Sometimes you can tell and sometimes you can't - depending on how practiced the liar is. With a child it is easier to tell. With an adult it is harder. The funny thing is nobody wants to deal with a liar - not even another liar! But we all sometimes tell a fib or two. The acceptable lies are to spare somebody's feelings. The problem arises when the lying extends into every area. You know the type: ask me no more questions and I'll tell you no more lies! I don't know how a person like that could stand him/herself. They would have very few friends.

Outrageous Housecleaning stories.

i did one job and that was it for me!!
it is certainly no fun cleaning peoples filth but i did hear some weird stories.

Your stories are all very interesting. I was wondering though what you did when you found something revolting (used condom) etc. A friend of mine refused to touch them. She left them there. She also told one householder with a very bad teenage son that she refused to go under his bed for anything.

I don't know how many of you did housecleaning as a JW. Even though I have an office job I tried housecleaning. I did one job and that was it for me!! It is certainly no fun cleaning peoples filth but I did hear some weird stories.
One woman I know had a househoulder ask her to give her an enema! She declined, of course. Is that nervy or what? I also heard another story about somebody who told the JWs she used another cleaning service and the man was taking too long in the bathroom. She went to take a peek and he was taking a shower!!

No. You don't have it wrong. They do cling to this clergy-penitent thing (ecclesiastical privilege, I think). If this law goes through this will absolutely kill them to report these things. But this has to be changed. No religion should be able to hide behind this anymore!

back when i was in high school i was in deca...i won national trophies for public speaking.......upon gradrution...i was offerd a scolarship to a major college....for public speaking.....but the elders conveinced me to go into the pioneer service...i did a dead end job to cover expenses...and it became my permant job when i got married a copule of years later.....with no college...and almost no help to find another job...to rake care of my wife and three kids...i feel i might have thrown my life away....well onr good thing about being on dialsys is ill get an education.donald

I agree with you that it has been dumbed down and so have many things in this country. Nevertheless, people should get it anyway. Older persons who got their degree years ago seem to have a better education generally. This is especially evident in their grammar skills. I think in this country education is a big business and they keep raising the bar. In part, this is done because certain high school grads in certain areas have deplorable skills. Also, certin jobs that didn't used to require college now require some college credit (firemen for one). Because they are inundated with applicants, this is probably done to exclude many candidates.

What do I tell my children?

first some clarification: i have been in the "truth" for 35 years, and although i have never been particularly active in the ministry .
for example: my 18 year old son really wants his ear pierced.

i teeter on that myself.
but i have toyed with hooking to a little country church with some friendly people to associate with.

I am a fader and haven't officially left. I do not think I would join another religion. I am sick of religion. The issues I have go way beyond the JWs. They have to do with the very nature of god himself.
Maybe someday but not now.

Sorry your feelings got hurt but the JWs feel it is an act of unfaithfulness to god to disobey this command not to talk to a DFd person. I have people shunning me now and I am not even DFd!
The way this makes me feel is: well, I understand the logic of why they do what they do, e.g. they feel you are not toeing the line so they hope to "adjust" you by not talking to you - but this does not make me want to do anything to "go back" (I don't feel I am doing anything wrong anyway). I simply don't need these people. They don't realize it but they are not missed! Please don't think this is sour grapes on my part because it is not. Absense does not make my heart grow fonder. I accept the loss.
