You Know You're A Jehovah's Witness When...

you know you're a jehovah's witness when.... being offered a scholarship to a good university is considered a bad thing.. when you see a house you like you claim it for after your god kills the owner.. you recieve spiritual guidence from a bus driver and a window washer.. you're engaged to a person you only met 3 months ago.. your widowed mother is marrying a man she met at the convention who she's known for 2 weeks.. there's jehovah's witnesses meeting in your house on a saturday morning to talk about going out knocking on doors on a saturday morning.. a lie in on a weekend happens about twice a year.. you dont talk to your own parents/children because they have a different opinion about a magazine.. you're not quite sure what you're supposed to believe anymore.. when someone criticizes your a magazine you feel like you're being attacked.. your 3yo son owns a suit.. if you're not married by the age of 30 you're considered to be gay or something wrong with you.. (for girls) if you havent married the first or second person you've dated you're considered promiscuous or something wrong with you.. you get your scientific knowledge from a magazine written by people who've never been to college and have never actually read the source they claim to be citing.. you get excited if there's a storm or natural disaster.. you get excited when there's a terrorist attack.. you get excited when there's a pandemic.. your version of tinder is the lunch break at a convention.. your girlfriend dresses like her grandmother.. your grandparents, despite being in the same religion as you, died believing totally a different belief system..

Years ago an older busybody sister made a similar remark about not getting a two-door car to me when I was shopping for another car. I told her something along the lines of: “If they agree to make my car payments..I’ll get any kind of car they want.”..

The mentality in the religion is that you should ‘expect’ trouble from people in the congregation (the excuse of ‘imperfection’ and all that) - AND you’re supposed to ‘take it’. I never had any business dealings with any so-called ‘brothers’ and avoided them like the plague.

And with what’s happened in the religion in the last two decades with studies being started with seriously dysfunctional people.. (so they can fill the empty seats in the hall)..I’m very GLAD I’m not there because I would see the handwriting on the wall.

Yes and that’s the whole problem right there in a nutshell:..not bothering to save for Retirement.

So, it’s not so much what a person’s occupation IS (but some obviously pay more than others)..it’s the fact that Witnesses were taught they would never NEED to think about retiring because ‘Armageddon was coming’ to solve that problem.

Well, I guess they forgot the Proverb about the lowly ant..and isn’t it funny that certain scriptures are ignored. I didn’t ignore it.

If you think about it, so-called ‘worldly people’ through the years weren’t all employed in high-paying professional jobs! Many probably made a modest income. But they damn well knew they HAD to prepare for their old age - meanwhile JWs thumbed their nose at this fact.

for me, outside the jw context, that word seems to relate to something like a prison setting, where you're allowed to do certain things based on good behavior.

Glad you understand..Some JWs and ex-JWs don’t get it (or care to get it) because their situation was better...I really WAS viewed badly by the Witnesses because I had a full time job - which I wisely kept til the end.

Also, as somebody not raised in the religion - the advice against careers sounded downright ridiculous!

I always knew this policy of telling people not to get careers was going to come back to bite them when people in their twenties back in the 1970s reached retirement age unprepared.. Even people who prepared have to watch it!!

So you can very well understand why I never wanted the dubious ‘privilege’ of having any self-important ‘super stars’ over who never worked..Let them go eat at a fast food place.

I don’t think I could stand to be present. I would vomit.

I only have unpleasant memories of being treated like garbage when I was active in the JW religion years ago because I refused to quit my decent job to pioneer and do favors for the Users. This is what they thought a young woman was going to be coerced into doing. Glad I resisted.

I’m sorry about your older relatives still working at back-breaking labor over the age of 60 because they heeded the religion’s advice not to get college or a career.

I cringe when I think about how I would be in the same situation if I had caved in to all the criticism - and from older JWs who were collecting THEIR pensions to boot!! This means THEY were in the workforce when they were younger!.. But, yet they were pushing poverty for me and any other young person there. Go figure.

Know what’s even sadder? These people aren’t even alive today to help anybody gullible enough to have listened back then.

Normally, I would have nothing against window washers or anybody else in a cleaning occupation. Some of them probably do well. Good for them.

The problem is that the JW religion knocked me for my full time office job and put ‘cleaning people’ on a pedestal as though they were better Christians than I was. Maybe they got more hours of ministry in?? Whatever. The fact is I didn’t go that route and have No regrets now about it.

DATA DOG:

That may very well be a ‘pioneer dinner’ and he is a low hour publisher like I was considered..They could keep their petty reward or pat on the back..I’m glad I kept my job until the end..And I’m glad I’m not around them now to listen to their appeals for money!

I would NEVER have wanted the ‘privilege’ of having them over!!

After all their talk of knocking responsible people such as myself who worked full-time who didn’t ‘pioneer’ - and encouraging others in the congregation to not invite or to shun - there’s No way they would ever get a morsel of MY food. There’s no forgiveness really.. I wouldn’t be Retired if I listened to these people.

I don’t give a sh#t if there was a pandemic or any other catastrophe.

You just don’t get to criticize and call people names like ‘unspiritual’ or ‘materialistic’ because they work - and THEN imagine you are going to be a guest at their house or ask them for money. These people have to get real about their policies and the hateful attitudes they have engendered in the congregations.

True. I recently contacted an old JW acquaintance to bring them up to date about my life and where I was living. This person knows I don’t go anymore.

I got a response laced with the preachiness of what’s going on in the country, etc. and how everybody has been ‘warned’. I guess they are waiting for divine vengeance to come any day now so that pesky 99% of the human race will be wiped out - and they can finally move into that wealthy person’s mansion they admire so much..After all, they ‘deserve’ it because they have been so ‘faithful’ making Witness meetings for all these years and got all those hours in..Right?

last week i watched the docuseries on prime video called “the last narc”.

it was mainly about the notorious mexican guadalajara drug cartel during the 70’s and 80’s and a united states dea agent, kiki camerena, who was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered in guadalajara, mexico in 1984. this is a very well-known and haunting event here in the usa.. however, there was also about a 7-8 minute segment during the docuseries that graphically detailed the kidnapping, rape, and murder of 4 jehovah’s witnesses that also took place just days before kiki camerena was taken.

the jw’s were 2 married couples, us citizens, dennis and rose carlson, ben and pat mascarenas.

Well that’s yet MORE news to me about whispered stories in bethel. This time about missing pioneer sisters!

But I’m not surprised as far as missing sisters who became victims, when looking back in retrospect. The very nature of the public ministry with conversations with strangers and return visits with smiling sisters might make women perfect targets for somebody with bad intent, sad to say...I suppose that’s why years ago I recall everybody was urged never to go alone to any door.

I’m sorry for anybody who became a victim. It’s interesting how the truth about tragic things like this leaks out years later..in spite of all the paranoid secrecy in the religion.

That sad story about the JW killed because some other brother was talking with a Muslim woman was not publicized..I only heard about it on here.

In those countries somebody would get the death penalty for proselytizing...let alone talking to a woman! So, it stands to reason that if these people are in the US the response would be hostile.

The point of all this is that the Witness work is dangerous - especially to the rank & file JWs who are on the front lines as it were. Going out and talking to the public about anything is dangerous - let alone the topic of religion and to people with hostile opposing viewpoints!!..Meanwhile, I didn’t want to be at somebody’s door in the first place and not totally convinced about what I was even supposed to be preaching.

When I found out about TTATT I was absolutely overjoyed to stop the wasted work in any public ministry!.. But, then again, in my case, I was a low hour publisher anyway..No regrets. So very glad I never spent more hours on this waste of time and resources which was never very safe in the first place!!!

so my 88 mil died and was the epitome of a faithful sister.

my wife and her sister are members of the congregation for 40+ years.

to be fair it was short notice but we had the showing and visitation and only about 12 out of 120 of the congregation showed up and only 1 elder!

Yeah, Thank God for THAT bit of good news.

But, as for few people showing up, I think it all depends on whether the deceased was in a popular clique. Sadly, in the JW religion there is not an equal concern about people there..which is yet another reason I don’t miss that place!

But, again, I am sorry for your loss.
