I have telephone telepathy to a degree. I once picked up the phone and my friend was there even before the phone rang.
I once knew somebody who was visually impaired and she always knew when the phone was going to ring.

Telephone Telapathy
by lonelysheep inhttp://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060905/od_uk_nm/oukoe_uk_britain_telepathy
has anyone ever experienced this?
i have, as well as with emails and especially text messages.. do you think there's any chance this could be real-that there is a valid, unspoken connection between people who reach out to each other?

WTS "proofs" of Holy Spirit/God's blessing
by Lady Lee inunder_believer just started a thread on the quick builds as proof of god's blessing.
"kingdom hall quickbuilds are only possible with god's holy spirit" .
but it got me to thinking.
-
LongHairGal
It seems the holy spirit is very selective in who it protects.
Does anybody remember back in the 80s when somebody planted a bomb in a Kingdom Hall in Australia?
I don't remember how many people it killed or injured but I remember an article in the mags about a sister who underwent many surgeries.

Why is the WTBTS so against mental health professional treatment?
by Gill infollowing on from sandy's thread on her brother's pt, i wondered exactly why does the wtbts take such an opposing stand to professional mental health treatment?
-
LongHairGal
I don't think they are so against it anymore. How can they be when there are so many people who suffer from depression, etc.?? I think they now concede that people may need medication or counseling.
Some years ago at a district assembly there were talks about not interfering with people's professional treatment, etc. I don't know if anybody remembers this, but I do. The impression I got is that there was a lot of busybody behavior going on and that the elders were not mental health professionals. I think the only admonition was to beware of spiritistic practices.
All in all, they are not crazy about it because I think they are afraid their dirty laundry will be exposed in a therapist session.

Positive discussions only for JW's in service
by moshe ini had the opportunity to talk to two jw's in service today.
they were working a neigborhood that i had a job in.
i really tried to get a good discussion going , but they made it hard.

Moshe:
Not only do they not want "negative" discussions at the doors, they can't deal with negative, controversial or current event discussions IN the car groups either.
I had a problem some years ago with a lame-brain brother who was driving and I was having a backseat discussion with another E. Euro. sister about the politics in her country.
I think the real reason is that the brother in question has a piss-poor education and could not converse on the level we were - so therefore he wanted us to change the subject. Sick, huh.

Can the women wear pants YET?
by annalice ini have not been an active witness active for several years now.
so are the women still being forced to wear skirts and dresses still?
i really think that the whole dress thing has been for some time now very outdated.

JGnat:
You are so right about other sisters being finks. In my hall, practically all the criticism about dress was started by sisters who had a "problem" with other attractive women/girls in the congregation.
They made trouble even when the clothing wasn't immodest. It just had to be too "stylish" or cute. The ringleaders of trouble were older sisters who, because of age, weight, etc., could not wear the stylish, attractive dresses some of the other women or young ladies would wear.
Also, certain elders' matronly-looking wives were known to instigate a campaign of "special needs" talks and even some private admonitions to certain sisters who they perceived were dressing in a "revealing" way [rolls eyeballs].
They had to make trouble for these sisters just so they could feel better about themselves.

Insurance news letter from January 2004 re:hiring JW's
by schne_belly ini hope this is ok to post this news article.
its an insurance/news letter that i purchased online.
i am thinking of distributing to local hospital human resource departments to inform them of their need to ask questions when hiring people with religious views that may affect their work.

I totally agree with you. Because they have absolutely no loyalty to an employer and act like mindless robots, they can and WILL breach confidentiality regardless of consequences to anybody.
They are led to believe they should do this in a round about sort of way, in spite of what anybody says. And they do not care what kind of disaster occurs to others as a result of this. The fact that they will lose their job over this doesn't mean much to them.
Most of them are so ignorant it is painful to even be around them. I have worked with them and can attest to this. They should stick to cleaning toilets or other work where they are self-employed and cannot be a liability to anyone else.

Met a JW while my mom was in surgery
by JWdaughter inso, last thursday my mom had a outpatient surgery at the local clinic.
across the seating area a couple of people were talking and i got the sense that they were jws, though they didn't say anything specific to the org., they did use some catch phrases(brother-to a middle aged black gentleman, by an older white woman).
we were discussing recipes and diet issues, and i mentioned that i had never had brisket until this woman in my church made one.

JWdaughter:
The part where she admits she doesn't believe everything really kills me because there were JWs who would privately say this to me over the years about one thing or another. It also used to get me how they still felt they should go door to door and tell the world these things.
I am firmly convinced many JWs either don't know everything their religion teaches (because how can you keep up with the new light and teachings that are discarded??) OR they don't believe everything their religion claims to believe in.
But as long as they keep their head low and do their field service thing and not make waves nobody cares. The whole religion is really a pathetic joke.

Lack of Trust
by XJW4EVR inhaving been raised in this cult i still struggle with trust issues.
i just can't bring myself to speak about certain things to people that i have formed a relationship with.
i have such a phobia of having that bond of trust broken, that i won't allow myself to be open to people that i have known, and are good friends.

JamesWoods:
I agree with your post. I think the JW experience sours people against religion in general. There are exceptions to this rule because we see ex-JWs who join another religion, etc. As far as I am concerned, I am cured.
My problem is that I am angry at God (I know, it's pathetic). I feel that they hurt many people and they used His name. Does he not care? I have a problem with this. If he doesn't care, and if he feels our life is so worthless that it doesn't matter what we went through, etc., etc., how could I love a God like this??? This all seems fiendish to me. As you said, they lied so much, not only without remorse, but insulting everybody's intelligence in the process.
They really deserve to be punished.

Was Lot A Righteous Man?
by jayhawk1 ini just have to ask this question.
was lot a righteous man?.
2 peter 2:7,8 says "and he delivered righteous lot, who was greatly distressed by the indulgence of the law-defying people in loose conduct- 8 for that righteous man by what he saw and heard while dwelling among them from day to day was tormenting his righeteous sould by reason of their lawless deeds.".

I agree. This is one account in the bible that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I realize they lived in a more "barbarous" time and we can't compare what they would do to what we would do today (at least in the Western world).
But, just the same, I could never swallow the explanation that the JWs would give when this account of Lot offering his daughters to the angry mob was explained. They said something to the effect that because Lot's daughters were supposedly engaged, that the men of the mob would have to answer to whoever these daughters were engaged to if they were to violate them, etc.
This explanation doesn't sit well with me. I think it is entirely possible Lot offered up his daughters because women were so de-valued back then. Lot just wanted to save his own skin. I don't think he was any real bargain as a person. He just had the distinction of being the "right" lineage.
Also, when you think of the account of him in the cave with his daughters and them getting him drunk, etc. to preserve the "seed" [ick] makes you realize they had totally different values than what we have today.
If it were me, the human race could die out before I would DO what they did!

A Friend Just Asked Me Why His JW Family Is Stocking Up On Food......
by minimus inall of his family are witnesses.
they told him they are "storing and stocking up" on powdered milk and non-perishable items.......this is the second time i hear that witnesses are doing this in preperation of "the end".

Never mind the lack of trust in Jehovah.
What happens if there is a real emergency and anarchy in the streets, Katrina style, and you are not around to guard your stock of food and supplies?
What then?
