anyone ever hear of someone getting dfed in a congregation then moving cross country and joining another jw congregation and not telling them you were dfed.

I’m not surprised this does happen.. A person wants to make a clean start without people being biased against them..but you can’t accomplish this in the Jehovah’s Witness religion.

The Witnesses send a letter when somebody moves to a new congregation and says where they came from. I think only the elders see it.

In some ways this is a protection and warns the new elders if this person is a problem. (What’s bad is if the congregation is not warned!).. Sadly though, this letter can be very biased against somebody and this may be unfair..But, there is nothing that John/Jane Q Publisher can do about this.

I had heard by gossip about one such letter that followed a person who came back after living elsewhere...It was very unflattering and suggested the person should have restrictions put on them, etc.

Welcome back. I am a longtime ‘fader’ who has been on here for fifteen years.

A lot has happened in the JW religion. They have gone from bad to worse with high control and intrusiveness. I said years ago that I didn’t want to be anywhere near JWs who didn’t want to work when REALITY hit them.. It did. Thousands have been released from bethels over the last decade or so. Other JWs in congregations have reached retirement age with no preparation because they thought Armageddon would have come before this time.

Craziest thing you ever saw in a KH?

i did this in my facebook group for my podcast and it was fun.. so what's the craziest thing you ever saw?.

for me it was watching a brother have a heart attack during the meeting in the auditorium.

i was a kid and noticed him shaking and acting strange.

It’s too bad that the JW religion instills this kind of cruelty in some people. A parent that does sick shit like this deserves unloving treatment in return.

Waco Mini-Series on Netflix. Powerful and Scary.

so we binge-watched the waco mini-series on netflix.. wow, what a powerful and enlightening programme!

even if you think you know what happened, it gives you extra context to it all.

it's very well done even if you just want a great drama series, but it's way more than that.. there are of course some dramatization and slight historical inaccuracies for the purpose of story-telling but it was very informative.

Yes, I believe David Koresh was delusional and the rest of the adults there as well. He was running his little kingdom and getting to have sex with whomever he wanted. But, did they all deserve to die the way they did? I don’t think so.

A recipe for disaster and bloodshed and having the government come down with a sledgehammer:..just start your own cult or group out in the desert somewhere - and then let it be known that you have a cache of weapons. You’ll get a real Armageddon!

the 1983 film educating rita, written by willy russell and starring michael caine and julie walters, is one of the finest stories ever told.

julie's character is the eponymous working class hairdresser and michael caine plays professor frank bryant her open university tutor assigned, against his will, to teach her english literature.

the dialogue is brilliant and funny but it is the dilemma of an awakening rita caught between two worlds that is deeply moving.

Unless my memory is wrong, I thought she didn’t show up for the gathering because she felt she would just be an object of curiosity by all those snooty people.

Do Jw's Dress up in meeting clothes for Zoom meetings?

i am just curious if anyone knows whether the "friends" still are required to wear "meeting clothes" for attending meetings through zoom?

such emphasis on dressing in a godly manner over the decades, would be interesting if some attend in pajamas or their work clothes, no makeup, etc....

Most definitely. They get all dressed up just to sit in their own living room..

THEN they have people (uninvited guests if you will)..able to see into THEIR home and they get criticized because there is a picture of a sports figure or whatever hanging on THEIR walls.

The level of intrusiveness is through the roof and it’s too bad the average JWs’ sensibilities are so eroded they have been reduced to a level they tolerate anything! I just cannot believe it.

Anybody with any brains there should switch the damn thing off.

I came into the religion a few years after 1975 and never heard a word mentioned about this...It wasn’t until years later I learned some people quit their jobs, sold homes, etc. - and had to start all over again after the year ended and Paradise never materialized.

I also thank the Cosmos that I wasn’t brought up a JW.. I was raised Catholic. I got involved with JWs as young adult and I remember the hot and uncomfortable District Conventions in Yankee Stadium, getting up early and being dead tired.

One time my car group volunteered for food service. Got there at a ridiculously early hour..Hours later, when I got back to my seat..my belongings (bible/songbook) were moved into the aisle by a bunch of little bastards!..Of course my handbag was always with me!! You couldn’t pay me to ever do this again.

I remember one summer the convention was in the Philadelphia stadium in hundred degree heat.. I went with three older people. It was a disaster with the heat being so oppressive and people passing out. Come Sunday morning we had Enough!..and headed home.

The highlight of the trip was us going out to restaurants..We got no spiritual food that weekend!

Midweek Meeting looooooooong prayers.

one thing that aggravates me is long concluding prayers, especially at the midweek meeting.

you work all day, rush home, grab a quick bite, dress up in meeting clothes.

then, go to the meeting.

The problem with long prayers is that sometimes someone doesn’t pray enough on their own time OR also because some brother thinks it’s his right to teach everybody a lesson. Running overtime shows his contempt for everybody’s private time among other things.

Unfortunately, the Witness religion lends itself to be a place where elders can be little dictators...I remember an arrogant older brother who thought he was ‘lordly’ and was prone to looong prayers!

He was the book study conductor for a time. One evening I got up and walked out while he droned on. If he were still living I would LOVE to tell him I’m not in the religion anymore and what I think about the whole thing.
