so my wife tells me yesterday....on saturday we having a emergency disaster class on saturday.

Again, what that brother said sums up what would REALLY happen if (God forbid) things became really dire. The ‘brotherhood’ is an illusion that will evaporate. I knew this years ago.

Back in the day when everybody was younger and WItnesses were at gatherings feeling good, etc..it was easy to think that people would ‘be there’ for you.. Of course, nobody thought about age, people moving away, people leaving the religion OR a worldwide pandemic that would stop everything in its tracks.

This Covid crisis had better be a wakeup call for the JWs. I would rather KNOW I am on my own than have a false hope that I’m going to have support that ends up not materializing.

As you said, if the religion only offers up advice already published elsewhere and NOT offer a morsel of material assistance now - what good would they possibly be at some future time in a worse predicament?

when i was looking at prepping back in the 90s i was told by several elders that we needed to just rely on the org and jehovah and not prep.

i started to put away vacuum sealed bags of rice beans and spices anyway.

now they have this go bag crap.

The admission by that elder was sobering. “He is not in charge of other people’s lives.” (ie. the “friends” are on their own) 🤣...Here you thought it was going to be everybody looking out for everybody else (their friends in the hall). Meanwhile, this guy was worried about the reality of making a living and feeding his family!.. (We know now in this pandemic that would mean we have to have a functioning infrastructure and supply chain!)

Your comment to your wife was right on target!..If she were to be alone: would she be included in whatever??..Let me tell you right now: as a single woman I can attest to the fact that she would NOT be..Even under ideal conditions back then, I was viewed as an outcast - with maybe a few elderly or person here and there being kind...SO, I knew full well if there was any kind of real disaster I would be on my own.

This is why I am forever grateful I followed my instincts and held onto my job until Retirement..I cannot imagine the scenario for a needy single older woman dependent on the charity and mercy of people in the religion??😳..How would she REALLY be viewed in a time of disaster and privation like the great tribulation when people are worrying about themselves??..I’m so glad I’m not in that religion anymore.

Anybody’s Go-bag would make them feel good for a very short time.

even though she had the legal right to an offspring by his family he still thought he was sleeping with a prostitute.

if it is wrong to even think of having relations with a woman similar to the “sin” of watching pornography why wouldn’t what judah did be wrong?

I also believe handsome Joseph was not tempted and was being polite to this older woman...You are probably also right that maybe all of Solomon’s women were not attractive - and he probably didn’t visit them all that often 😉.

Standards were somewhat different and change through the ages. Look at the Statue of Liberty. That face looks masculine to me! I’m sure in bible times they weren’t into the anorexic look like today..

Besides, women back then were all covered up. Maybe you saw their eyes..You also didn’t see people’s bodies like now - or have the tv culture we have. People grew up in a village and that’s all they saw.

The standards of female beauty probably were a little different back then (not to mention women were covered up). We might not consider them attractive by modern standards.

last week would have marked the 98th birthday of a man for whom most of us here have high regard.

People talk about the JW religion ‘reforming’..I assume these ex-JWs would go back if this were to ever happen.

Well, I wish them all the best because I’m done with religion and am not interested in what the JW religion morphs into or ‘reforms’ into.

The Bible is absolutely disgusting with men in ancient times getting away with literal murder and getting to f#ck ANY damn woman they wanted. No consequences whatsoever if the man was of high status!

ROAD TO NOWHERE:

Some brother once gave his opinion that Potiphar’s wife in all likelihood was not ugly..but was probably good-looking because a man of his stature supposedly could get the best-looking woman in the land..Of course, we can never know for sure.

All in all, women’s situation back then was horrible - as it is in many places today.

ANYBODY with any intelligence and leanings towards being academic is a threat and must be squashed. That’s why some semi-literate (and probably jealous) brother was only too happy to give you the point to work on being ‘Accurate Reading’.

Obviously, this was not your problem but these Witness fools wanted to knock you down several pegs and have you chasing your tail.. This is why they have lost their best and brightest. Thinking people are not wanted in the Witness religion.

Education vs JW?

i am 15 years old and recently just doubting this whole religion that was introduced to me when i was very small from a very good family friend.

doubt obviously comes with shame and guilt and i hate those feelings because it feels like i'm betraying this whole organization that i grew up in.... anyways, i've been doing research and found that jehovah's witnesses dislike/shun kids who attend colleges & universities that are more than 4 years long?

have you heard of this?

No, they’re not interested in helping anybody..and that communal attitude would not work in the modern world.

The hateful attitudes I saw in the JW religion came from the top down...Yet, the older hypocrites in the congregation were collecting their pensions so they were obviously in the workforce!!

Anybody looking in MY direction to do favors for the old ladies with cushy lives and other Users was deluded!!. I had no intention of helping anybody when I was criticized and shunned for having a job...Where did these idiots get their nerve?

No, I looked out for myself.. I stayed on the fringes of the congregation with few friends until I began my ‘Fade’ after they came out with that 1995 Generation thing...I cannot stress enough that my life would have been ruined if I listened to these hypocrites...If these people were still living I would track them down and write a letter telling them I’m Retired because I never listened to any of the nonsense in the JW religion.

Weekly Meeting Importance Being Reduced - Your Thoughts?

i am pimo, but now have 40+ years of being a jw as i was raised in a 3rd generation family of witnesses and continue to fake my way through things - fading as i can.. for the vast majority of my time as a jw, the meetings were the central focus for all jws to get teaching, association, information and so on.

nothing was more important than being at the meetings!

over the last 20 years starting with the elimination of the weekly book study in homes and continuing down to today - my opinion is that the value/purpose of the weekly meetings continues to be diluted or minimized.

Yes, it’s true that it is extremely hard to keep up the hope in something called ‘urgent’ when decades pass and people get old. How could they not feel let down. But, I guess the religion nips that thought in the bud by saying that people shouldn’t ‘be serving for a date’. So, I guess that guilt trip kept quite a few in their seats for life.

When I read what you said about how frugal your grandparents were and how they never bought their house but remained as tenants until death, and those that came after them were determined to own property, etc...Well, why shouldn’t they?..Why is owning properties an indication of less spirituality? There were wealthy people in bible times. I never agreed with this stupid (and hypocritical) stand the JW religion has.

I can understand that the zeal and enthusiasm have gone - because SO much time has passed. Nobody can maintain that edge of your seat excitement when literal lifetimes have passed. You say many of these relatives are still in the religion. I guess it’s all they know.. I also suspect they and many JWs are victims of the ‘sunk cost fallacy’ and this is why they don’t leave..

I wasn’t born in but decided to leave after the 1995 Generation teaching. I wasted a little over twenty years there...Cannot believe I wasted that much time!!. Was treated like shit because of the full time job I refused to quit and have No regrets about that..But, when the religion pulled this Generation stunt, I could no longer continue there even though I tried...I have been happily out twenty years and Retired several years ago.

Yes, I am glad you realized it would indeed be a nightmare if someone didn’t prepare for Retirement!!!

I came into the JW religion a young working adult who refused to quit my job to appease these people. (Don’t know if it was jealousy or if they just hated women with independence/self-esteem.)..You were supposed to go out in service, do housecleaning and then be minding everybody else’s business in the congregation by doing favors for Users.. NO WAY!!!

Meanwhile..the older people in the congregation were collecting their pensions - which means THEY were in the workforce!

Thankfully, I did not listen and am Retired today..These people who tried to ruin my life are mostly dead now..and they went to their graves living a cushy life.

So you can understand that I don’t want the Witnesses coming near me looking for anything..I have no use for them.
