Ditto for those Special Assembly Days and for those special tracts, etc.!
Supposed to get us salivating like Pavlov's dogs.

These "special talks" were one of the first things that got me suspicious and thinking they were all about nothing. I remember several years ago when they put out an announcement about some special talk. There was much hype about this talk and wondering what earth-shattering information was to be released. I didn't go but others who went were deeply disappointed because it was a lot of nothing, just an anti-climax.
I am of the opinion that they make these announcements about "special talks" and the like because they are testing the waters to see just how stupid everybody is!! (See the faithful idiots come running). They like yanking everybody's chain and crying wolf! I think they get off on feeling like God!

If there's some good in the Watchtower, why leave it?
by AlmostAtheist inthe post about crisis of conscience in which the poster said he knows there's some bad in the watchtower (as brought out in coc), but there's some good in it too got me to wondering about people that stay for the good in it.. the united states makes some decisions as a country that i don't agree with, perhaps even object strongly to.
but i don't disavow my citizenship.
it's mostly a good place to live, so i stay.. if you want to live in a way that utterly conflicts with the watchtower -- homosexual, multiple sex partners, smoking, whatever -- then you have reason to leave.

I can't believe somebody would say that to you. Because of some other family member they won't bother with you, etc. and the going to hell bit? You are not kidding us are you? And these idiots have the gall to say they are "true Christians". This reeks of superstition. Are we back in the days of the witch trials? The irony of this is that these hypocrites would expect you to help them if they were in trouble and their "spiritual friends" were not around!
If I were in your hall though I would have spoken to you because I don't follow the crowd. In turn, of course, they would shun me which is okay.

Give me ONE good reason why Adam could not have been black?
by nicolaou ini just read love2bworldys thread at did u know about the early white supremicist view of the jw's?
not wanting to hijack or divert that topic i ask the question here.. .
adam was the progenitor of the whole human race, from his genes sprang the negroid, caucasian, mongoloid, indo-european and every other race on the planet.

Years ago there was a book called "Chariots of the Gods" which put forth the premise that man was a cross between the apes and visitors from outer space - with the help of genetic engineering.

You're funny! Yeah. I should put on my head covering LOL - like viking horns!!
I was counseled once on a short skirt and also about a slit in my skirt - so I know the whole drill. They're hung up on modesty, brains, etc. the list goes on and on.
The problem with knowing all these things is that some JWs STILL will not leave because they are afraid that Jehovah is still using this organization so they are afraid they will miss out. I have a problem with their logic though. If Jehovah is cutting them slack for being imperfect, then why isn't he cutting slack to other religions also? Aren't they all wrong in varying degrees?

Also, I see from your pic you are a man.
Things are different for a man there. The one thing I could not stomach was their attempt to exploit people especially women. Always wanting favors (which I would NEVER do). I am no Mother Theresa! I leave that to the other martyrs. They can have the dubious "blessings" thank you very much.
They also didn't understand the concept of boundaries. Never knowing their place. Thinking they could say anything they wanted. Really! Just intolerable to me.

I know there is some good in the WT. Before I found out the truth about them (and I might add most of what I found out I already suspected) I realized that it just did not "work" - even if the doctrines were all correct! This was a decade or so ago when I was really down and doing some soul searching and I came to some drastic conclusions about them. If I were to stay I would have to stay on the very fringes because I want nothing to do with the people. Any service I do would have to be alone because I would only use the bible. Also, I could not in good conscience tell people that it is a loving brotherhood because I do not believe that to be fact. So, you see the dilemma. It is almost impossible to stay there with what I know and feel.

The depictions of Adam and Eve by the WT always seemed to me to be like the Dick & Jane stories. If all the races came from them then the original pair could not have been black or white but something in between. So the depiction of Adam as a white man is not really accurate. It would not be accurate to portray him as black either. But we can speculate forever on what we think they looked like. I am sure they were good looking. There are JWs that used to speculate that Adam & Eve must have looked like Polynesians. The only problem I have with this is where did the redheads and blondes come from? When dark people breed then over a period of time the darker strain becomes more dominant and any lighter strain would die out. It is a mystery.

I'm going to Bethel... Wanna Come?
by RichieRich inso my mother suprised me about a week ago by telling me we are going on a bus trip to bethel from april 13-17. for those of you who aren't used to this concept, american dubs seem to think that packing themselves on the bus with 60 other witnesses and driving for 4 days is somehow going to strengthen themselves spiritually.
well, i doubt that will work for me.
i was just wondering, is there anything i should look for/ be on the alert for?

You just have to realize that these people are not any different from people who make pilgrimages to Mecca or Jerusalem, etc. This may insult them but that is what I believe. There is a similarity.
They feel (at differing levels) that this is a holy place. The only difference is that they are not getting down on their knees and doing any rituals or lighting any candles!!

No offense taken.
Don't worry! I have no high expectations about people in general. You get quite an education about human nature in that place. I have no illusions. The rose-colored glasses came off a long time ago. Ha. Ha. I am not crying in my beer either because these hurts are quite a few years old. It is just interesting the things we tolerated when we were there!
