so my 88 mil died and was the epitome of a faithful sister.
my wife and her sister are members of the congregation for 40+ years.
to be fair it was short notice but we had the showing and visitation and only about 12 out of 120 of the congregation showed up and only 1 elder!

Yeah, Thank God for THAT bit of good news.
But, as for few people showing up, I think it all depends on whether the deceased was in a popular clique. Sadly, in the JW religion there is not an equal concern about people there..which is yet another reason I don’t miss that place!

you know you're a jehovah's witness when.... being offered a scholarship to a good university is considered a bad thing.. when you see a house you like you claim it for after your god kills the owner.. you recieve spiritual guidence from a bus driver and a window washer.. you're engaged to a person you only met 3 months ago.. your widowed mother is marrying a man she met at the convention who she's known for 2 weeks.. there's jehovah's witnesses meeting in your house on a saturday morning to talk about going out knocking on doors on a saturday morning.. a lie in on a weekend happens about twice a year.. you dont talk to your own parents/children because they have a different opinion about a magazine.. you're not quite sure what you're supposed to believe anymore.. when someone criticizes your a magazine you feel like you're being attacked.. your 3yo son owns a suit.. if you're not married by the age of 30 you're considered to be gay or something wrong with you.. (for girls) if you havent married the first or second person you've dated you're considered promiscuous or something wrong with you.. you get your scientific knowledge from a magazine written by people who've never been to college and have never actually read the source they claim to be citing.. you get excited if there's a storm or natural disaster.. you get excited when there's a terrorist attack.. you get excited when there's a pandemic.. your version of tinder is the lunch break at a convention.. your girlfriend dresses like her grandmother.. your grandparents, despite being in the same religion as you, died believing totally a different belief system..

The one I’m laughing about is if a JW girl/woman won’t marry any of the first few guys she’s dated. It is assumed something is ‘wrong’ with her. I remember being told I was ‘too picky’.
I was discussing this with another sister once. She said the men in the religion have ‘pick of the litter’ because there were so many women..but sisters are expected to accept ‘ugly goons’ because there are so few men and the decent ones are already taken.
last week i watched the docuseries on prime video called “the last narc”.
it was mainly about the notorious mexican guadalajara drug cartel during the 70’s and 80’s and a united states dea agent, kiki camerena, who was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered in guadalajara, mexico in 1984. this is a very well-known and haunting event here in the usa.. however, there was also about a 7-8 minute segment during the docuseries that graphically detailed the kidnapping, rape, and murder of 4 jehovah’s witnesses that also took place just days before kiki camerena was taken.
the jw’s were 2 married couples, us citizens, dennis and rose carlson, ben and pat mascarenas.

I remember back when those JWs were murdered and I remember saying to some elder that something like that supposedly should ‘not happen’.
The elder just gave me the shoulder shrug as if to say who knows. I was bothered by this because presumably the angels should have been protecting the JWs in their work! Guess not.

While I don’t have a picture of that article, I do remember the thread. I am pretty sure it was within the last two years (?).. I was outraged at the artwork depicting a needy elderly JW woman looking in her empty refrigerator but YET in another picture putting money in the contribution box!!!
These artwork pictures in the literature are hints and suggestions..as we all know. But, I would wager that the minds who thought this one up never missed a meal.
In real life, this lady should be at her neighborhood food bank getting provisions!

I was always puzzled as well by the JW religion thinking that the governments of the world were supposed to be terrified of their message. They must see themselves as the modern day equivalent of Moses going to see Pharaoh.

three teens were convicted of stealing and the punishment is cut off their fingers.
some past punishments were finger and foot removal.
pretty barbaric but i bet they don’t have too many looters there..

The reason that I would be against this barbarity is because it would render a person helpless who cannot work. You would have yet more people around begging!
I would make a thief do community service to make up something to society.

I agree with your description of what the JW religion is headed for and turning into right now as we speak: ..an online religion with maybe some assemblies a couple of times a year. Whether these will be at a rented facility or something they own who knows?
Maybe some still-ins are aware of this but I wonder if some are thinking things are going back to the good old-fashioned days?.. I tend to doubt it.

They may have been given ‘free’ to the congregations - but I read somewhere it was suggested that if people’s food bills were lower because of this ‘gift’..they should donate that difference to the religion.
