  Cleaner air, cleaner water, a safer environment, better made clothing and shoes, more jobs, cheaper and better housing, a sense of innocence, fewer nervous and mental ailments (as a result of a more complicated world no doubt), more polite people, doctors who make house calls, better health care, etc.

  Did you think they were hooked on titles and "classes"?

  i couldn't stand all the titles and categories they had!

  i felt they were hooked on respect which maybe in some cases bordered on adulation.

  i had a problem with this because i always saw it as unchristlike.

  Thanks for reminding me of all of them! I never actually sat down and wrote them all out. Looking at that list it is reminiscent of what "worldly" corporations would do. But the dubs have them beat!
  
  They remind me so much of the pharisees! And as the scripture says, they were afraid they would lose their place and their nation.

  perhaps i would.. struggeling with doubts of course, but going to the meetings and turning in 2 or 3 hours on my report every month like i used to.... what about you guys?

  I had to stop smoking in order to be baptized. It was probably the hardest thing I ever did but I am glad.
  
  Probably one of the few good things I accomplished as a dub.

  i got in some heated discussions years ago over what i would and would not tolerate from people with regard to abuse on a personal level.

  we were always fed the line that we should forgive our brother, etc.

  What I am struck with most of all is that their attitude is opposite of the mind of Christ, especially the posts about elders. In fact, I think most of them are practicing for their position as "princes in the new earth". Well, they have no business acting the part now.

  WTS Bills US JWs $8.4 million for Traveling Overseers

  being announced at service meetings this week at all us congregations:.

  a letter read during the announcements states that due to increased costs of health insurance and vehicles provided for traveling overseers (circuit and district overseers) the watchtower bible and tract society has determined the need to ask for a specific "contribution" for the "traveling overseer assistance arrangement".. .

  until this date expenses of this sort were paid from the worldwide work or general fund of contributions.. .

  What also gets me about this is that it flies in the face of sanity, self preservation and self-respect. It also goes against the scripture that says you are to love yourself.
  
  I really feel they wanted to rob you of your self-respect most of all because people with no self respect will tolerate anything.

  Does Devil Talk Irritate You?

  i enjoy reading the bible on my own since i left the jw's.

  i get extremely irritated when other people talk to me about how satan is causing certain things in my life--example is if i'm not getting along with a coworker or anything like that.

  (my husband also blames satan).

  Yes it does irritate me because years ago some sisters went off the deep end about things being demonized, etc. One sister made trouble for a certain other person saying things in her house were demonized.
  
  The truth is this person had psychological problems and whenever she had a problem she didn't look inward - what she did was look around to put the blame on something or someone else.

  I got in some heated discussions years ago over what I would and would not tolerate from people with regard to abuse on a personal level. We were always fed the line that we should forgive our brother, etc. etc. They kept quoting the scripture about "putting up with one another".
  
  What I am referring to is that certain people there had an attitude that other people were supposed to take their guff. I think they got sadistic pleasure from doing this. Like they were playing out some dominant role at somebody else's expense. I know of a woman who has a jekyll-hyde personality who is very discourteous to other women, expects to be forgiven and wants all kinds of perks from everybody!
  
  I felt that this was the height of arrogance because who has a right to presume that they should be a test to anybody?
