i would think that exjws would exercise more critical thinking than not.

now we are thrust in this “ world” and take sides on social issues and politics.. just because our government leaders say something it doesn’t mean it’s right.

just because the majority of the news media tells us how we should think, it doesn’t mean we have to follow.

I think perhaps maybe if the ex-JW is a little older and/or not raised in the religion, although there are exceptions to this.

I was not raised in the religion and left as an older working person in my 40s. Whereas some young JW who is born-in and wants Out doesn’t even know who they are or how the world works!..If anything, I think they would be most vulnerable to whatever - so I think it depends on who the ex-JW is.

the point of the letter was how many are feeling disappointed these days.. no circuit assembly, convention, how we can't fellowship at the k.h.

disappointed we might have had a love one die, etc etc.

he then goes on to write about how disappointed jehovah must have felt when his first human creation rebelled.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some Witnesses are happy they don’t have to go to meetings. Of course, they aren’t going to verbalize this to anybody outside their home.

For born-ins, this is a taste of freedom they never had. For those who came into the religion as an adult, these few months away from the tedium of meetings may have been a wake up call and reminder of what life was like back in the ‘normal’ days before they got suckered into the religion.

The religion probably knows they are losing their grip of control so they need these letters and guilt-trip reminders to try and hold on to people.

i don't remember disfellowshippings happening very often and announcements about being re instated but i think i remember that we used to clap hands if someone came back after being disfellowshipped.

but then i think clapping wasn't allowed.

am i correct in my recollections?.

Removing Historic Monuments and Statues - Does the Term "Historical" Make it Right or Wrong?

after further review and thought, i really don't see how removing a monument or statue that may be truly offensive to a large group of people is in some way rewriting history.. i think of germany or other parts of europe.

you don't see swastikas on buildings or statues of hitler or mussolini or other upper level generals in public.

would it be good for a person (think jewish) to drive around a city and see hitler in a public park, even though it is "historical?

The confederate statues belong in a museum. They are part of a bygone era and are hurtful to some people.

But, I’m sure many people will get the same ‘satisfaction’ as you say when the birds shit on whatever politically-correct monstrosity that will be erected in the place of the old statues!

This is being avoided up until now. A lot of restraint is being shown!..But, it may reach a point where there is nothing left to do to protect the rest of the population from this chaos.. If local politicians will NOT act then the president should step in and do what he has to do (and I sure wish he would) regardless of what anybody thinks. He probably would not care if he got re-elected or not!

I see your point.

I certainly do not believe in anything being defaced, but people in black areas are offended by anything that may seem to them to show sympathy for the old south. (I know it may seem unfair but the actions we are seeing are not rational.)..If anything, the poor statue should be preserved somewhere in a museum where it cannot be defaced.

I also agree that this attitude is totally out of hand and the left are showing themselves to be lawless animals who want chaos. They want to take all other statues down..I’m curious as to what ugliness they’d like to put in its/their places.. A hammer and sickle?

..I just read that a statue of Christopher Columbus was beheaded. I have heard all the noise by people saying Columbus Day for Italian Americans should be abolished. Meanwhile, do all these ignorant protesters know that Columbus was in service to Queen Isabella of Spain?

As for the confederate flag:..No offense to any southerners and no disrespect to their ancestors who fought, but the confederate nation was defeated in the Civil War. If anybody wants to hang the flag in their garage or in their den, that’s their business. But, it doesn’t really belong hanging in a public area. I can imagine this offends black people.

I know southerners never quite got over losing this war and animosity still exists. (I remember explaining this to a Polish immigrant friend years ago who wanted to know what the attitudes are around the country.)

As far as statues (Robert E. Lee) being torn down: whatever is put in its place had better be neutral and represent the whole population in general - and not some activist or terrorist..If so, then I hope the pigeons decorate it..

i’m sick and tired of listening to white people begging for forgiveness simply because they are white.

in a nearby town, a six year old girl asked her mom, “ why don’t we have a black lives matter march here?

Yes, this stupid talk is really disgusting. I had a difficult life, but I’m sure some idiot somewhere would think I had ‘white privilege’ - and I may not be as ‘white’ as a northern European.

If that was my little girl and she said that to me, I would sit her down and explain as best I could about world history. I would tell her to be courteous to everybody BUT not to concern herself if once in a while somebody doesn’t like her because of the way she looks. She can’t help that and not to worry.

I had this negative attitude happen to me in my life whether it was on jobs or elsewhere (even in the kingdom hall back in the day).

I just ignored it because it is not MY problem. I saw this in the hall by well-dressed blacks...Some white persons discussed with me the way they were treated: being ignored when they said Hello (or seeing eyeballs rolling).

I will meet people halfway and be friendly. But I’ll tell you one thing: I don’t chase after anybody and ask ‘what’s wrong’, because I know it’s nothing I did...And if any other white person wants to go around apologizing like an idiot for their appearance or history or whatever, let them knock themselves out.

JW.ORG delivering food to JWs in California

so a couple of weeks ago my wife (who is an active jw) got a delivery of apples, oranges, potatoes, carrots and onions.. the story i heard was that the "branch bought a bunch of food that would go to waste and was delivering it".. i am in california and a friend of mine in another cong.

50 or so miles away had the same thing happen.. a few days ago we got another delivery and as a matter of fact my wife was asked if she could "help jehovah with delivering his gifts".

unfortunately she is in poor health and unable to so so.. anyway, the story seems fabricated to me and i am wondering what is really going on.. does anybody have any ideas?

UNDER THE RADAR:

Yeah, I love it. They get food and suplies from wherever..in all likelihood paying nothing - then distribute them to their members - THEN tell the members to contribute the difference from their regular food bill.

It’s a win win.
