I thought about this too. But, if there was once a canopy around the earth, and if the ozone layer was intact, then we would not have to worry about getting burned, with skin cancer, premature aging, etc.
This is not how it was supposed to be.

light skin: so much for intelligent design...
by googlemagoogle in... and evolution, by the way.
if we were designed by an intelligent creator, why the heck do we light-skinned people get burnt to death when the sun is shining?
not very intelligent design... .

JW dating sites and the number of divorced!
by toladest ini was curious to see if i knew anyone that would post on a jw dating site so i checked out jw connections that is linked to on this page.
i did not find anyone i know but i was kinda shocked to see the number of ones there that were "divorced, but free to marry".
is this a big problem now or is it just that more divorced jw's use the web to find "mates".

Sure, don't you all know how it is done?
This is the recipe for a dub who wants out of a marriage:
Cheat on your spouse. Get disfellowshipped. Then come back with a new mate, maybe a new child in tow. Presto! New life! Fresh start! Soon, they will be reinstated and raising their hands at the meetings and commenting. Like nothing ever happened!
I am sure most halls are filled with at least a few of these people. -

Frog:
Your story about the girl who told the principal "but I am one of JWs..." reminded me of something many years ago.
An older sister related to me a conversation she had at one of the doors. She got into a conversation with another older lady. They were talking about finding work. Anyway, the sis. tells the householder "well, we are Jehovah's Witnesses and we can't lie". She said the lady just looked at her and nodded her head. Well, I thought this was the stupidest, most presumptuous thing in the world to say to anybody! I would have laughed out loud if anybody said this to me with a straight face! (And this was back in the days when I was very green as to what the dubs were all about). I would never say this to anybody.
Over the years I came to know that not only was this statement NOT true but the opposite was also true. Not all "worldly" people were dishonest liars! -

Idiot Witnesses
by RichieRich inlast night, a brother gave a talk, and referenced the sun.
in his talk he said two very interesting things:.
"the largest star in the universe, the sun provides light to the farthest reaching corners of our galaxy.

What do you expect?
These are the same morons who at the book study would point to a picture in one of the books and ask the question: "what does the picture show" or "look at the expressions on the faces" (as if there were a photographer or somebody with a video in the first century). This really used to send me.
Doesn't anybody there actually think? These pictures are nothing more than somebody's art work regarding a particular scripture. But these people would carry on and comment as if they were looking at photographs being passed around in a court room.

Wow, is it that many years ago?
I went to see it on a first date with somebody. We also had to wait on a long line that went around the block.
But I enjoyed it.

A newbie's impression on this board, pros and cons
by smelly onions incons.
i don't know who is scarier, the jw's or some people on this board.
man, r u guys bitter?
-

Dear Smelly:
I just love it when people like yourself make statements that people on this board take all the responsibility for what happened to them and, in effect, exonerating the dubs for anything. As it is, they have no accountability - so don't enable them even further.
You are being hypocritical to a large degree because many problems of the people here are because they were OBEDIENT to what they were told, sorry and stupid as that may be now. You are in deep denial if you think otherwise. So you are actually blaming the victim.

Now that you are out, do you have a WANDERING EYE?
by zagor inafter many years of repression do you now find hard to restrain you natural feelings?
it doesnt have to be wrong as one cousin told me, you admire beauty of the sunset, the song of birds; you appreciate exotic meal and equally you can now more appreciate the natural beauty of opposite sex.
reason why im asking is because today ive met a dub from my former congdubgration who immediately assumed i was "immoral".
-
LongHairGal
That really kills me, how they automatically assume that you MUST be immoral. (It really makes you wonder what THEY are suppressing).
I am more moral than most of them. In fact, if some of them were not married, they would be disfellowshipped for immorality almost every other year. The reason I say this is that a few of them had this problem before they were married. They certainly don't have control of their vessel. -

A big problem for JW's in the UK?
by Jim Dee infrom the sky news web site - 23.06.05giving the cold shoulderdoorstep salesmen who cold-call are to be targeted with the launch of a new scheme banning them from certain areas.
residents who feel harassed by their tactics will work with police to create no-entry zones for them under a plan by the trading standards institute.. .
the no-go zones could cover anything from a street to an entire estate and will also help combat so-called "distraction burglaries", which have been linked to cold-calling.. persistent doorstep sellers would then be reported to the authorities for follow-up action.. ron gainsford, chief executive of the institute, said: "people are sick and tired of uninvited doorstep callers.

Does anybody remember in the last few years in New Hampshire (I think) two young people who did door to door canvassing commited a murder. They met their potential victims at the door with their phony questionnaire (politically related, I think).
So you see, there can be a danger posed to the public by people who go from door to door for any reason. -

Tertiary education
by Spanners inhi, my sister is a jw and last year was her final year of secondary school (17/18 years old over here), she received the prize for best student overall in the whole school.
she's always wanted to go to university and become a lawyer and now since becoming a jw has changed her mind and is working in a restaurant clearing tables.
which is a bit of a joke, because she'll end up stuck in that job for the next 30 years.. she doesnt want to go to university because "armageddon is coming soon so theres no point".

NeonMadman:
I am glad you are getting an education for your personal satisfaction. I know what you mean about how it won't change career prospects at this stage of the game.
People don't realize that when you don't do things in life (like getting an education) in the proper time frame when you are supposed to get them - everything is all thrown off! This is no joke! You would have to start at entry level in whatever profession you are seeking. You would face age discrimination, etc. It would be damn hard! You almost can't make any major career changes in midlife unless you start your own business. The only exception I know of is when somebody is already in a profession and wants to go into a related field - and lots of times it helps if they have connections. Not to mention, what about today's shrunken job market?
The reason they (dubs) don't want people to get an education is because they fear loss of control. Someone once told me that brothers with a college education "have a problem accepting counsel". So, they (dubs) would ruin many young people's futures all so that a few insecure men there can feel better about themselves now. -

Them thinking that pioneering is equal to my full time job!
by LongHairGal inthis was a topic that annoyed me and i got into a bit of an argument years ago over this.. some sister (who never worked a day in her life i might add) with the cushy life, affluent husband thought that because she pioneered it was equal to me having a full time secular job.
there were others there who naively thought the same thing.
somehow i gave them an inferiority complex because i worked so they had to dream this up to make themselves feel better.. while i agree that someone who pioneers may be physically tired at the end of the day, there is no comparison to what i have to deal with in going to and from and being on a full time job.
-
LongHairGal
Thanks for all your replies. Wow, this topic really presses a lot of buttons!
Delilah: you are right when you say pioneering is a different kind of tired as compared to the stressed out I-wanna-kill-myself-or-somebody else tired you feel from a secular job.
Panda: you are very very very right when you say that single brothers in the hall get all kinds of attention and they don't have to cook for themselves. (The single sisters can drop dead it seems.) It seems everybody (esp. older sisters) are tripping over themselves trying to help these "poor" brothers.
Their calendars are all solidly booked with dinners they accept month after month, year after year (and their consciences don't bother them) from sisters who they MUST know care about them (but who they are not really interested in). Is this being an opportunist or what? This would be tantamount to me accepting dates from a man I don't really care about. I feel I would just be using him.
But I have a conscience.
