Good points! Yes, everything is interrelated so it is hard to draw a line. (Kinda like the fact that if you go back far enough, we are all related).
The problem is that they don't extend the same courtesy to the dubs and will split hairs with you!

The Generation Game 10 years on - 1995
by truthseeker init's been roughly ten years since the change in the understanding of the generation was printed in a november watchtower.. while i won't discuss here what everyone already knows about this change, and the effects it had on many people, questions have to be asked.. what happens next for the watchtower society?
where is the leadership?.
in what direction are they headed?.

Other stupid statements people would make from time to time (which would make me very mad) were: "well, the longer the system goes on - the more people can come in and ... "if the end came years ago (blah, blah) would you still be here"?
So you see they can put a positive spin on every depressing thing.

What's the point of being a JW if you are not guaranteed of paradise anyway
by inquirer ini remember talks at the "kingdom ministry" meeting.
and at times, you'd hear talks (in a past tense) about why so and so didn't make it in paradise.
and they'd say dumb things like "oh, he pinoeered, he gave good talks, but he didn't make it because he was a drinker.

This mind game used to get to me too. And then if you got to paradise it sounded like a nightmare anyway. The whole idea is so cruel. An angry god who may or may not kill you. You're damned if you think the wrong thoughts, want things for the wrong reason.
But what always got me was the fact that we have nothing to do with the fact that we are "imperfect" to start with. It's not as though we had perfection and threw it away! We are all paying for Adam and Eve's sin. We were dealt a bad hand. But it's still our fault anyway.

Would you have quit the JW's for a Worldly Person you loved?
by JH inwhen you were a devout jw, and if you would have met a man/women that really pleased you, would you have quit the jw organization for that person, if he/she asked you to?

Yes, in the later years I would have.
This really bothered me that there were next to no eligible brothers around. The only ones around that were available usually had something a little wrong in the head, sorry to say. But yet the org would expect that you would stay single forever. I wonder though if they would have the same feelings if the demographics were reversed. In other words, instead of a ratio of more women to men, there was a ratio of more men to women - and there weren't many women around to choose from.
I wonder then if they would make excuses for the "poor brothers" and let them marry outside.

You know I was only kidding!! But it is really nervy when types like that act like you owe them something. I know anybody can become homeless because of some catastrophe - but they don't usually go around aggressively panhandling!

Even if the sunglasses set you back a lot you shouldn't feel guilty. You work, don't you? According to his logic you shouldn't own anything nice. Maybe you should just give him your wallet.

I know what you mean about those "needy types". If you were a single person on the fringes of the congregation those types always found you. You were a perfect target because you didn't have a mate to intervene! It has been my observation that these needy types fall into two categories: one who is lovable and genuine but a little "off" and the other is an out-and-out con artist!
Unfortunately, the second category did the most damage to unsuspecting persons. What usually went with this picture was an excess of "spirituality", humor, etc. Whenever I used to see this an alarm went off in my head. A type like that came to our hall some years back and I saw all the tell-tale signs of somebody full of it. I mentioned this to a friend who pooh-poohed me. Some JWs can be so naive! A few years down the road I was proved right in my assessment.

I read all those Dan Brown books and was intrigued by his view of the grail legend and Mary Magdalene. I wonder if there is a grain of truth to it and if there was a massive coverup on the part of the early church fathers!
If this is true it would throw the whole christian theology into a cocked hat!

Eye Make-up infor to use with Dubs
by TheListener ini found these articles while researching information on make-up and eye make-up specifically.
although they are not written by the dubs, i could see the same type of argumentation occurring in a wt article.
this might help any who, like me, need to be ready to defend the idea that the society picks and chooses what is acceptable and what is not.

Yes, they do have a lot of nerve. But over the years there would be problems in congs. with this from time to time. It was a combination of fads and fashion, regional attitudes and sadly, biases of people in the hall.
Generally, in an area in or near a large city the women are more fashionable and thus ususally wore more makeup. In more rural areas they wore less or none. For example, you could have a sister with her plain shirt-waist dress with no makeup and another with more of a business suit, coiffed hair and makeup. They are both acceptable. The bible says "modesty and soundness of mind" and as long as they fell within this category it was okay. But I have seen halls where there were too many judgmental matronly older women ganging up on sisters who were perceived as being too fashionable and wearing what they thought was too much makeup. If the offending sister was single or divorced she was treated as an outcast. The older women clearly preferred women like themselves who looked like a loaf of sourdough bread. Sad but true.

While JWs are not totally against makeup per se, you should keep the look on the natural side. If you are a type who likes lots of blue eyeshadow, expect somebody (a mature sister who was put up to it) to pull you aside discreetly and tell you that your makeup is a little heavy.
There was a time in my area some years back that there was a small private war between the no makeup, no frills type and those sisters who were more glamorous. I think it was quietly resolved.
I was and still am of the opinion that nobody's style (or LACK of style) should be forced on me as long as I adhered to basic bible principles.
