That’s just it. The religion itself is NOT able to deliver these promises and never has been. They were promising everybody that somebody else, namely God, is going to do these things.

Of course, they made it sound like they had a direct pipeline to God. Then in recent years they finally admitted they are not inspired.

So, now what you have are many older JWs who sacrificed (unnecessarily) for many years and are tired of waiting. But, the religion cannot make this ‘paradise’ happen. They just whet everybody’s appetite with tantalizing artwork and speculation, in my opinion.

No, it is not your imagination especially lately. There are some angry older JWs because the pandemic wasn’t the End they’d hoped for. Now they have to carry on in spite of age and inadequate (or no) preparation for retirement. They were supposed to be in the promised ‘New System’ by now.

An acquaintance was sounding like the wicked witch saying ‘they were warned’! In truth, though, if it were a Real warning work they’d be using the media and billboards, etc.

In general, I believe a few teachings of the JWs leads people to believe they can do and be forgiven for just about anything: the Adamic death thing which supposedly wipes the slate clean; the forgive your ‘brother’ and not sue; some pioneers imagining people are supposed to tolerate them; and the few very old timers who imagine because they knew some ‘important’ people in the old days it gives them a ‘pass’.. These beliefs and mindsets are responsible for some of the arrogant attitudes I remember seeing and partly why I wanted no dealings with people there.

ironic justice is the best revenge.” the inventor of the brazen bull, one if the most heinous torture devices in history was tricked to go inside of it and died of the torture he created.. probably one of the greatest movies ever made features revenge as its theme: once upon a time in the west.

sadly in this movie the main character doesn’t rely on ironic justice happening by god or chance.

I am assuming this thread is about angry people’s attitudes towards the religion.

I am Out many years. Since I wasn’t raised a JW, it was easier for me to transition back into normal life. I also hung onto my secular job until retirement. Other people had and are having a worse time - especially older people who heeded bad advice to not get a career or bother planning for retirement.. What a predicament.

I imagine there must be countless needy people wishing for justice for time wasted in ‘full time ministry’ decades ago when they were young that could have been better spent in a career that paid for their then future (which is here now)!

Honest Hearted Ones

there are certain wt terms that sound biblical but really just puff up the pride.

hundreds of times the wt has used the term honest-hearted in their literature.

it sounds biblical, if for no other reason because we hear it so often in jw circles.

questions for those who were once elders

the former elder who was being interviewed mentioned a couple of things i noted.

i would like to know what your reactions were at the time you learned what i am going to relate if you had the same or kindred experience.

I tend to agree with you there. Their advice was almost never for the benefit of the person seeking it.

What I had noticed in the years prior to my ‘Fade’ (and which annoyed me) was that the religion seemed to be ‘elevating’ the perception they wanted the rank & file to have of the elders.

A good deed? You mean like food pantries and soup kitchens and other such things to help the needy? I have heard other churches in Christendom have these charitable services.

But, nobody should hold their breath waiting for the JW religion to have any of these things..I would be shocked if it ever happened. It’s ironic really since many of their followers are needy because they were told by the religion they didn’t need careers or retirement planning because ‘Armageddon’ would be here. They were told it would be better to spend their time in the full time ministry. 🙄

I’m glad your grandparents weren’t JWs and encouraged you to get an education. I’m grateful my non-JW family also encouraged college.

I never got any anti-college/anti-career vibes from anybody in my life until I set foot in the Witness religion. But, thankfully, I never took anything they said seriously and let their foolish talk go in one ear and out the other! I did not follow in the footsteps of other women in the religion and very glad today I did not.

I’m glad you got your education though.

Yes, it certainly appears as you say that JWs ‘seem to glorify ignorance as if it is some sort of goal to attain’.. I think they want people there who are acceptably ignorant who will never complain or speak up about anything.

As far as multi-generational JWs being intimidated into not getting college for themselves or their children by elders and other busybodies, I might understand this a generation ago before the computer age. But today? When you talk about ‘avoiding conflict’ and ‘keeping the peace’, no offense but this sounds cowardly and makes a man in the religion not the master of his OWN household. It sounds like somebody else is the master in HIS home (and maybe even bedroom). Sounds unmanly and like he has no balls either.

I understand that to somebody like myself not raised in the JW religion this mentality is outrageous and unacceptable. The rest of the world would feel the same way.

It’s hard to believe that even at this LATE date that some JWs are still listening to stupid advice to NOT get college or some higher education.

I really don’t have any respect or regard for any adult there who denies their intelligent child a college education. Anybody who thinks idiot ‘privileges’ and opinions of elders means anything is a fool with sh#t for brains…I realize some kids are piss-poor students and not college material. But, if the child gets decent grades there is no excuse.
