In all the years that I was there (and I was in a few congregations over the years), I saw many people come and go. Many who came to my cong. were from another congregation. Rumor had it there was a major fall-out or a problem with somebody in the congregation they left behind. Usually the "somebody" (or the "nobody") was an elder or elders. People left because either they or members of their family were not treated right. Unfortunately, when somebody has a problem with an elder and were treated unfairly, the problem never gets solved because the elder usually doesn't have the quality of humility. Of course, the arrogant elder(s) will reason that they are right and it is too bad about you if you don't like it, etc. The problem is that these are all cases of people who don't know the truth about the whole org. and they imagine their problems fall into the category of "human imperfection". So, they end up attending elsewhere and reason to themselves that Jehovah will take care of the problem. The thing is that in many instances the problem they have is not just the result of "human imperfection" but POLICIES of the organization that the person didn't realize were there until they ran smack into them - in which case the only place to go is OUT because these problems will never be fixed! When a jw has a major fall out within the congregation...
by Check_Your_Premises in.... how often does it lead to an eventual exit?.
i know some real nice, joined as adult jw's who have had a major fallout with their cong.. they are model, idealistic jw's.
but politics between these folks and an elder led to him being summarily stripped of his "privileges".

But what if they're right............still the Truth?
by ScoobySnax inthis will probably apply to few here, but to me it'll always be that way.
it's the what if syndrome maybe, but it's always there.
i still think that as a core belief system the jw's have it right, even if their delivery isn't always right.

Surely they are right about a few things but does that justify all the other things that are wrong? I literally could not exist there and play the game knowing what I know. I couldn't go door to door because I don't believe everything they say is true or correct and I couldn't inflict all the wrong I know about them on an unsuspecting householder, etc. Does this make me a bad person? With them it is ALL or NOTHING. There is NO In-Between. Because I refuse to have people micro-manage my life about things that are clearly none of their business, does this make me a bad person? Because I refuse to be disrespected and allow myself to be victimized by all the users, con-artists and whathaveyou that abound there, does this make me a bad person? Because I will not twist my brain into a pretzel until I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown, does this make me a bad person??? I could go on and on. If God is cutting them slack for being imperfect, why isn't he cutting slack to other religions too? Aren't they all wrong in varying degrees?? LHG

American ignorance and the loss of American freedoms
by free2beme ini am forever in amazement at how much americans wine about all that the government has done since 9/11 to prevent more terror attacks.
they wine because they have to do fingerprints now in banks, or how much extra time it takes to get through airport lines.
i work in the telecommunication industry, and i can not believe how much of a big deal people made of the phone tapping done by our government.

As far as people complaining about the loss of freedoms and the hassle they are put through when going to an airport, I know it is necessary but I am angry nonetheless. The reason for everybody's anger is this: they feel it is an ineffective smokescreen when there are open borders where people are streaming through and where EXISTING laws are not enforced and certain agencies are NOT following through on expired student visas, etc., etc. This is why people are angry. They have to NEEDLESSLY give up freedoms because of corrupt bureaucracy in the first place!!! They are the ones who created the problem. They are going to have to stop all this politically correct shit. If we get attacked again it will stop. Besides, it costs time, money and manpower to waste time searching the "wrong" people just so somebody else can feel good. This is a stupid luxury that can't go on forever. LHG

Pilot admits to shooting down 93 receives medal for it
by skyking inhttp://www.911omissionreport.com/93_pilot/ "a unit of 3 f-16 aircraft, were ordered to head toward pennsylvania.
at 0957 they spotted their target; after confirmation orders were received, a one major rick gibney fired two sidewinder missiles at the aircraft and destroyed it in mid flight at precisely 0958".
he was awarded a medal from the governor one year later for his heroic actions.

Sorry if I sound like a conspiracy theorist but I, for one, always believed it was shot down and I don't blame anybody for doing this if it happens to be true. But, because I believe our government feels that it would be unhealthy for its citizens to believe this, they can fake the results and make it look like it did a nose-dive caused by the hijackers. I am not impressed by any "reconstruction" they do in an airline hangar because this can always be faked by experts. The gov. is simply not comfortable with the people thinking or knowing this could have been done deliberately so I do believe they would deny, deny, deny, no matter what! I also feel the same way about that other airliner that went down in Long Island Sound some years back which was rumored to have been accidentally shot down by a missile. LHG

Arthur: Good description. What gets me about the JWs is that they claim to believe in Jesus but it is only lip service. Their actions negate this. They seem to love reverting to the old testament! I think they get off on the whole patriarchy/punishing thing. LHG

Why cant J-Dubs provide more help to their sick?
by JimWood intwo contrasting examples recently crossed through our lives which showed the pathetic ?love?
that is in the kh towards sick members.
1) a brother in his early 50?s developed cancer, within two years he died.

If you are sick or in need and want help from JWs, it helps to be either related to the right people or be in the right clique. Assistance is privately given to the "right" people. Everybody else is S.O.L. There is an unfeeling, ruthless attitude towards everybody else. LHG

The reason behind shunning
by JH inwhen you think about it, when the elders disfellowship and then shun a person, it's to make an impact on the active ones still going to the meetings, rather than the df'd one.. they elders couldn't care less about the one who has been disfellowshipped.
that person is dead to their eyes.. the reason they make this so terrible, is a warning to the ones still active, not to try this.. some kind of blackmail, intended to the active ones.. .

JWs don't just shun somebody who is disfellowshipped, they also selectively "shun" persons who they don't approve of for some particular reason. The shunning is just to a lesser degree than if the person were actually disfellowshipped. Some years ago I knew of a divorced sister struggling with children who was shunned and treated badly by the wonderful christians in her congregation because she was "seeing" a worldly man. It wasn't immorality but just friendship. Once they found out about this, they treated her like the plague and gave her the Scarlet Letter treatment. I also had a situation some years ago where somebody shunned me or tried to ignore me. I knew exactly why but I had no intention of feeding into the JW mentality of going up to them and asking why. Quite frankly, I didn't care. I just carried on as usual. If this is supposed to be about control, it didn't work on me. Who the hell do these egotistical morons think they are? JWs couldn't care less about your existence, just as long as you are following their ridiculous rules and regulations. LHG

Interesting what you said about some who get the meeting piped in over the phone and the new class of absentee witnesses.
These people are just learning what I knew long ago: it is more upbuilding to stay home.

Louisa:
Good post. I was an adult in mid-20s when I joined. I was never big on f.s. because I worked full time and refused to do housecleaning like certain others there in order to "pioneer" [rolls eyeballs] I hate that word pioneer! I definitely have perfectionist or negative tendencies and agree that the JW experience makes this worse and I am trying to overcome this. I guess you can say I was "screwy" when I came in but I was looking for "truth" and it all sounded so good.
Gordy:
Interesting about the doctor who said "not another one". This is definitely not a coincidence and not the first time I have heard this. There has to be a connection. I think it is a combination of the perfectionism combined with the constant guilt plus the lack of love and compassion and maybe even the images of destruction that can send certain individuals with mental health problems over the edge.

I never went on a Society trip but I went on my own trips.
Years ago when I went to England and did sightseeing, one of my stops was the British Museum. I was very impressed with everything I saw but especially the Egyptian exhibit. I was also awed by the gallery with the stone statues of the Assyrian or Babylonian empire, etc. I was alone in a room and it was quite spooky.
