73 years old, a Witness for 48 years, an elder for 24 years, Baptized just before 1975. WOKE UP!
by pistolpete ini thought i would post an encouraging experience i found today.
i've been seeing a lot of 70-80 year old jws waking up, and their children are posting their experience on reddit.
these are old elders, pioneers, circuit overseers who have given their everything and finally at the end of their life, are walking away.. maybe the key to waking up is that a person has to have a deep sense of right and wrong.

PISTOL PETE & JW GONE BAD:
Yes, I also saw this on Reddit. Itâs quite possible he was disgusted with that âoverlapping generationâ among other things (like maybe being hit up for money for people who never wanted to work)..I got out about twenty years ago and canât imagine still sitting there through all that!
I just hope he has some kind of social support besides the one child (maybe other relatives/friends who are out). It would definitely be tough when somebody is older. Iâm glad he had the courage to say âenoughâ. đđ»

STAN LIVEDEATH:
What I remember is them stepping up the fervor to pioneer. If you didnât cave in to pressure to pioneer you were looked down on in the religion.
I always felt they were out of touch with reality - like a lot of JWs never really in the workforce. But, I let all the talk go in one ear and out the other and itâs good that I did because I planned for Retirement. Would anybody support me if I didnât?? Nah, I didnât think so.
From what I have read, some have done well for themselves. If not, brothers with businesses will have to help them. I have NO interest in anybody who knocked me for my full time job. Go tell somebody else.

Circuit overseers wives.

but then i left 40+ years ago.. any recollections of those females that led such an unnatural existence?.
those that i recall seemed such aloof creatures..

STAN LIVEDEATH:
They seemed nice enough to me but then again, other than the one time I may have been in a car group with one, I never spent any time around circuit overseerâs wives like other people on the forum may have.
I suppose I never really gave COâs (or their wives) a second thought.

DESIROUS OF CHANGE:
No, itâs not âkookyâ as I have had several people say that they suspect this very same thing..It is evil though..The problem is the unintended consequences that the virus apparently can also kill people not in the supposed âtargetâ demographic of elderly and those with serious underlying conditions.
Iâd hate to believe in any such conspiracy ..but it does make you think.

I agree with you that young people who leave the JW (or any) religion because they want a lifestyle without rules will not only end up disappointed - they can end up in serious trouble.
There is no such thing as a lifestyle without rules. Thatâs a fallacy..Being free from any oppressive situation doesnât mean there are âno rulesâ, it just means the person governs themselves (based on common sense principles).
I also left the religion at an older age and for âintellectualâ reasons. I still have the same lifestyle but minus all the B.S. or drama.

CARLA:
As for you telling off the MS and the elder:.. I can only imagine the anger you probably felt at the intrusiveness and overstepping of boundaries that occurred when your husband got involved with the religion. We all know how they feel about wives and women in general.
Iâm single and have to stand up for myself in life. Itâs just as well Iâm out of the JW religion because at this point in my life I would have No tolerance for them.
I donât expect to encounter them anywhere and they havenât done D to D in ages..but if I ever were faced with nervy types like years ago, something worse than âpiss offâ might be used.

ALIVE:
This is the first place I read about this change of terminology...How can anybody keep up with this?
I also believe the cost of leaving is great for many JWs:..they are shunned. Doesnât matter if they didnât do anything morally wrong in a scriptural sense.
It must be particularly hurtful for people who were popular and in the thick of things with a great social life and many friends - only to see it dry up overnight. Thatâs why anybody planning their exit has to prepare with new acquaintances and contacts beforehand!
I guess I was fortunate in the sense that I was not popular and had few friends in the religion since I worked full-time..I was already an âoutcastâ in their eyes - so it didnât matter all that much when I âFadedâ.

Do You Ever Wonder Where Are They Now?
by minimus ini remember so many witnesses who were pretty liberal minded.
i knew some that were the ones someone would talk to to get a âbalanced â perspective.
they were not hardliners.

MINIMUS:
I remember one or two back in the day who I was able to have an intelligent practical conversation with. They tended, though, to keep certain conversation pretty much to themselves or select company.
These were older JWs and were among the few who didnât push âpoverty and pioneeringâ. They realized I had to work to support myself. They ALREADY earned their living/pension so they were sympathetic and told me to do my âbestâ.
Sadly, most of these people of the Greatest Generation have passed away.

DESIROUS OF CHANGE:
You are so right! It made me furious when some idiot would refer to a picture in a book or magazine as though it were from the First Century.
Nobody had video recorders or cameras back then so why the stupidity about this??? ..This is simply modern-day artwork depicting somebodyâs OPINION and what they want brainwashed R&F to believe actually happened centuries ago. The Bible says something else.
