I also remember hair-raising drives to conventions years ago. Nowadays, the roads are far worse. I have a fear that I didn't have twenty years ago.
You have people on cell phones plus many immigrants with questionable driving skills not to mention road rage.
These things didn't exist years ago.

What really bothers me about my JW research.
by ithinkisee insome of you may know, but i have been on a serious journey through watchtower "theology", and by association, have gone back all through the history of christianity.
i know many on this list have gone thru the same thing.
i have checked out probably 100 archeological, religious, and history books from the library.

The word that best describes them and sums it all up is UNACCOUNTABLE!!!
And I have a real problem worshiping the god who allowed this to happen.

Dragonlady:
Regarding conventions without a/c: After the torture endured at Yankee Stadium years ago, I vowed never to attend another convention that was not in an air conditioned place. Finding a bathroom was just part of the problem.
It was unendurable torture and you got next to nothing out of it. All your efforts went into keeping cool and hydrated! Never mind taking notes and paying attention. -

i asked her if she would mind if we did a weekly prayer vigil and she said that she would appreciate it.
she thinks that thursdays would be good since that is when she goes to the doctor to receive the chemo.

Does the Watchtower really promote the fruitage of the spirit?
by JH inon the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 mildness, self-control.. .
take them one by one, and give examples how the watchtower doesn't promote the fruitage of the spirit with everyone.. love....conditional love at best.
joy.....oh, the joy of attending 5 meetings a week and field service while others have normal lives.

In all honesty, without being sarcastic, the only fruitage of the spirit I ever personally developed (but lost) was long suffering. The reason I say this is because I always thought things would get better the longer I stayed there. They didn't.
Unfortunately, what I witnessed in other people (with a few exceptions) was something other than fruitages of the spirit. Too many people gossipped.
There was an overwhelming spirit of judgmentalism. Somebody once told me that there can be no love in a heart that is full of judgmentalism. This person is not speaking to that person and so on. Meanwhile, these dopes would expect the shunned person to help them if their so-called spiritual friends were not around.
Also class distinctions and labeling (e.g. pioneer, etc.). Isn't everybody there supposed to be equal? Ha, ha. What a joke!
I am sorry to say that the bad outweighed the good. -

Is WTBS now encouraging witnesses to go into business?
by zagor injust wondering if youve noticed the same thing.
last few assemblies ive ever visited ive noticed frequently one phrase brother so and so, an elder, etc, and also running his own business ive heard this time and time again when theyd introduce someone to preset their experience and if im not wrong even once or twice when theyve introduced a new speaker.. .
ive also heard from others who have noticed the same lately though most of them are interpreting it along the lines well, it is just a good example of how it is possible to be a self-employed witness and not be part of this corrupt business world.

It wouldn't surprise me if they are doing this.
Maybe it is a good thing. If you think about it, then they can't be a liability to a "worldly" employer. Surely, everybody has heard at least one story about a dub who worked in a hospital who divulged confidential information about another straying dub who may have had some forbidden procedure done. -

A couple of years ago at Nassau Coliseum I was waiting on a long ladies room line. The stupid girl supervising the whole thing got a brain storm (or a brain fart it seems). She decided to take the last half of the line and put it first. In doing so, she put at least fifteen people ahead of us. If I really had to go bad I would have gone to the head of the line and told her off.
Real stupidity! -

In recent years I heard a story about a woman in a coma who was found to be pregnant! I don't know if this was a hospital or nursing home. Of course, an abortion was performed on her. The poor thing!
I don't even want to tell you what I think should happen to the piece of shit who did this to her. I am sure she was probably violated many times but unfortunately she didn't know what was happening to her. -

Is College now wrong for Jehovah's Witnesses again?
by booker-t ini have been out of the jw's for many years now but i still have devout jw's family members.
and i am attending college now at 40 yrs old working on my ba degree.
i was so happy a few years ago when my jw mom told me that the wt is slacking off on telling jw's teenagers that college is bad and it is ok to attend college and universities.

This topic has been covered on this forun many times before but I guess it still needs to be covered for those of us who are new to all this.
Yes, they are again denouncing higher education. Another hypocritical stance!Out of one side of their mouth they are saying "get it" and out of the other side they are saying "don't get it". They make disingenuous statements about this topic.
They have NO ACCOUNTABILITY for whatever happens to anybody who believes them and follows what they say! They will not be paying your bills either. They have no programs for the elderly, no retirement plans. You are on your own. They also must feel that money grows on trees because, after all, how do we get money? We work, right? If you have less education, you are usually employed in a lesser job. A lesser job means less money, right? (If they had brains they would realize that means less money in the contribution box).
For any JW lurkers here: unless you are the child of wealthy parents or have a dad who will set you up in a business, you better think long and hard about the consequences of not getting your education. -

Not everybody in NY has bad grammar. What you witnessed is most common among certain groups of young people. Unfortunately, some of them think it is cool not to speak properly.
Over the years, the education has been watered down. Try comparing it to an instant cake make versus one made from scratch. The results can be heard all around.
My pet peeve is seeing misspelled words on signs.
