  That’s what your grandfather got for extending generosity to JWs!!..Anybody who gives actual money to one of them should NEVER expect it back. Especially a stranger visiting 🤣. They probably said: ‘we hit the jackpot’.

  The story you told must’ve become so common because the religion worked a similar story into one of their magazine articles at some point as a cautionary tale not to give anything to somebody traveling who claims they are a JW.

  Of course, they don’t talk about deadbeats in your own congregation who are looking for money! They think this is normal and accepted.

  When I became aware of how negatively I was viewed because I had a full time job, I was determined never to give anybody there so much as the time of day.. My generosity was maybe taking somebody out to lunch or giving them gas money if they were my friend. Emphasis on Friend.

  The JW religion’s hateful policy against college/careers and the attitudes they engendered in the congregation have consequences even if they don’t think so!

  (My apologies to the OP not meaning to derail the thread of Outwardly Righteous people bucking for eldership)

  That’s because the Witnesses want everybody to let their guard down and accept everyone..meanwhile some there had an agenda and they are attracted to the religion because some people are pushovers.

  What I described above is how a would-be con artist acts around a new bunch of people so as to make themselves attractive as a potential ‘friend’ to the unsuspecting. Of course, sometimes it could indicate an emotionally needy person..you’d have to see.

  Generally speaking, when a con artist infiltrated a congregation people would be on to them inside of two years and they’d have to move on.

  This advice goes for in the congregation as well as outside..If you meet somebody like this an alarm should go off in your head. We’re not too old to fall for this. Tread carefully.

  Yes. Enough to make you nauseous. They were all bucking for eldership.

  The only other exception to that rule was if they were con artists. This could be women as well as men. I was suspicious when I saw too much outward display of ‘spirituality’ (if you want to call it that). Too many long comments, etc. After meetings and gatherings there was just a little too much personality, BS, humor or whatever.

  Of course, I’m not active in the religion anymore. But, if I see this anywhere, I’m on my guard.

  Yes. I also believe claims of being ‘spirit directed’ would add credibility. I guess the creator somehow communicates with somebody there. 🙄I would love to meet them and shake their hand for they are special indeed!

  When I was active in the religion I had visions of somebody in a trance. How else would the spirit direct anybody?

  If you look at it, every religion has their claims of miracles and supernatural occurrences..So, I figure the JW religion did something similar to give themselves a holy mystique and a bona fide religion.

  Without this divine holy smoke and mirrors, they’d just be another club.

  It too bad that the average Witness is unaware of Hayden Covington’s testimony all those years ago!

  I was shocked and angry when I read this for the first time when I began my ‘Fade’ from the JW religion. What fools they must take everyone for!..Sorry I didn’t know of it earlier because I would have wasted less time in this vacuum of a religion.

  i have known many elders who were much more into the idea of being an elder and getting all the old ladies to tell them what wonderful talks they give and the power then really being a believer.

  i had one elder tell me that when he became an elder he was on top dog on top of the heap.

  i knew some who were really all about the religion and following the cult.

  In looking at all the answers here, I would have to conclude that a well-liked, fair or unbiased elder, not in love with his title 🙄 is in the minority in the JW religion.

  In fact, I really believe that because of how things are set up in the religion (organization) - it would be unlikely for such a person to exist for very long in that position.

  Two kingdom halls up for sale in our area

  driving by a kh yesterday we saw a for sale sign in front of the building.

  it's on a beautiful piece of property off a main road outside the city limits.

  the building can be no more than 10 years old and is very beautiful.

  No, I don’t think the people all moved away or died either. They left the Witness religion:..either walk-aways, fade-aways, DFd or DAd.

  It’s no surprise that all these kingdom halls everywhere are being sold. They are not needed anymore..Their membership is shrinking - not to mention $ being needed for those CSA lawsuits in the news.

  Where else but in the Witness religion could you have a guy who has no status in the REAL world..elevated to feel important (or at least important in the little fishbowl he’s in)?

  This is not to say that there haven’t been elders here and there who were really caring or tried. But, unfortunately most in later years I was in the religion were company men. I pretty much stayed away from them..not even greeting some of them. They were nothing more than fault finders who would ask for favors. My answer was always No.

  The Motive of the Governing Body

  however, i found some old emails from ray franz that promoted me to write an article that answers a question i regularly receive.

  it is in regards to the motive of governing body members.

  Yes..They think because people are supposedly home in the lockdown they should be available almost 24/7 on Zoom. I mean, after all, what else does anybody have to do? 🙄

  An older poster on Reddit is fed up and watches his wife getting dressed up (to sit in her living room) for all the meetings while they can see into THEIR home..He says it’s about five hours a week(?).. When pressed by an elder why he isn’t participating on Zoom, he told the guy to back off otherwise he’d be jeopardizing their friendship.

  So, the religion is using this crisis to ramp up their intrusiveness and corner everybody.

  VIDIOT:

  Yes, it won’t make fading easy. But, I think they are going to make people so angry this might be the last straw! Also, instead of one individual leaving - maybe a whole family might stop.

  Again, thanks for sharing your experience being at bethel sitting with governing body members and seeing their frame of mind and what makes them tick.

  I also think you are right about them (those older guys) probably knowing they screwed up and were supposedly worried about stumbling their followers, etc.. I wonder what they were thinking the reaction would be when they published that 1995 Generation teaching?..This was the last straw for me. I knew it was over.

  Nowadays, from what I have read and seen with videos..I get a more arrogant ‘sacred cow/unaccountable and you-better-obey’ vibe coming from the whole thing. Whatever. I’m just glad I got Out years ago and not still sitting there like a sucker.
