to get the gist of somebody’s letter and maybe a point..then the letter gets tossed.

Back in the day when I was in I wrote a few letters - nothing bad..One might have been about chronology and maybe another was about their sappy advice to singles. In the one case about chronology I received an intelligent reply. In the other case, I received a stupid and condescending answer that didn’t even address my questions..It was quite obvious that somebody didn’t bother reading all of what I wrote OR didn’t care to address it.

I never wrote after that because it would have been pointless to write to somebody not honest or even interested!

What Did You Choose Jehovah Over?

some jws believe they have the truth.

they alone understand god, jehovah.

they are very happy being jehovah’s witnesses.👍👌..... many others realize what they have given up for jehovah, to belong to the jehovah’s witness religion.

Hopefully, most of the people you mention who gave up so much for the JW religion ended up okay. I hope they did..But, there are some who probably didn’t and they have regrets.

I was not in their category and came into the religion a young working adult. I refused to give up my job to pursue poverty - especially when I saw that the people pushing said poverty were living a cushy life. No, I kept my job until retirement.

I functioned working full time but doing the best I could in the so-called “Truth”..I have no regrets except for time I wasted!..But, that is all past and I’m okay now.
