Spiritually sick? I don't think so. In fact, I have some peace of mind because I am out of it all. It always used to bother me that they claimed they were God's organization - as though He endorsed them. Almost like a celebrity who endorses a certain product in a TV commercial. They take that scripture and just apply it to themselves and we are supposed to take their word for it.

Are you "Spiritually Sick"???
by JH inwhy is it that a jw is considered "spiritually sick" by the elders and the members of the congregation, if he suddenly decides to stop going to meetings and doesn't see eye to eye with the organization anymore?.
i see people who belong to other faiths, and are very active and seem spiritually healthy, even though they don't believe in what jw's teach.. .
i've been told by elders, that i was "spiritually sick".

I know a girl that has been DF 4 times and the elders told her to get lost?
by booker-t inyou would think after one time of humiliation a person would run from the jw's and never ever step foot inside a kh but my co-worker is in her mid-40's and has been df a total of 4 times since her baptism in 1979. i have talk to her over and over again but she said she is going to meet with the elders and asked to being reinstated.
she is completed shunned by her jw mom and her uncle is a co. i feel sorry for her because she feels so guilty all the time and fears being destroyed at armaggeddon.
she is totally wasting her life running and begging the elders for forgivness.

You mention California but your story sounds like one near me (Tri-State area)The sister I know has been df'd several times and it was rumored she wanted to come back but was made to feel she wasn't ready. In your story you mention how she was told to come back with a marriage mate - which I suppose would make her less likely to be df'd again. Not to digress too much (and I am sorry if this offends anybody) but it has always been my opinion that many JW females would NOT be there at all if they didn't have a marriage mate. I think they would be disfellowshipped ever other year. They just would not and could not endure as a single woman!

Some Elders Know...
by metatron ini ran into an old elder buddy recently and we got talking.. to put it simply, i don't know how he does it!
- that is, i don't know how he continues to be an elder when i consider.
what he knows about.. he knows about the bulgarian compromise.

Listener:
I think cognitive dissonance is when one believes two opposite and contradictory beliefs simultaneously and the person feels distress and upset over this (because the brain is rebelling against it). Emotional problems will then result.

Do your JW clothes still fit you?
by JH in.

but this year, i couldn't go even if i wanted to..... my jw clothes don't fit me anymore.... i certainly won't spend 200$ just to go to one meeting.....

Yes they do but I got rid of them anyway!! No more long depressing dresses for me! Not that I am going mini but my dresses are more stylish. My whole closet looks new.

If the WT were to "reform" would you stay or go back?
by confusedjw inthis thought has sprung from recent threads and speculation over the new book.
i know many who post here are still active jw's or ones who were df'd, but may have not totally left the belief system.
many have trouble with the methods and policies of the wt concerning dfing, restrictions, blood, local elders etc.

No. I wouldn't bother. Because I know all the things I know and experienced what I experienced, I can never feel the same way about them (or religion) again. Maybe it is like a person who had their mate cheat on them: they can never feel the same.

My JW G.F.-- Need help with cross/crucifex use by the WTS
by PAJA inim trying to get information about the wts belief in the "stake" vs the cross/crucifex for my jw girlfriend.
i need any and all information i can get my hands on.... .
of cross use by the wts, their beliefs and contradictions.

All the research I have done tells me there is more evidence and historical accuracy for a cross than a stake. I think the JWs differ just for the sake of being different.

Planned, talked about....but didn't go........
by 95stormfront inmy wife has been talking up how much she wanted to attend this weekend's one day assembly in rosenburg.
she made all these big plans, had her hair done, been dropping hints all month that she would like it if i attended with her.
(i had no intention of going and listening to that garbage.).

Very funny 95 stormfront!
The JWs had an expression for this: mind over mattress!! This was said to me many times when I just didn't make it out in service on a Saturday morning. (I work full time 5 days a week and need the sleep). Besides, many a time I had gone to a meeting and when it was over I felt empty and lonely and realized my time would have been better doing just about anything else!!

Could a sister have hair this long?
by JH in.
men must have short hair in the org.. does this mean that sisters can have their hair as long as they want?.
-
LongHairGal
My favorite topic! Of course a sister can and should have hair any length she wants - no matter what her age! Remember, women kept their hair long their whole lives for centuries. Short hair came on the scene with the women's suffragette movement. Since then it became normal and, of course, hair stylists love you. Now, I have nothing against short hair and if you have the right hair you can look great. The problem is when society tries to dictate that you should cut your hair when you're over 40. I disagree with that statement!!! I accepted my straight hair and it looks great long! And I work in the business world. It is even easier to keep (for me that is). Besides, I love the way it feels! Contrary to the popular misconception, short hair was harder for me to keep. I constantly had to style it! But I do believe that if a women is older and wears her hair long she has an obligation to the world to keep it nice so people don't view her as a bad example. And, as far as anybody mistaking me for a fundamentalist - if you wear makeup and stylish clothing that will never happen.
If anybody, male or female, has a problem with my long hair they should get over it and get a life.

This makes me laugh. What about those of us who have to play a game of "catch up" because we didn't save enough money because we were told the end was near?

counsel from elders
by bonnzo inhow many have had elder give u this counsel(or if /were an elder given this counsel):
"its come to our attention that u were(fill in space with anything that is up to your own conscience that is ok in wt world such as pg-13 movie, certain music, or choice of entertainmen).
this has offended the conscience of others" then proceeds to counsel u to cease and desist so as to appease the other persons conscience.. isn't this a case of the sensitive conscience forcing me to abide their concience even more so than they claim im offending theirs?

Further to my previous post (forgive me because this topic of counsel makes me angry). First, in all fairness let's admit that sometimes the counsel is deserved. Sometimes the offending brother or sister really needs to be told that they are doing, saying or wearing something outrageous or whatever. The problem lies in the fact that there are no boundaries with this and there some things that are left to personal interpretation. What you sometimes have then is a situation where in certain halls certain elders (or their wives) will go around "counseling" people about anything that gets their nose out of joint. This can range from criticizing people about their dress or any other topic that is not of a scriptural nature.
