Finding a mate

so here i am 44 yr old divorced and free to remarry jw sister....first time single since i was 19. but guess what no single brothers in my area.

i’ve tried those stupid jw dating sites and still no luck.

oh yes there are tons of single brothers, but guess what...they all expect a hot barbie to come running into their life.

No, you would not be disfellowshipped for dating a non-believer..but you would be ostracized like the poster FUNKY explained.

You would be treated in a way like somebody who had a full-time job like I did. Probably it would be worse because there is the possibility you are going to commit immorality at any moment 🙄.

As was explained, you wouldn’t be invited anywhere and the most you would get would be superficial ‘niceties’.. They would be ‘angry’ because you did not follow their advice to drop this guy ‘like a bag of hot lava’. So to ‘punish you’ you must be shunned.

It is true that you would be the perpetual outsider. The JW religion does have class systems within it. I had hardly any friends there and I’m really glad I left years ago. Please reread all these comments and think long and hard about everything!

Has Anyone Gotten Disfellowshipped Here and For What??

sex issues seem to be the number one reason but apostasy is right up there too.

even if you weren’t disfellowshipped , do you know why some people you know were disfellowshipped?

No, I was never disfellowshipped but my observation was that sexual offenses were at the top of the list as a reason for being DFd.

Since times have changed and the religion is dwindling - not to mention Covid - there are probably fewer people being DFd. There are fewer people there to start with. I also think there are fewer people confessing their ‘sins’.🙄

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think in decades past when the religion was booming, they were more likely to get on somebody’s case. Maybe it’s still like that here and there....But I have to laugh if they are so eager to kick anybody out. I think these people are less likely to come back than in years past before the internet.

Now they can ‘lord it over’ the empty seats.

The Worst doctrine of JWs- Ressurection and Paradise

besides the facts that one needs to take numerous verses from the ot and nt and smash them together to make this theology (which works out to a modern day zorastriaism) the whole concept is realy horrific.. first it teachs that your life is worthless and should be exploited until the next one in paradise/or heaven.

second it teachs that you dead loved ones are still around either in heaven or jeblooper's memory.

so don't greive.

I totally agree with all of your post. When I began my ‘Fade’ from the JW religion about twenty years ago, I purged my mind of this teaching of resurrection/paradise earth which I felt was a cruel trick to play on my mind!

TRUTHBKNOWN:

I also agree with your assessment of what would REALLY happen after any global holocaust or ‘Armageddon’.. It would no doubt be just as you described and the reality would be ugly: instead of orderliness of well-dressed brothers directing people in a pleasant environment, you would have—probably chaos, infighting, dead bodies, no infrastructure, probably no communication, dirty smelly ragged and even sick survivors toiling at a never-ending work, possibly being ordered around by whoever...the list goes on.

Anybody with thoughts of living in a clean air-conditioned mansion, eating fruit platters with smiling people depicted in artwork in the publications is going to have a LONG wait. Maybe it’ll happen in the millennium after THAT...

I think the JW belief is a lot like Christendom where they have a ‘hereafter’ - except JWs hereafter is supposedly on the earth.

I never felt the pickings in the JW religion were good for women. The ratio is probably more than twice as many women than men. There are good looking women there who can’t find anybody - and they will not settle for a ‘crazy’. It was my observation that all the good men were taken and what was left over I was not interested in. As you observed, many of the men there are deluded and are looking for as you say ‘a barbie’. What’s worse is there is a trend for older guys (fortyish) looking for a teenage girl.

Some women prefer to look outside the religion since it appears to be a lost cause. I wish you luck.

Your humor just about nailed it and I could almost see this as a literal scenario happening somewhere - sad to say.. I thought the exact same thing when I saw the words “wound care”.

This is, unfortunately, what it has come to in the JW religion with these people who preferred to be in the full time ministry No Matter What - and wouldn’t be caught dead having a secular job with benefits.

I came in after 1975 and there was really no talk about it except a brief remark about people who were stumbled because ‘they were serving for a date’.

I’m glad that you saved for your retirement and I assume you didn’t advertise it. It’s good that you did not succumb to the ‘Ye of little faith’ thing. Me neither. When I saw the older people in the halls collecting THEIR pensions, I knew.

Everybody is strangely silent about this: that older generation of JWs (who would be late 80s-early 90s) worked and saved for Retirement. But, yet poverty was preached to Baby Boomers like myself who were young in the 1970s. I’m just glad I never fell for this stupidity.

How do you personally deal with your still in family JWS ?

for myself i just try to avoid them intentionally maybe see them once every couple of years on average.

they used to be easy going but over the last 10 years or so they got more cult like and distant and i'm really not bothered by that, maybe a bit.

they stick to their own or other members like they are their family so, its makes it unattractive for myself to connect and reach out to them anymore.

DESIROUS OF CHANGE:

Many people on the forum have Witness relatives who have experienced family who were once friendly and are now stand-offish. This must be a sad thing to behold and I am so glad I had no family in that religion.

The problem I see with all these shunner Witnesses is that they are on their high-horse with over-confidence and are talked into believing they can disrespect blood relatives..So sad...What happens though when they get elderly?...Do ANY of these idiots imagine they are going to ask for as$istance from family members they have ostracized for decades??

I’d tell them to track down their spiritual friends for help. Maybe some of those great ladies are still around. You know: the older esteemed sisters who hosted those special pioneer dinners and get togethers (that I was never invited to). Good luck tracking these people down for help.

Hi OVERRATED:

Thanks...I wasn’t interested in opinions of seniors with a cushy life collecting a pension because THEY already worked.

I came into the religion at a bad time - late ‘70s. The ‘Stepford Wives’ type women there looked at me strangely because I worked.

I had to support myself plain and simple. There were also no desirable marriage prospects!..I was raised Catholic - and one thing so-called ‘worldly’ people know is that everybody gets old and you need to think about retirement. As time went on I think some younger JWs realized they needed to do something.

I’m glad I looked out for my own interest because people who DIDN’T are up that famous creek without a paddle.

So, your relatives have gotten more cult-like and distant over the last decade or so?

I wonder though if they would come looking for you if they needed money or anything el$e? Some ex-JWs have this experience. Not having Witness relatives I’m not faced with this, but I’d never tolerate ‘shunners’ asking for money.

HI PETRA,

Thanks. You don’t know how lucky you are that you got out as a kid. You have fewer bad memories than others.

I know a lot of older people in the religion suffered back then and sadly are suffering now because they were talked into not preparing for Retirement... I ‘suffered’ back then in the sense that I was not ‘approved’ because I wouldn’t quit my full time job to do the full time ministry and I wasn’t invited much.

No regrets. I had to look out for myself. But, I also got grief every now and then over my figure and was expected to ‘try harder’ and dress dowdier, etc. SO, I was THAT single working woman who had a nice figure and that bothered some people. Because of the spiteful attitude towards me over my job and my appearance, I made sure I was Not available to do favors for the Users. This was No ‘brotherhood’ as far as I was concerned and I wouldn’t give these people the time of day.

Now, they have the audacity to imagine that people still there are going to give $$ and support people who never wanted to work and had the balls to criticize people such as myself who DID work.

Glad I’m not there because I’d never tolerate these pathetic people who never learned to live in REALITY coming near me looking for anything!
