Yes, a lot of Witnesses did over-use that name. And, too many imagined they were ‘owed’ something by other people there!

I noticed that if anybody in the congregation had anything desirable..like a trade, or a business or auto repair shop like your family had..these Users automatically imagined they should get things for next to nothing if not free!..Who gave them this sense of entitlement?? They were misled.

There is also something to be said for keeping your business to yourself as much as possible. Although, I realize that a person’s general story will become known before long. The word ‘No’ should become something people learn how to say when dealing with JWs..Even if you have to practice in front of a mirror.

After I saw the bad attitude towards me and other people with decent jobs or a career, I made sure I said NO to anything any nervy Witness would ask. After a while they didn’t ask anymore..These hypocrites didn’t get to criticize me and then ask for money..It doesn’t work that way!

JW’s and Charity Organizations

i was wondering if anyone is aware of the jw’s in general being involved financially and/or as volunteers in charity organizations?

i was a born in jw for 56 years and left in 2016. as far as i remember there was never any encouragement to help in the community in any way.

including soup kitchens, tutoring at schools, united way, etc.

I can’t believe the ‘brothers’ came around asking for cash because they learned there was a family inheritance!!!

Never heard this before but they are becoming ever nervier.

Maybe somebody in your immediate family or JW relative bragged about it. The fact is:..somebody opened their mouth.

I never had Witnesses in my family so the idiocy of blabbing personal business - especially financial affairs - (like a 5 year old child) was incomprehensible to me..Any adult who opens their mouth like this doesn’t have the brains they were born with as far as I’m concerned.

I’m glad your dad had the sense to tell the ‘brothers’ to ‘get lost’ whether it was tactful or not.. They deserve to be told off a lot worse!

Counseling for Ex JW

i have been thinking that it would be very nice if the us government would be willing to fund ex jw counseling services all over the united states.

i understand that many counselors do not really understand ex jw issues but we can educate them if we have additional funds, etc…if someone here is willing to write a letter to their local representative about it, that would be great!

From what I have heard not all therapists are knowledgeable about cults/high control groups. I imagine it would be frustrating to have to literally explain from A to Z to some professional.

I never got therapy when I ‘Faded’ from the religion but maybe I wasn’t as bad off since I was not raised in this awful religion.

I do remember feeling somewhat annoyed when I met people who knew absolutely nothing about the Witnesses. The average person knows nothing about them except they go door to door.

The uninformed public sadly cannot know the damage that can be done to people - and only see (as you mentioned) ‘a quirky group that dresses nice’, etc…They also wonder how you ‘could have fallen for this’.🙄 I try to explain that “I was only interested in end-time prophecy and they misrepresented what they were”.

Yes, it was a mistake and a lesson learned but I’m glad I’m Out. At least I quit smoking 😊.

Yes, the JW religion gives nothing to anybody. This is in sharp contrast to the churches of Christendom who have all sorts of programs to help people.

What’s particularly shameful is these laid-off JW workers were working for the religion, not anybody else!..The idea they are sent back to home congregations with the assumption that people THERE are going provide for their needs is outrageous.

Does anyone have the audacity to imagine they are going to corner ‘responsible’ people criticized for having decent jobs???

I am so Glad I am long gone from this hypocritical religion!!…I have no interest or pity for pioneers who didn’t plan for their own future!..Also, the ones kicked out of bethel are going to need brothers with businesses to give them jobs.

Too many of these bethelites made stupid or derogatory remarks about people with jobs. As far as I’m concerned, they richly deserve to know what it’s like to work for a living like the rest of the world they looked down on when at their ivory tower at bethel.

I was that ‘low hour publisher’. I came into the JW religion with a full time job which I refused to quit to appease older busybody hypocrites with cushy lives!!

I was also scrutinized because of figure and clothing. I tried to dress modestly. People like me ‘on the fringes of the congregation’ were targets of gossip. I had few friends..In my opinion, Witnesses who are born-in are at the heart of the gossip and perceive themselves as just a little bit better than other people there…To me, they were just mentally-stunted morons. I saw Stepford-type wives and men with a 1950s type mentality.

I am Retired and Out many years. I am thankful that I resisted gossip/shunning all those years ago. I have seen all the changes in the religion. The people who avoided me back then because I worked and didn’t ‘pioneer’ have reached retirement age.. I’m glad I’m not around them to hear appeals for money because I would have no pity for them.

Even back when I was a ‘believer’ I was aware of JWs who were con-artist types.

Did I have these instincts because I was not raised in the religion and worked? Who knows? All I knew was there were people there who were full of sh#t and I avoided them.

I also feel that even though in the world you will find con artist types, I believe they are over-represented in the religion.

Again, I blame the stupid culture there with ‘no boundaries’ and being told you should ‘widen out’. But, what were you widening out to? ..I’m not being targeted by people who are desperadoes or crazies. (In case any aren’t aware, people with serious ‘issues’ were brought into the religion the last two decades. They did this to fill the empty seats in the halls.)

The demographic in the religion has changed for the worse.

I also think the culture of the religion inadvertently creates very adept Users. People may not have joined as one but they become one. Some of them now are older and more desperate and they don’t feel shame..All these are reasons contributing to why I’m Glad to no longer be in this religion.

Everything you say is true, especially the part about if a JW is not liked by another their reputation will be trashed..I also agree that the religion encourages snitching and gossiping. In fact, they go hand in hand.

Also what you said about knowing elders and MSs’ who divulge things is sad and I have known about this all along. There is No confidentiality and certainly No accountability.

I will say this though: I knew of old time elders who would Never do this. But the old adage about ‘the chain is only as strong as its weakest link’ holds true. It makes No difference if five elders are ‘by the book’ and discreet and there is One who doesn’t care and opens his mouth!..The secrets are out and the cat is out of the bag.

But, the heart of the matter: in my opinion I truly do not believe the Witnesses REALLY care about confidentiality or anybody’s privacy. They are the antithesis of privacy. They only give lip service to the idea of privacy. Anybody who believes they really care about the average R&Fs privacy, dignity or rights has been fooled.

Elders didn’t ‘quell’ anything.

If anything, they told their wives. Then these stupid women told every douchebag pioneer (who actually felt entitled to know EVERYTHING about everybody). I’m not exaggerating when I say everything.

I came to know gossip of a very personal and embarrassing nature about certain people there. This could only have gotten out if some elder opened his mouth. Somebody revealed a tidbit that some stunted born-in in the hall was a source of much gossip and made sure any new brother came to know the dirt on people. I believe this person came to know these things from their mom who was an older pioneer and heard much!

Also, what happens when an elder leaves or steps down? What happens to all the confidential info they came to know? They aren’t held to the confidentiality standard of an attorney or a doctor..The JW religion is a silly thing..So, Everybody is at the mercy of an ex-elder’s discretion. This is assuming he even has any.

I hope nobody believes they have any confidentiality in this stupid chaotic religion/organization or whatever you want to call it. Anything about anybody has been repeated by many ignorant and unaccountable people.

Dating in the Org

What an awful position to be in: to be held responsible for somebody else ‘looking good’! Never mind all his rules and regulations..There is so much garbage women put up with in a marriage. It’s having a boss for your whole life!!! It’s bad enough about verbal abuse and having to deal with bad personality traits. But, once somebody raises their hands, it’s Over. It wouldn’t matter if I were living in luxury and/or had kids, I could not stay.

I know about life not being ‘all roses’ but having peace of mind is priceless.

In times past and even in other parts of the world today women are dependent on men for the food and shelter over their heads. They tolerate Everything!..I wasn’t raised a JW and am grateful I live in a Western country and was able to support myself and Retire.

More importantly, I’m Glad I never listened to JW busybodies who tried to interfere in my personal business back when I was younger.

I am sorry about those you mention with ‘relative poverty imposed by beliefs’. I’m glad I NEVER followed these ‘beliefs’ or teachings!

Definitely the churches of Christendom give more support..The JW religion gives nothing to anybody!!!

Any ‘help’ a person would get would be because somebody takes up a collection…They would even have the balls to go up to people criticized as ‘bad association’ because of having a career or full time job and ask them!!..Yes, they’d be cornered by some chump with an envelope. This is why I’m GLAD I’m no longer there!

Hopefully, this widowed sister in this fictional JW fantasy situation had a husband who provided well. Otherwise, she’s going to have to get a J.O.B.

Maybe if she’s lucky she won’t be shunned by certain married women in the congregation (as is the custom) who will now see her as a threat as a youngish attractive woman.
