Disfellowshipping

so last night my bible study group was discussing the healing of the blind man in john's gospel.

ch 9 .

the man's parents were reluctant to say much on the subject.

As a former Catholic once involved with the JWs for a period of time, I always felt they were jealous of the Church.

Once, a younger sister brought a non-JW friend to the hall (hoping the JWs might impress her). Instead, somebody on the podium made what they thought was a humorous derogatory remark about the Catholic church. This made a bad impression on the visiting friend and they were no longer interested in the JWs.

As far as JWs disfellowshipping members: well, let them keep it up! It might not seem like it at first but many DFd people in time come to appreciate it was a blessing in disguise! Many did research while out and came to know all the bad things that were hidden from them. Now, it’s a joke. The religion that was arrogantly pushing people out and thinking they were going to get them to come crawling back on their bellies - now can’t get people to stay in! ..Just look at the campaigns to track down inactives and faders.

I’m sure this two-year break from in-person meetings because of Covid must have dealt the religion a blow..It remains to be seen just how many people have no intention of returning.

so imagine a governining body member faithful slave who's uncle wrote the new world translalation bible and predicted 1975 would be armagedon writes a book in 1980 that changed my whole life...thank you raymond franz for setting me and my wife free love this man forever.

Regarding what the reference librarians told you: I can perfectly understand why obsolete science books are removed.

As far as those other books that are ‘rarely’ checked out: what about all the other miscellaneous books; cook books, various autobiographies, novels about ‘Lassie’ or ‘Hardy Boys’, etc. that can still be found in some libraries?..Surely people aren’t checking them all out left and right? So, I have a problem with reference librarians removing books on atheism, evolution, etc..This sounds like it could reflect a bias on the part of some of these librarians. Maybe they are religious local ladies? Also, what if JWs work in the local library? Can you imagine if a doubting JW went into their local library inquiring about CofC? I’m sure that would certainly be reported back!

When I was in grade school, a relative married a Mormon. I met the elderly parents and liked them so much I was sorry they left.

Even though I’m not interested in the religion, my feelings about Mormons are neutral. I know they are clannish (whether this is good or bad). I also see they believe in higher education and are prosperous.

I just know the impression I get is in sharp contrast to Jehovah’s Witnesses who turn out painfully uneducated people with harmful beliefs who are oftentimes dysfunctional and a drain on taxpayers!

How many here turned Athiest or did not and why??

me i slowly came to see religion was a crutch we use to dream of a better "afterlife"....i feel half my life was wasted building an organisation that had no criminal mastermind behind it...just alot of mislead people looking for leadership.

People also forget a Revolutionary War was fought and I live in a relatively free country (last time I checked)…Why, then, would I forget I am Free (especially as a woman) and then put myself in servitude to any cultic religion that acts as a little country within a country and then tries to strip me of my freedom, rights and dignity???..They wanted me to abase myself and pursue poverty.. For any newbies reading this: Yes that’s what a cult/high control religion tries to do when you analyze it..It’s Freedom of Religion gone too far..Don’t misunderstand me, though. I still believe in religious freedom. This is just what happens when the pendulum swings too far to one side!

Jw's sending me invites and letters, I don't get it.

first off, i have made it real clear with jw's my thoughts on being a jw.

i'm out, there is no coming back.. second, i'm on their " do not call list" .. so why now all of a sudden my mailbox is getting bombed 💣 by their memorial invites and letters?.

don't they follow their do not call list?

Yeah they want you. I agree it probably wouldn’t be wise to respond to those letters. If you did.. I’ll bet the local posse will come knocking on your door soon…Unless maybe you relish the idea of being ambushed when you step out your door or pulling up in the driveway 😜.

Right. And how could it, possibly?

Religious type studies have no practical application in the everyday world of commerce and business, etc. They aren’t designed for critical thinking and dealing with life. That might explain how years ago it was men in monasteries who pondered over these things.

If everybody did what JWs suggest everybody should do 🙄….absolutely nothing else would get done! There wouldn’t be crops, inventions or anything else for that matter.

After I walked away from the JW religion I gradually became an agnostic. I was raised Catholic and got involved with JWs as a young adult.

My bad experience in the JWs turned me off religion in general. I have no use for any of it. To me, religions are a place where some people look to lord over others and also, sadly, where some unscrupulous individuals are looking for an easy life where they don’t have to work like other human beings.

But, to each his own. Some people want to jump into another belief system. Let them. I don’t ‘need’ to belong to anything or ‘go’ anywhere.

You could try your local library and might get lucky..However, I heard years ago that books critical of the JW religion have frequently been known to just ‘disappear’ from local libraries!..Gee I wonder why? 😒

You might be better off either ordering it online if you want your own copy or have somebody lend you theirs.

I’m glad common sense ruled when you realized that nobody was going to look out for you except you. I pulled young pioneers aside and privately told them they better plan for the future. I hope some did.

I don’t know how any of that older generation could look at themselves in the mirror after they preached poverty for gullible younger people - meanwhile they were living in the lap of luxury..Most went to their graves after living a cushy life!

Words cannot describe how thankful I am that I did not listen. The religion is hateful with the attitudes they engendered in the congregations, and they can never be forgiven. But, I’m glad that I resisted the pressure..Whether this was because I wasn’t raised a JW, who knows..But, I’m glad to not be there now. Anybody who looks halfway decent will be targeted left and right..No way I’d tolerate being around this.

Your referring to them ‘distancing believers from other believers’ just highlights to me the class distinctions within the Witness religion. I was well aware of those class distinctions back then when I was criticized for having my full-time job.

I was considered an outcast and ‘not spiritual’ 🙄 because I didn’t ‘pioneer’. They made sure I was ignored and not invited anywhere…But, I paid no attention to all the criticism.. And when the time came, I Retired..Hopefully today in 2022, all these self-righteous critics who wouldn’t be caught dead with a full-time job..can pay their bills.

If these people are needy/can’t put food on their table they BETTER call someone who cares, namely their so-called spiritual friends who they should have on speed dial.
